A few years ago I had a manic episode that put me in the mental hospital on two separate occassions. You cannot imagine how dark it is in a place like that. There was a elderly Spanish gentleman who didn't speak English and was highly distraught. The only way he would be calm and quiet is to listen to music. One day was particularly hard for me and as I thought I couldn't handle another minute in there, I heard this song cascading down the hall like a beacon song. Gift to me from above.
he stated, the lord wanted him to follow his direction and not fight it , I know God exhists because of my faith but I was a sinner in my early years , proving to me satan is as real and he is on this earth, but he, s no match for our lord , I can tell you first hand . . .
This is one of those songs that leaves me feeling like I've just received a desperately needed hug. Good song to listen to when you're feelin' a little blue.
"...ask any mother who has children in Vietnam, and she'll tell you that the war is right at her doorstep..." that really struck a chord in me for some reason, I "felt" the sentiment :(
Never seen war, don't have kids to lose...so it's weird that I felt something.
johnny cash is a man of god i think everybody in the world should listen to johnny cash and worship him as the greatest singer in the world LONG LIVE JOHNNY CASH!!!!!
I love this song and the backup vocals were excellent. You can tell Johnny Cash is a man of God and feels His presence. This song always gives me tears and chills.

Simply amazing! J.R. was my Grandfather's favorite singer. R.I.P to them both. Maybe they have met up in heaven. : )

Johnny's voice was ridiculous. His soul was only matched by Elvis and Ray. Just remarkable.

@johnnycash41 You're encouraging idolatry and recommending God at the same time. Just FYI.
