why do you have to add iron to recycled steel scrap? wad does the recycling process do to tamper the steel? i read that steel does not lose its physical properties during recycling
Can you imagine the shear it takes to cut thru these huge chunks of steel!! I operated a one inch shear and it was huge, I just can't imagine one that could cut 8 inch thinck steel, WOW!!
Who in their right mind would or could click the dislike button on this video? The dislike of this video are probably from foreigners and terrorist who hate the Great USA, or maybe Chinese that hate the USA! God Bless the USA!!
Modern mass produced "steel" compared to that produced 50 years ago is terrible quality, it is so bad due to the high percentage of scrap introduced before the iron is converted.Impurities from the scrap are not removed;the more its recycled the worse it becomes.Modern mass produced steel machines poorly and corrodes many times faster. In the past even the lowest grade steels exceeded modern standards for mass produced steel.Mass production = low quality, quality steel costs many times more now.
@JFguitar22 bodoh. emak kamu adalah babi nak mampos. baru berkecimpung dalam pembuatan besi dah mengelabah. please use google translate if you not unnderstand my word..
Instead of using coke ovens to transform coal into coke, use LTC Karrick retorts that converts 1 ton of coal into smokeless semi-char w/c burns hotter and produces salable by products like 1 barrel oil, 3000 cu.ft of high BTU gas that can reduce energy costs or sold to further lower steel production costs. Using pure oxygen in blast furnace can further increase efficiencies by producing more iron per ton of fuel consumed. Co-generated electricity can also lower costs & subsidize steel production
@darthvader5300 I like your way of thinking, co-generation or even poly-generation is the future in all industries, if you research the work of david blume author of alcohol can be a gas, you will see that fuel can be made cheaply and sustainability without sacrificing food production infact it increases food production and cleans out oceans etc etc.. look it up mahalo for the post!
@FineHawaiianArt Thanks for the information. My advice in return is look at Professor John Todd's Living Machines and Biospheres and the new Industrial ecosystem wherein the industrial wastes of any industry is used as a raw material by an another industry which can be combined with Living Machines technologies like the Solar Aquacells that requires 1 acre of land to process the sewage of 10,000 people and producing biogas energy, food, fresh drinkable water, and employment
This is a good "modern" view of steel making and the state of the industry. I have gravitated toward the older industry as it matches the time line of the model railroad that I am working on. Fun stuff.
Very Interesting and informative. Why not share this with a wider audience to help them understand the magic and the importance of steelmaking in the US?
I still don't get it

We want to eliminate any type of pollution that could come from factories. Waters used should return elsewhere not back into our drinking water.
