People like to say how wrestling is fake, but this match was better than many MMA fights. On the other hand, Inoki is human. When someone starts clubbing you with a close fist to the skull you gonna lose your cool. Maybe if Great Antonio was a professional he would not have been schooled by Inoki.
sooooooooooooo awkward. I hate when wrestlers try and disclipline others in the middle of a match for whatever reason. the other person is still half selling. its so odd
So people are hating on Inoki for putting down a dangerous man? Seriously, The Great Antonio would have probably killed Inoki with how things were going if Inoki didn't put the fat bastard. And for the dumbasses saying it was low for Inoki to keep kicking the guy, you obviously never been in a real fight. If I was taking down a large strong and dangerous man like Antonio, I would kick the shit out of him until he wasn't able to fight just the same as Inoki.
Wow, Inoki is such a man... Sure, the other dude has no clue what he's doing, but those face slaps and kicking a guy while he's down is pretty bitch like.
I understand that, and I'm all for a guy stiffing someone back, if he's doing it for no reason. But come on, after he's already unconscious, Inoki continues to kick the dude in the head. That's a bitch move. Obviously "The Great Antonio" has no clue what he's doing and shouldn't even be in the ring, but still.
The Great Antonio was being a dipshit but that seemed like a good deal of over reaction. He could have stopped after he palm smacked the shit out of him and had him down, the repeated head stomping after he's down and out makes him the bigger bully. Then again when in the heat of the moment, i don't know if I'd have reacted any better if someone had been trying to take advantage of me.
Too weak to win? Then grab the opponent by the ankles so that he loses his balance and falls down, then, quickly, kick him in the head, as hard as you can, again and again. I lost a lot of respect for Inoki watching this match.
Wrestling is fake and bullshit! These assholes can't be compared with professional boxers. Antonio was a pussy, who stayed on the floor kicking Ali's legs.
@MegaOlly17 Except Ali participated in a wrestling match with Inoki and before that with Gorilla Monsoon. So STFU and learn history, son.
"Clay built a reputation by correctly predicting the round in which he would "finish" several opponents, and by boasting before his triumphs.[12] Clay admitted he adopted the latter practice from "Gorgeous" George Wagner, a popular professional wrestling champion in the Los Angeles area who drew thousands of fans."
Seems like the match was going as planned (shitty as that plan may be) then Antonio just pounds the living fuck out of Inoki's head/neck/back at about 4:35, and even though he's a great big fat fuck he WAS strong and could have killed a man with the right strike. I don't blame Inoki for schooling the shit out of him after that.
This match is awesome. When Inoki finally has enough of GA's antics, he snaps and puts him down on his face easily. The last straw is GA walloping Inoki 3 times on the back of his neck and head with a closed fist. That's extremely dangerous especially considering GA's strength. He really was asking for it and Inoki was in the right for tearing him to pieces. GA could have caused a brain or neck injury with those shots.
Great Antonio was a freakshow attraction. I'm guessing that's why Inoki booked him. Being a Westerner probably also added to the attraction. I don't buy the Great Antonio "looks not all there" part. He was clearly sane enough to sign a contract, negotiate a price, get a visa and board a flight to Japan, and get to the arena and gear up. He may have been nutty, but clearly knew he was going off script.
I kinda feel bad for Antonio. The poor slob didn't know what he was doing in there and was wearing rain boots for petes sake. Looks like he was wearing pajama bottoms with a strap to hold them up.
No surprise here, the Great Antonio was notorious for putting himself over, be it in wrestling or with his "feats of strength": stopping traffic to pull buses with his hair etc...he had to prove he was "the strongest man in the world" at all costs. Looks like Mr Inoki didn't appreciate that.
What I have to wonder though, is if this wasn't intentionally booked to be like this, Who on earth would book this unprofessional tub of lard on their wrestling card in the first place?
Oh, wait, Inoki was booking, I think. Maybe there was legit heat or Not-So-Great Antonio was underpaid or something--who knows.
I think I understand why he got even more pissed off after he slapped him... He was still trying to no-sell, even when Inoki slapped him in the face, turning away and going "heyhey!" as if he couldn't feel it, when he was clearly feeling it...
So let me guess as to what happened: "Ali" got a little too happy with the hits, and it looked like after the second one, Inoki's fist and jaw clenched up, and he'd hit him too hard, then the guy was happy with another hit or two, and Inoki went to block it and then slapped him in the face, told him "come on, then!" and then the rest was for real? It didn't look like "Ali" was going after him for real after the face slaps, though... Was the match SUPPOSED to be real, or was it INTENDED as fake?
its the nature of the wrestling business man. he obviously wasnt selling anything inoki was doing, and was a slob in the rest of his work. they do hit the back with forearms hard enough to make a noise, but his last two were sloppy and hit the back of inokis head hard. at that point, you gotta stiff the guy back or else he'll never learn. guarentee you the rest of the locker room said he got what he deserved
@mmabuff101 how lol? he was fake wrasslin not fist fighting the fat guy didnt know he was about 2 get actually hit 10 times.. he was using the palms 2 the back of the neck like they do n wrasslin
@jamiegee123 He WOULD have kicked the shit out of ali had it not been for the rule change saying that inoki could not use any type of grappling, which is his specialty, and could only throw a kick if he was down on one knee,so it was like 30 mins or so of leg kicks from up-down position with inoki on his back the whole time because hes not going to try to throw hand with ali
@420Juggalo1 Wow didnt know about that i just though Ali didnt want to go to the ground with him lmao , ali reall did show heart once again in that match he got leg kicked so bad , and know boxer was ready for that at that time !
@jamiegee123 yea,mma was just being pioneered at that peroid of time, and you're right,no boxer would expect it because boxers arent trained to defend their legs at all,so i imagine inokis leg kicks were pretty hard on him
The Great Antonio was also in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1952 by pulling a 433-tonne train 19.8 meters. Check out his bio, you'd be surprised how this guy was actually semi famous, and an eccentric.
Great Antonio was actually one of the Canada's strongest men back in the 60's, and ran a minor wrestling stable in Canada as well. He was known for pulling trucks with a collar around his neck and pulling them for long distances. In the end, he suffered from neurological disorders and was broke, homeless and eventually passed on. This was when he was losing it upstairs, and really wasn't his fault for doing what he did to Inoki.
For those not knowing, Great Antonio was actually a well-known hobo in Montreal. He had a "deal" with a Tim Hortons, they gave him food in exchange for the "fame" he brought.
Inoki was like forget this by 4 something and started to hit him back. Antonio was hitting him for real around 4:35, those back chops aren't suppose to sound like that.
Antonio didn't sell that whip earlier. What was Antonio's problem was he angry at something before this match?
after seeing the whole fight , i can see why Inoki did what he did?... the fat guy wasn't working with him (fat dude looks drunk) and went after Inoki with sum real punches on his back... i take my previous comment back... he deserved to get his ass whooped by Inoki.
Ahhhh i've heard of this in Japan there are Wrestling promotion's that have Unscripted matches Most of the wrestler's had minor Martial Arts backgrounds.
The only hand strikes allowed are open handed strikes as they do less damage.
@MrFrikenBuffet oh yeah... I meant the Great Antonio. I usually refer to Antonio Inoki as Inoki. Inoki isn't mentally ill, he's just got Yakuza up the ying-yang.
Honestly, who booked this match? "Great Antonio" obviously had absolutely zero ability to work a pro-wrestling match. Let alone put him in the ring with Inuki, of all people.
I don't know much about Antonio Inoki, but after watching him kick the ever loving shit out of Zach Galifianakis, I think I just became a fan of his work!
@kellyfortune Actually the part where he gets kicked in the head is real its called a shoot those were actual kicks the face. The fat guy wasn't selling Inoki's attacks so Inoki beat the shit out of him.
I find it amazing that Inoki puts up with the no-selling, the terrible wrestling skills, and two stiff shots. After the third it's 'knock it off asshole", and after the fourth stiff shot he's like "Alright fuck you!" Had this been Bob Holly he would have started the beating at the first no-sell at the latest and when the fat sack of crap stepped through the ropes at the earliest.
Side note Great Antonio was once a strongman and held official records for feats of strength.
@jannecechmanek Great Antonio would have squashed Bob Holly like a bug. Bob Holly is just a bully not a legit tough guy and he picks on people he knows he can beat. So yes, Great Antonio would've squashed Bob Holly like a bug. They would have to had scraped Bob holly up with a spatula. Antonio Inoki is over 100 times tougher than that bully Bob Holly. There are lots of wrestlers who can squash Bob Holly like a bug.
This is so disrespectful. Not that Inoki knocked him out, but that a guy with such feeble wrestling skills is in the ring with one of the all time greats. The guy counldn't work for sh!t. Inoki had to knock him out to save face in front of the people.
@haugaard You don't know what a shoot is, do you? Great Antonio was no selling and stiffing, so Antonio fucks him up. Everything you just saw in that video is very real.
Although we all know pro wrestling as a general rule is staged (seriously, stop posting "Its fake" everywhere. WE KNOW.) this is clearly a shoot, I dont get how people argue otherwise.
On December 8, 1977,( Great Antonino) he lost a notorious match against Antonio Inoki.[4] The match took a turn for the worse when Barichievich(Great Antonio) inexplicably began to no-sell Inoki's attacks and then attack Inoki, causing Inoki to shoot on Barichievich, legitimately palm striking, kicking, then finally stomping him into a bloody mess.
Ha! I think it got serious. The heavier wrestler was hitting Inoki with a few hard shots behind the head. When Inoki got up, he really hit him back. Those kicks in the face were real. I did not see the "play" movements!
in the words of Rick James that match was "Cold Blooded."

hehe. fake wrestling is funny :)
kellyfortune 9 months ago
@kellyfortune Actually the part where he gets kicked in the head is real its called a shoot those were actual kicks the face. The fat guy wasn't selling Inoki's attacks so Inoki beat the shit out of him.
dewilder11 9 months ago
@dewilder11 It wasn't just that he was no-selling. He also fired off 4 legit shots to Inoki before he finally dropped the hammer and kicked his ass.
eltimbo42 9 months ago
@eltimbo42 Yeah, those hits to Inoki's back are def. real. I think they both were pissed off at that point. Bad move on the fat guys part.

una de las peores peleas de uno de los mas grandes de todos los tiempos.....Inoki no le hacia el trabajo a nadie, no le gustaba perder.....
NoHayFianza 9 months ago
I find it amazing that Inoki puts up with the no-selling, the terrible wrestling skills, and two stiff shots. After the third it's 'knock it off asshole", and after the fourth stiff shot he's like "Alright fuck you!" Had this been Bob Holly he would have started the beating at the first no-sell at the latest and when the fat sack of crap stepped through the ropes at the earliest.
Side note Great Antonio was once a strongman and held official records for feats of strength.
jannecechmanek 9 months ago 2
@jannecechmanek Great Antonio would have squashed Bob Holly like a bug. Bob Holly is just a bully not a legit tough guy and he picks on people he knows he can beat. So yes, Great Antonio would've squashed Bob Holly like a bug. They would have to had scraped Bob holly up with a spatula. Antonio Inoki is over 100 times tougher than that bully Bob Holly. There are lots of wrestlers who can squash Bob Holly like a bug.
niteholler 9 months ago
@niteholler Counter-point: Great Antonio is a fat sack of crap.
jannecechmanek 9 months ago
@jannecechmanek who could sit on Bob Holly and squash him flat as a pancake. They would have to scrape Bob Holly up with a spatula.

don't fuck with Antonio Inoki
Daffanka 10 months ago
This is so disrespectful. Not that Inoki knocked him out, but that a guy with such feeble wrestling skills is in the ring with one of the all time greats. The guy counldn't work for sh!t. Inoki had to knock him out to save face in front of the people.

You know it's not real, right?
haugaard 10 months ago
@haugaard You don't know what a shoot is, do you? Great Antonio was no selling and stiffing, so Antonio fucks him up. Everything you just saw in that video is very real.

Although we all know pro wrestling as a general rule is staged (seriously, stop posting "Its fake" everywhere. WE KNOW.) this is clearly a shoot, I dont get how people argue otherwise.

Inoki doesn't fuck around

On December 8, 1977,( Great Antonino) he lost a notorious match against Antonio Inoki.[4] The match took a turn for the worse when Barichievich(Great Antonio) inexplicably began to no-sell Inoki's attacks and then attack Inoki, causing Inoki to shoot on Barichievich, legitimately palm striking, kicking, then finally stomping him into a bloody mess.

kevinpetursson 11 months ago
Ha! I think it got serious. The heavier wrestler was hitting Inoki with a few hard shots behind the head. When Inoki got up, he really hit him back. Those kicks in the face were real. I did not see the "play" movements!

I totally understand why Inoki lost it. They are there to put on a show and the Great Antonio had his own agenda.
