  • Man i wish they made standard scale basses with that type of body

  • kala u bass all the way

  • @3234718 have you played both? i bought a kala u bass and i dont enjoy how soft you have to hit the strings. when i play electric i normally play sort of hard, but i cant do that with the kala u bass and its weird for me. do you like the way the u bass playes better?

  • @erasermcfleafly Yes. The ashbury uses silcone strings and the kala uses polyurethane; slightly different. You can't play sort of hard at all on it. You really have to finess the strings and you get really good tones. I love it. I haven't put it down since I got it. Definately not for playing hard though

  • You seem to really play kinda heavily on the G string, isn't it supposed to be the weakest string on the planet or something? Seriously, I've red tons of reviews stating that this G string thing was the main issue of the instrument, but apparently it isn't so. That was keeping me away from buying one, but now that I've seen your vid, I'm reconsidering a possible purchase.

Actually the major problem seems to be the intonation when you step away from the 1st position. Maybe with some practice...

  • @mirzamarco

the spacing between notes is very small

tuff to find the right spots

  • @mirzamarco - I would not debate the idea that the silicone G string is the worst part of the instrument, but it's not because of playing it that it's a problem. Sitting in the case tuned to pitch, they can just self-destruct. Detuning the instrument when not playing it is a possible solution, but polyurethane strings is IMO a better solution. Bass Uke strings work out just fine. If you don't normally play fretless, intonation will be your biggest problem.

  • alright! rockin that leafs shirt :D

  • are you playing that james taylor song rock & roll is music at 1:06?

  • It's 2 bad Ass-Bury doesn't get rebranded as Gib$on - 'cuz then they could sell 'em 4 like $1,500 =D "WOO my GibKrap Ass-Bury has the finest sillicone rubber terroir available, + endorsements from a wide range of (insert famous pothead junkie boys here) 2 ensure it must in fact B the absolute finest disposable piece of poop available =))

  • @odst2514

    5 hundred

  • i find this bass only useful whyle being drunk off your ass and taking it to practice inside "unplugged" in your tourbus. this bass is bolth pointless and disturbing 9/10 times lol

  • the main designer of it was probly really high or really drunk when he thought of it. cool piece Dave!

  • they still make them

  • VERY INTERESTING, when did the y make em?

  • sounds cool

  • I played one of those once a long time ago. I mentioned to the guy at the store how it sounded like an upright, and he told me its supposed to sound like an upright, but without the size.

  • thats wacky pretty cool

  • I really want to try one of these.

  • that bass must have been the easyest re-fret you've ever done

  • It's... unique...

In my eyes it doesn't really have anything else going for it.

  • A friend of mine had one of these back in 88 or 89 or something when Guild first introduced them. He played it through his old SWR rig and the thing sounded like an old upright. Funny you posted this. I was just at L&M on Saturday picking up strings and saw they had some for these. Hadn't thought about these since forever.

Now...seeing Ashbory stuff twice in one Weekend. How long have you had this bass for?

  • @geetar4yerears

just lent to me by a friend

  • The neck is fretless, but it dosent sound like this.

    What strings are made from?

  • @omrix2

    silicone

  • You look like the new Ravi Shankar

  • probably a good travel guitar

  • I like this thing, definitely not a main instrument bass but i can see it come in handy for recording some really unique stuff.

  • Do I hear the beginning of "Gutter Cat" from Alice Cooper?

  • @Faz64

    yes I think so

  • Not suited for those ham hocks you call hands. Interesting sound though--it really has zero tonal character.

  • @BarneyFife00

you need hands of a 5 year old

  • I. Must. Have. one. thirty. sixty billion. NAO.

  • the top string looks like linguini

  • Yeah u played another one bites the dust properly like I asked u

  • @RubixTutorial01

    lol

    yer killing me

  • That is one cool bass. Might have to pick one up

  • I would take the strings off and use it as a spatula!

  • weird, never seen one before

  • how much does that thing cost?

  • @gotokobe1

i think the cost like 500 bucks

  • @davey4557 oh okay thanks!

  • wow the second #2

  • You'd have to learn to vibrato like a violinist, then... it'd be a little tough to get the hang of... any real advantages, do you find?

  • @mit7771

might be cool for a studio thing

it did not inspire me to write a rock opera or a hit single :(
