@Buondelmonte123 You must be confusing tiaras. Diana received the Cambridge Lovers Knot tiara, not the Vladimir Tiara (Diamond and Pearl or Emerald). The Duchess of Cornwall never wore the two tiaras mentioned previously but she wore the Durbar and Greville tiaras.
@Mesalonika His main physician Lord Dawson of Penn's private diary, unearthed after his death, reveals that he hastened the King's end by giving him a lethal injection of cocaine and morphine, both to prevent further strain on the family and so that the King's death at 11:55 pm could be announced in the morning edition of The Times newspaper rather than "less appropriate ... evening journals". That's the sad thruth.
I remember when I was 6 Queen Mary died and there was a picture of her in the newspaper wearing a coat and hat. I could comprehend why she was not wearing a crown because my fairy story books had pictures of queens wearing a crown.Beautiful video by the way. Oh at 65 I now realise kings and queens do not wear crowns every day.
Churchill was right about her: she was a queen and she acted like a queen. She is my favorite of all the consorts/regnants as she was smart, learned, and knew what duty meant. And she wasn't a cold, unfeeling person, as movie makers and some historians have painted her to be. She was just aware of her position at all times.
She was pragmatic, down to earth and loyal to her friends and family. She was a fond parent and grandparent within the confines of her day and status. Her sense of duty and the fact that she was rather shy may have made her seem a little stiff to outsiders. She and her husband had a remarkably loving marriage which was probably a tribute to her patience and common sense. Better things should be said of this beautiful and intelligent woman
Beautiful video. The length of the Marathon race 42, 195 was because of her. The Olympics took place in London in 1908. She sat in the stadium in the place where she wanted the Marathon run should end, so she could see it perfectly. Originally the length of the Marathon was exactly 40 kilometres. So this is the reason for the extra 2.195 metres.
Queen Mary is so underrated and almost forgotten, but yet was such a superb and fabulous woman! My favourite royal of all time. Thank you so much for making this video!! :)
Also, ( DAMN the character count ) Thank you for honestly reporting King George V's euthanasia.
And... quite right to include her superb jewelry collection - the greatest any Queen of England has ever assembled. It breaks my heart to see her Durbar Diadem now worn as a tiara ( without the Cambridge emeralds ) by Camilla, Princess of Wales.
You are a TREASURE. Thank you for your SUBLIME videos.
Superb as always. Her father, Prince Franz, was rendered ineligible as King of Württemberg, by the morganatic marriage of his parents. Queen Victoria wisely brushed away the taint of morganatic blood for the spouses of her heirs. ( She did this with the Battenbergs as well.)
Her mother, daughter of the Duke of Cambridge, was quite popular in her day- mainly because she showed herself in public when Queen Victoria would not. She was then called "The People's Princess" a name familiar today.
What a lovely video. Beautiful! I remember seeing Queen Mary in the years before she died, when she was quite old. I never had realised just how beautiful she was when she was younger. That's what makes all these types of videos so facinating I guess. You do the work and we reap the benefits. Many thanks!
The same face over and over again in the Royal females.
