@gangerollo He was not trying 2 be him. Mike Barrett AKA Shakin Stevens is a massive fan of Eddie and he was doing a tribute. He even turned down the part of Eddie in the movie.
@rockabeatz Ok, that movie. And it was a very bad choice having B Setzer. What do the producers/directors think with? The B****S? I mean Brian Setzer is Brian Setzer and that makes it impossible to imagine he being Eddie Cochran in that movie if you fullow my drift. Of course they should have taken some young unknown actor that resembled of Eddie. If that actor can sing or play guitar is of no interest as miming can be done very realistic. Theguy from the Levi's ad from the '80s was perfect
@gangerollo Personally I love Brian Setzer and his band The Stray Cats. But everyone has rights to a opinion, I saw someone do Eddie Cochran in Devon when I was 19, I am now 30 and the bloke was absolutely brilliant. He was the spit of him and the voice was spot on, but the film came out years before. But he would of been a great choice in the Movie x
@rockabeatz Okay, don't get me wrong. I also really like Brian Setzer & The Stray Cats and almost anything Brian have done since that time. He is a great guitarist, have presence and are a great performer and make excellent records BUT he is Brian so I meant it's bordering to banana stupidity pretending him in the movie "La Bamba" acting as Ed. What you wrote about that guy you saw in Devon, that is what I mean.
@gangerollo Yeah I did notice that u liked them when I checked your page out. Some of the stuff you got on there is great. I really enjoyed watching the videos. Keep on rocking ha ha x
Yeah, checked out Shakin' Stevens on Wikipedia. Discovered and made a British star by Jack Good, who had an eye for rock talent. The Cochran connection is real here: Eddie's first TV appearances in the UK were on Jack Goods "Boy Meets Girl" . Also had a show called "Oh Boy", which was resurrected in the 80's. Stevens is performing on "Oh Boy" here!
I do a thing on my Myspace / Facebook each day "This Day In Rock & Roll History" I noticed his B-Day is coming up in about a week so came looking for this vid to post.I vcr taped it in the 80's BUT I thought the name of the show was Lets Rock.(first time I saw Matchbox too was on it) Is this the same show? How many were done?I only saw one. Stevens & Matchbox and a Jerry Lee impersonater with one lazy eye was on TO FUNNY And I just HAD to watch the comic clip with the guy in the yellow Ted suit.
I'm not 100% certain the show is "Oh Boy", but am assuming so because the announcer says "Oh Boy, Jump for Joy with Shakin' Stevens!" I never saw any of these shows myself, I got my information from "Don't Forget me, the Eddie Cochran Story" by Darrel Higham and Julie Mundy.
Summertime Blues - written by Eddie Cochran and Jerry capehaart, same with C'mon Everybody. Then we got Somethin' Else (same composers i think) Twenty Flight Rock which was in the Girl Can't help it! He co wrote that with Nelda Fairchild allegedly.
RE: your comment about 20 Flight Rock, Shakin' Stevens medley. Eddie didn't co-write 20 Flight..it was written by a staff writer at American Music named Nelda Bingo. Eddie chose this tune to perform in the movie "The Girl Can't Help It", and it became a Cochran classic. Eddie is lsted as writer or co-writer on the credits, but the writer's royalties all went to Nelda.
Handshake deal. She used the "pen name" Ned Fairchid on the credits!
