Unfortunately I don't drive this truck anymore and I'm not sure were it is these days. I can tell you though that I loved driving it. It was a lot of fun. It sounded pretty good too, had a nice deep down growl!
Ever tried it with a straight pipe, you would LOVE it!
I grew up with these! dad's excav. co... I learned to drive a 1971 DM-600 with nat. asp "thermodyne" w/ a "quadraplex" 20 sp. two sticker! My favourite: the last batch bef ret: 1979 DM-600 metal front; 300 Maxidyne, 6 sp Maxitorque, 44k fr axle54K rears; straight pipe by passenger window... beautiful music, not too loud due to turbo, I would LOVE to hear that splendid music again, perhaps you gents "down under" could help?
Over here in Aussie we don't have U or DM models with the offset cab although Mack Australia has built a few 'specials' over the years for unique jobs.
cool, i still to this day have never drivin a u model, here in chicago the numbers are starting to fall, the only ones i know of are some roll off dumpster trucks.
that sounds like the Mack used in madmax 2

Ya it does! The straight pipe whistle does annoy some people who drive the truck all day. The deep sound is good then.

What do you think is better the V8s or the I6s.
Xobunoli 3 years ago
They're both good but I think the 6s have probably been more reliable over the years.
