  • HAIL THEODEN, KING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:06 MY GOD LOOK AT THE STATS ON THIS SWORD!

  • This slide-show is like a collection of bad holiday pictures.

  • I truly can't understand the five people who disliked this. This is such an amazing piece of poetry - in fact the only one that i truly loved in the Lord of the Rings.

  • The Whole Beloved Thing In Lord Of The Rings, Is Also The Evil That Is Shown;

Men's Desire To Power, Which Goes Above The Power Of All Others..

  • It was (*sniff*) Amazing! I love it. It's mournful and beautiful! 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 stars!

  • ... out of love, out of life, unto long glory... (if I am not mistaken)

I love that, it's such a brilliant piece. Tolkien's Dark Age-fashioned poetry and the solemn rythm of the music take me there, at the mounds of the buried Lords of the Mark. The Tolkien Ensemble has accomplished an elegy really fitting for a great old warrior-king. I'm especially fond of the Rohirrim, of course, and I think that this and the Song at the Mounds of Mundburg are the best Middle-earth non-Tokien works ever.

  • @glishev i definitely agree with you. It's gorgeous. Westu hal, Theoden,Westu.

  • I love how Rohan is such a brilliant counterpart to the Danes in Beowulf, but Theoden has always struck me. He is the fusion of Hrothgar and Beowulf, two kings who go on two different paths, but are both of like minds. Good men, both, and they truly had much glory at thee times of their deaths. Such is the same with Theoden, King of the Mark. Even his death scene is parallel to Beowulf's final moments with Wiglaf. I think Theoden was of special importance to Tolkien, and he is to me as well.

  • One of the two instances in the book that makes me cry every single time I read this book and I have been reading it since I was seven and am now well in my thirties. So many wonderful characters in the books, so many wondrous characters yet Théoden always remains my favourite - the flawed, wonderful human being. Or as the Master said - immense beauty, accentuated by sorrow.

  • All hail Théoden and the mighty horse Lords of Rohan!

  • Westu Theoden hal!

(I can't get the accent marks to show.)

  • is this really old english she is singing?

  • that was absolutley beautiful

  • I really, really like this song, but what's with the Last of the Mohicans thing going on?

  • Excellent video! Nobody could play Theoden the way Bernard Hill could.

  • One of my favourites by the Tolkien Ensemble. It always brings tears to my eyes.

  • It's really beautiful and touching how the song follows a part of the lyrics and a part of the harmony from Éomer's song! :)

It almost made me cry. I love it.

  • Beautiful...Ever, when I hear it, I want go with Eorlingas to the battle...For their death king...So, Let ever-shining star light in memory of Théoden, Son of Théodred....

When he died, i was crying so long...

It is pity than Middle-earth is fantastic world. I want go there=)

  • @EllethwenEldarwen you can.. just learn how to lucid dream :)

  • @TheSlovenc123 I know. And I use it for many times, when real world let me down:)

  • @EllethwenEldarwen Theoden is the son of Thengel. Theoden's son was Theodred , but he died at age 35 at the Fords of Isen. In the extended version of Two Towers, they have Theodred's funeral. That's why Eomer became king after Theoden, because Eomer was next inline for the throne, although i always have thought that Eowyn should have become a Warrior Queen of the Mark, instead of her brother. I personally have always loved Eowyn the most, but whatever.

  • theoden is one of my favourite charakters in LoTR

  • @Hotmirror7 Me too. He's the perfect hero, opposed to Aragorn, because he's an amazing warrior, an excellent king and he's not perfect. Aragorn is a little too perfect

  • @awesomeshieldmaidenAragorn is perfect all right to me.:)My vote is for him!The magnificence of Tolkien's consciousness is also revealed in the great characters he created! And even more,I think,in that they(who are good)are not actually opposed to each other! All are in league against evil, each one is unique, many are very strong and some are truly great! And yet! There is no rivalry among them-they all work together! In the world of competition it is very difficult even to imagine such cooperation!

  • @svyatoslavlipsky I love Aragorn too!!! He's definitely (at least one of if not)my favorite character!! You're totally right!! it's obvious that you read LOTR (best books EVER in my opinion!), but have read the Silmarillion? Tolkien considered that his REAL masterpiece. it's AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC!!!!!!! It has a lot of what you mentioned. I highly recommend reading it!! Hail Tolkien!!!!!

  • @svyatoslavlipsky What i was trying to say is that I love Theoden. But don't get me wrong, I also LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE Aragorn!!!! He's one of my 3 favorite characters!!! (Which doesn't quit include Theoden. It's Aragorn, Sam and Eowyn.)The only thing is he doesn't seem to have any flaws, which doesn't seem very feasible. But you're right. it is anazing how Tolkien created this world that's seems so real!! If you haven't already red the Silmarillion, you should now!

  • @svyatoslavlipsky What i was trying to say was that i love theoden and Aragorn doesn't seem to have any flaws, which doesn't seem quite feasible. but dont get me wrong. i also LOVE Aragorn!!! He's one of my 3 very favorite characters(along with Sam& Eowyn). its so amazing how Tolkien made this world that seems so real!! P.S read the Silmarillion if yo haven't already! its sooo good!!

  • @awesomeshieldmaiden It needs really developed consciousness to accommodate it. So thanks to the Author yet again! That’s great!

  • Beheald thanc éac ferthu hál gehola!

    Forth Helmingas!

  • theodens death made me cry.

  • Forth Eolingas!

    Waes Hal, Théoden Cyning.

A moving tribute to a wonderful character.

    haha Anelriel! ;-)

  • Out of doubt, out of dark, to the days rising

He rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.

    Hope he rekindled, and in hope ended;

Over death, over dread, over doom lifted

Out of loss, out of life, unto long glory

  • HAIL THÉODEN KING!

    FORTH EORLINGAS!

  • hail theoden

  • yes

  • This so well done, I am surprised it doesn't have more views than this by now.

When I listen to this music, I imagine King Alfred instead. Not to say I am demeaning Theoden. But look to Alfred, and this song does real justice to English and Anglo-Saxon history and tradition.

  • Mæcs mé proúd tó bé 'Ænglisc', Cyng Þéoden dóës! HAIL thë víctóríoús Déad!

    Wëstú, Théoden Cyng, hál!

  • 3:02 FORTH EOLINGERS!!

  • This makes me cry. King Théoden represented everything that is good in humanity. He lost his wife and son and gave up his own life, so that others could live. No man could give a bigger sacrifice.

    Waes hal, Théoden Cyning

  • @torhjelm ooooh wait Cyning means king dosnt it im so stupid.:)

  • @torhjelm Men like Théoden only come once in a life time, and even then they are harder to find.

  • @drsdino i agree, but when the book was being written there would have been many men of that calibur to inspire Tolkien

  • congratulations man excellent vid 6* well done

  • because of grima

  • Grima was a slave to Saruman. He was forced to do what he did out of fear. I pity him

  • Yes, I know. The hobbits should not have kill him

  • yes yes yes...the hobbits should not have killed him...they should have him invited to dinner...

  • lol his face at 02:03. He is pissed but i forget why

  • Grima :P

  • Ah thanks. i havent seen the two towers in a while

  • Anytime need anything about LOTR shout xD take care mate

  • A sword day, a red day, ERE THE SUN RISES.

  • can i get this on itunes??

  • Check Out ,Summoning-A new Power rising.

  • Theoden is an amazing psychological character. We are all like Theoden, asleep on our "thrones", possessed by the evils of the modern world. The true honor and nobility of our spirits lost like a forgotten dream. If only someone like Gandalf, or Jesus, could come and cast out our demons and help us find the great warrior within. Yet most of us are still listening to the worm which poisions our souls and weakens us, allowing evil to grow more and more.

  • Very insightful and ringing of truth, but I am not fond of comparing the situation to Christianity.

  • well its his opinion. the book does have religous undertones. tolkein was very religous.

  • True enough, but I think it is better to leave religious beliefs outside of a response to literature. But then again, it is his opinion so it's not a big deal.

  • ya true enough

  • I don't think so. If you don't pay attention to the religious undertone of the story, you're missing a part. Tolkien wrote, from time to time, parts who had a deeper meaning. Acoring to me, it is a big deal!

  • @LoneMonk1

we have to awake ourself! Gandalf gave the mental impulse, but finally Theoden's victory was made by his strength and own will!

Blessed by the Honesty of a wandering maia and his seek to keep the good and beauty of Arda alive!

Awake yourself Theodens, because if you are Theoden, your are a Gandalf aswell!

Fight and such a great song thanks for the text Alatar

  • @ESPY1200 Wow! Thank you. You get the point. I left it open just so you could say what you just said. We have to decide if we are going to take a stand and become that hero, who is going to do the right thing. Each person has to make that choice for themselves, no one else can or should decide for them. Gandalf never tells Frodo that he has to do anything, he always leaves that choice up to Frodo to decide.

  • @LoneMonk1 theoden is actually old english i think for king so his name is redundant King King.

  • @LoneMonk1 true

  • @LoneMonk1 I can't help but laugh of the irony of this being posted on the internet. It's a good sentiment, but somewhat weakened.

  • @AhsasMaharg -Sorry, I have no idea what you're trying to say.

  • @AhsasMaharg -Sorry, I have no idea what you're trying to say.

  • @LoneMonk1 You were saying that everyone is sitting on their "thrones" possessed by the evils of a modern world... you are using a product of the modern world, the internet, to speak about its evils. This was ironic enough to make me laugh.

  • @AhsasMaharg Yeah you're right. I'm sure it would be much cooler actually talking to you in person. Take care.

  • @LoneMonk1

Absolutely agree with you!! It's like speaking my thoughts!

So let us arise like Gandalf did! When He faced the hardest of the trials, he didn't waver but had no fear and struggled to the end, and even having died was resurrected in new and greater power!!

So let us remember His great example!

  • @LoneMonk1 even though how much i could crave on this feeling, in reality defense is the best offense. idealism only leads to more death.

  • @LoneMonk1 It is the truth you speak. Mild is a world where evil strides, but evil cannot stride safely if it is defied. Whereas, without hope we are lost, but, however, we do have hope, and we are not lost.

  • Theoden is one of my favorite characters in The Lord of the Rings...

  • Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising

he rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.

    Hope he rekindled, and in hope ended;

over death over dread, over doom lifted

out of loss, out of life, unto long glory.

--Theoden's funeral dirge by his minstrel Gleowine.

  • Actually, I thought it was pretty tame. That stuff appeared on regular TV, but I'll delete it if it bothers you.

  • mashado kau affected

  • hey, cool, you can reply to ur own comments...

  • Mourn not overmuch! Mighty was the fallen, meet was his ending. When his mound is raised, women then shall weep. War now calls us!

There Theoden fell, Thengling mighty, to his golden halls and green pastures in the Northern fields never returning, high lord of the host.

  • egsode eorlas, syððanærest wearð

feasceaft funden; he þæs frofre gebad,

    weox under wolcnum weorðmyndum þah,

    oð þæt him æghwylc ymbsittendra

    ofer hronrade hyran scolde,

gomban gyldan; þæt wæs god cyning!

  • Theoden was a good king. May your soul rest beside your ancestors.

  • In the movie I love the part when Eowin sings at the burial of Theoden: I wish there was a full song like this one, amongst all the musics in the movie it sounded to me the closest to Tolkien's spirit!!

  • Heu sorry I meant at the burial of Theodred

  • All hail Theoden king!!!

  • Fate before him. Fealty kept he;

Oaths he had taken, all fulfilled them.

Forth rode Théoden. five nights and days

East and onward rode the Eorlingas

Through Folde and Fenmarch and the Firienwood...

...Doom drove them on. Darkness took them,

    Horse and horseman; hoofbeats afar

Sank into silence; so the songs tell us.
