Hi Jonathan - A viola? A man after my own heart! LOL I used to play viola but had to give it up because in order to get the really great "viola sound" I loved, I had to play a viola that was too big and it was killing my neck and shoulder. I have a violin now, as well as a mandolin. Yep - music and books fill my soul. Nature does, too. Thanks!
@JonathanBellows A wood burning stove is very doable! But consider making it some sort of a "rocket stove" variation. I am sure you could add in a metal coil and a little water re-circulator pump so you could both heat your house and your hot-water just using little scraps of wood and weeds you find outside. Rocket stoves are very efficient and very small. You could make a hot water tank (with removable insulation) into a drain-able thermal mass (for light weight transport.)
Beautiful job, Johnathan! I just love those little boat fireplaces! They are so cute. : ) I like the ceiling fan - that's a great addition. I plan on building a Fencl myself, although I plan to add to the length a little bit just to have a bit more room. I'm still torn about what to do with my piano and harpsichord; I may have to sell them and go with an electronic piano/keyboard which wouldn't take up so much room. I have to have books and music. The Christmas lights are pretty! Thanks!
I actually have a small 49-key keyboard that I keep in my tiny closet. I never really learned how to "play," but I do pick out a song now and then on it. I also have a viola and a mandola in the storage loft.
I'm in the middle of trying to plan my tiny house, so having a look inside yours gave me some ideas about things I could try in mine. Cool video. Thanks for sharing.
Nope, no experience, no training, just a bunch of power tools and a lot of time. I also bought the blueprints off of Jay at Tumbleweed Houses, so having that plan helped.
this is amazing! I'm glad more people are opening up to this kind of concept. how much did everything cost you? (water system, solar panels, etc.) and how are you liking/adjusting to your tiny home?
@funkgoosey92 I've been saving every single receipt related to this project and putting it into a spreadsheet. Right now I'm at about the $17k mark - that includes the brand new trailer, all appliances, the solar panels, and everything. As for adjusting, I actually quite enjoy the place. I've found that I can be content with much less than I thought, and the space feels more appropriate each day.
It's very nice! I like the bench in the living room and the potty in the back...where'd you get your round potty? I'd like something like that for my tiny house to be. Also, this looks to me too small to be a Fencl..sure it's not a WeeBee?
A side note..I am feeling a wee bit dizzy after watching your tour (yeah, I know, everybody's a critic, right?..sorry)
But I love that you are using DC for your lights and am glad to see a ceiling fan installed in a tiny home
The toilet is actually a sawdust toilet, so I was able to build it myself. I honestly haven't seen a round one anywhere before - one of the reasons why I built my own.
And yes, it's a Fencl. I bought the plans and everything. Granted, I didn't STICK to the plans, but the 18' trailer is the same.
And the fireplace works great. I'm still working on things, though, so I don't leave it burning at night when I'm sleeping - hence the space heater.
It's not finished yet, but the idea is to be able to live in it. I'm staying in it as much as I can right now, though, and essentially only use the "big house" for showering. Once the shower is done in the tiny house, I should be all set.

replace the little fireplace with a woodburning regular one and I'd LOVE to live in their.
apart from that, it looks absolutely amazing.

Thanks! You know, I wonder what a tiny woodburning stove in here would look and feel like. Worth thinking about!

I agree! Music and books are important!

Great job on your house! Hey I'm curious--what is the width of the front door? It looks like it is slightly narrower than a standard front door.

@barisax25
Thanks! Both the front door and the bathroom door are 24 inches wide.

Damn cute house. Do you actually live in there or is this some sort of a vacation home?
