As an American who has lived all around the world I can tell you that Americans don't have a monopoly on greed. However circumstances certainly enabled us to grow so big. ie; while europe was rebuilding after WWII, the U.S. was manufacturing for the world and profiting hugely.

The keystone of the the problem is money as debt.

Money not as a tool for trade but as an accounting trick, lent into existence enabling the rich to get richer without producing anything.
