I found this video because today, while snorkeling off the coast of Isla Mujeres, Mexico, I swam over a stingray that was larger in diameter than I am tall (i'm 6'2"). I was blown away. If it was mad enough, it could have easily killed me. It was massive. I estimated the lengthy by my body being over it. With the tail, it was easily longer than 14 feet. Absolutely crazy. No camera of course, but at least I didn't kill the thing to prove I saw it. :) Beautiful creature.

@Xervania Growing up on the Gulf Coast of the USA, I can say that these animals, while admittedly beautiful, are in NO way extinct. Rays are some of the most plentiful & hearty fish in almost any part of the world. And, they make a great food source that is usually ignored when caught by sport fishermen. I am eating ray wings tonight!

The vast majority of the animals in that slideshow were released thats why they had teams of people holding them and they were not just hauled up on land. Scientists study them by holding them like that and taking samples and stuff then letting them go.
