Embrace who you are and what you have and who you are. I love all people and hate to see when others make it an issue over what race you are. If you are mixed watch the faces of the race your dealing with change when you take a positive stance and call their bluff by being positive about who you are and where your parents originated from.
when it comes to Hair well you can do loads more with your hair when you know what products work well with your Hair type. embrace what you have, u beautiful.
@surgedeb She's basically lip-syncing to an actual performance of the poem in front of an audience, which is why it sounds odd. There's a link to the original performance in the suggestions bar; Bi-Racial Hair. It makes more sense if you look at that one.
@surgedeb She is a spoken word artist. What you call yelling is a type of style of iambic meter that spoken word artists use. The poems that spoken word artists write or recite are written to be performed in that way. If you search spoken word or spoken word artist in youtube they will all be performed in that style.
I have unexplained reverb. And an unseen audience. Well, I should say, she does. And I'm jealous. I want unexplained reverb, DAMN IT!!!!!! I don't know about the audience part.
Wow, again a lot of people are missing the point or just want to see only a little bit at a time. The poem is about the struggle because you're different. Wheither your biracial, mixed whatever. (Not to mention, why do people assume those terms only apply to black and white?) It matters not what her parents really are, but that we, as a people, can't and won't accept those that aren't, clearly, just one race. It shames me in more ways than one can imagine.
you guys ar stupid if she is only black and white, no matter the percentage of both... she is bi- racial. if she is more than two races like me ( black, white, native american) that would then make her multi-racial. omg .... why do stupid ppl multiply faster?
Multiracial and biracial people are beautiful. If you're multiracial or biracial, ignore the haters who make fun of you. You are the product of progression. You're living proof that when people forget about skin color and love themselves and others of different genetic makeup, something beautiful results from it. Keep your heads up! ^__^
You would be grouped as "Mulatto" by the U.S. census that recognized mixed-race people before the years 1910-1930 when the "One Drop Rule" came into play. A name for people with 25% European ancestry, in Latin America, is "Griffe". But, to many, these terms are outdated (in the U.S.).
This so funny because I cant comb my hair unless its wet or I'll be walking around with a big curly friz, but I love my natrual hair and I'm muticulture.
In MY opinion if a person has a full Black parent and a Biracial parent! then that makes them Black because genetically they are more than 50% black so therefore they are BLACK! however having said that, i think it's important for that person to acknowledge the fact that they have white ancestry because it's still apart of who they *
lost and mixed up...release yourself...who you are is in your brain and spirit not your fucking skin color and hair texture..ask a hispanic or carribean person about color..they''ll tell you where they are from they are all one people..america got more twisted mixed up fucking people living in it than anywhere else..blind deaf and dumb as fuck..hispanics and carribean peoples were slaves too but they overcame along time ago..they grew up. some americans still waiting on 40 acres and a mule.
@scruffyrunkin While it is true that the Caribbean had slavery, it ended before the abolishment of slavery in the U.S. Then African Americans had to suffer another 100 years under racial apartheid where thousands of blacks were beaten, lynched, castrated, raped, mutilated, and set on fire. I don't see how a people are suppose to "grow up" after that mammoth amount of psychological trauma (not to mention the systemic forms of racism that continued after the enactment of the Civil Rights laws).
@artboy99 that's 'cause they never retaliated hard enough. the black experience in other countries were no different than that in america for the black slave. willy lynch's book applied on all plantations everywhere. for some reason the black slave in america never retaliated hard enough for his freedom. he got caught up in the white man's books when only the spillage of blood makes true changes. first you spill the slave master blood Then you educate yourself. that;s how you win true freedom
I'm an multi-racial individual as well ( My Great-grand father was Venezuelan and my great grandmother was West Indian). My mother is is half Jamaican and Venezuelan/West Indian and my father being Cuban. I'm just like every other black person! My hair is natural and nappy, and I love everything about it! Although I don't really experience what the young lady in the video is experience, I feel her pain. Being Bi-racial may be hard at times, but at the same time it's a beautiful thing :D
Awesome, I've never heard that poem, before, when my multi-racial (Black,White,Native American) daughters are older, I hope to share this poem with them, Great Video too.
So my mom is black and my dad is from Italy and I have very light skin but THICK NAPPY ASS hair but I know other multiracial people who have nearly straight hair. You never know what you'll get with multiracial people haha its a good thing though!
i honestly believe this only happens in america, i am from the UK, and bi-racial is not a problem here, they are respected like anyone else, i think bi-racial children are actually more common here....... america needs to grow up, and move on from the racism!
@HiddenDiam0nds exactly. the melting pot does not exist! america will never be one single culture, or one single identity. people need to get over it.
love being biracial because there is nothing wrong with it and love being white, black, latino, asian, indian whatever because life is too short to constantly think about your appearance and skin color. seriously i think all skin color is beautiful and being biraical you get a mix of it. so love yourself whatveer race/ethinicity you are.
i have like 10 biracial friends and i get that vibe from 8 of them. the vibe that they dont want the black part of them at all and want to be white completely and that makes me mad because black is beautiful and most of them say (not my friends) but other biracial people on youtube ive seen they say they hang with white people MORE than black people because they feel like they are prettier than black people JUST and ONLY because they are mixed. they say white people make them look pretty.
@NayNaySoFly16 because they were all ganging up on some woman calling her tar baby and saying she looked like a gorilla and other stuff which imply they have self hatred
Oh, yeah ... those kids def. have ISSUES! Probably MUCH deeper than they realize! Geez. I wish some people get that being proud of BOTH or ALL of your heritages does not mean to be dismissive or vile towards one.
@DaTruth2024 Yeah if you have a myspace you should join the multicultural group in myspace and have a look for yourself...some guy who is mostly black with some native american acts very racist towards non-mixed people (or at least people who is less mixed than him)
That guy sounds like a self-hating loser. If I had a MySpace Page aI would check it out. And depending on the tribe, he may or may not be fully (socially) accpeted. But that's another story
I am not against "Multiracial Identity" at all, but I can't stand losers that think to love BOTH sides (or atleast one) they have to hate one (which in many cases is the "Black/West African" side). You can appreciate ALL your ancestries/heritages equally and without being a self-hating racist.
it just makes me mad when a biracial person says im biracial not BLACK and its like i agree that you should be called biracial but to me i get bad vibes like the way they say IM NOT BLACK it makes me think they dont want the black part in them and they want to be completely white. like what if it was vice versa??? and somebody called a biracial person WHITE , would the biracial person yell and still say Iim biracial not WHITE. or would they say thanks for calling me white.?
@NayNaySoFly16 I get that EXACT vibe too. I was on a mixed race group on myspace out of curiousity and this one guy who was mostly black but about 30% native american got offended when I said to him "why are you insulting that black woman just because she's claiming native american heritage, I could say the same about you because you don't look like you're native american either" and he through a bitch fit at me lol..and his other biracial buds ganged up on me lol
why do people make such a big deal about being biracial,. my biracial friend always gets confused about herself and i keep trying to understand why she is acting this way because there is nothing to be confused about. she always says she doesnt know if she wants to accept her black side and that just made me very mad. there is nothing wrong with being black and if youre biracial with that and you think that then i feel sorry for you.
I remember having issues ALL the time growing up as a child and teenager in school and some people would ask me, "Are you mixed or something? cause you look mixed.." like they're offended, while trying to feel my hair. Yeah, I have Mexican and Black in me and all they would say in return, "uhhhghh..." which supposed to mean, EW..disgusting. --Why? Because I have mixed hair? Are they jealous, because my hair is actually real and LONGER? I couldn't even go to GARDENA HIGH! PPL were racist.

im biracial myself and i think mixed girls are beautiful. how dare you say that biracial ppl are "mutts" & "dont belong with african americans".you sound like a damn white racist but in reverse. just because we're mixed doesnt make us any less of a person(black, white or otherwise) than you ! & for you to have the balls to say that mixed kids are "cracker animals" as you called us shows me how tryfling you really are. just cause im not 100% black like you doesnt give you the right to insult me
well, Z's the one complaining. I am perfectly happy with my hair, always have been and always will be. I do not apologize for being of mixed background and I do not recommend anyone else to apologize. Love yourself folks.
i feel the same way i feel like they look at biracials as a taboo something that shouldnt be accepted hello people we are black too my mother just happens to be white its sad because i have to work twice as hard to prove who i am to my own people it hurts
Ohiogurl...why are you working TWICE as hard and who do you need to prove anything to? Friend-girl, let me enlighten you...stop appeasing folk (white, black, asian, whateva!) and learn to love yourself. Mixed race is a gift! Not only is it pleasant to look but WE have the ability to move within various circles, thereby living, learning and loving more. Enjoy it sis. You owe no-one, nothing. Says me. Happy New Year! Make 2010 the year you begin to love yourself...
understandable-your position makes sense. but i disagree...that is universal statement and is therefore incorrect. I am African American and I believe everyone is equal regardless of what you look like. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion though
@tybeebeachbunny I am multi racial like you however, I would never deby any of my enthnical back grounds because they all make up the beauty that is me. Whether you like it you are what you and when you comes to terms with this then you you will allow your True Beauty to shine through
@tybeebeachbunny You don't have to worry about placating the black race. It's the white race you have to worry about. They're going to let you know who you are really quick. Yeah, Paul Mooney said it the best...you'll get your wake up call soon enough.
Her mom is black and her dad looks biracial which makes her, multiracial, not biracial (Correct me if I am wrong)However, I still enjoyed the video.I have biracial kids ,and I have always liked that poem.
@obdiane her dad doesn't look biracial more like he's not white maybe of some other single decent like south eastern european or middle east or even just a tan white. like taylor launter he's just a really tan white dude. hahah besides i think that when it comes to hair racial stuff is a little different since not every race has completely different sets of hair. also she knows what she is regardless of what u think her dad looks like.
@lovestoned1993 umm it's like 5%. that's not much. and he only found that out after he filmed twilight. it's not like he has a huge connection to his NA self or something. i feel like he doesn't really care much about it. there are other people that find out and do more to connect. idk that's just my opinion.
@obdiane i'm multiracial [means someone who is mixed with more than 2 races] and if someone has a black mom and a dad who is half black and half white that doesn't make them multi racial ,it means that they have a dual heritage or they are part white and mostly black.....bi racials[half white\half black] are mixed with more white and black than me because i'm mixed with 4 races close by.
@obdiane if someone has two bi racail parents than that person is bi racail too and a person can be bi racail if all their grandparents are biracails which makes that persons parents bi racail too
@obdiane Well biracial means two races. So even if her mother is 100% black and her father is half black and half white aren't there still two races being represented there? Which means she is biracial?
HER DAD COULD BE SPANISH WHICH MAKES HER BIRACIAL... THE PROBLEM IS YOU 19 PEOPLE WHO THUMBS THIS UP COMMENT U CNT DETERMINE RACE BY LOOKS .... PPL ARE SO DIVERSE AND MIXED UP THESE DAYS U CNT TELL... HONESTLY U COULD NEVER TELL
@obdiane ASSUMING! the father is Biracial with Black and white and her mother is black... That makes her BIRACIAL... Quick Def: Bi = 2.... Bi-Lateral.... Bi-Sexual... Bi- RACIAL... If her father and mother are both BLACK thats 1 race + the HALF of her fathers WHITE race... You get 2 RACES. You don't say yea I'm half black and half quarter white and quarter black. Nice vid btw. Biracial does not indicate HOW MUCH YOU ARE of a race, more so HOW MANY races.
I like it because she made a strong statement. "where do I fit into this society having bi-racial blood and bi racial hair" She said she could make up her own people just like her and its b/c we drove her ot it. This is a wake up call to Amerikkka. I'm not just talking about whites i'm speaking of blacks too. Its time for peace and whoever doesnt want it has got to be dealt with!

@tybeebeachbunny -are you even black? do you know how african americans think?
Dee10291 2 years ago
no Dee, I'm NOT black, I am a woman of mixed race...just like the girl in the vid, but unlike her, I do not placate the black race....anything else?
tybeebeachbunny 2 years ago 13
understandable-your position makes sense. but i disagree...that is universal statement and is therefore incorrect. I am African American and I believe everyone is equal regardless of what you look like. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion though
Dee10291 2 years ago
@tybeebeachbunny I am multi racial like you however, I would never deby any of my enthnical back grounds because they all make up the beauty that is me. Whether you like it you are what you and when you comes to terms with this then you you will allow your True Beauty to shine through

@tybeebeachbunny How is she doing that? Here we go again,

@tybeebeachbunny You don't have to worry about placating the black race. It's the white race you have to worry about. They're going to let you know who you are really quick. Yeah, Paul Mooney said it the best...you'll get your wake up call soon enough.

Amazing job Lisa and Zora! Love you both and proud to be your brother. : )

Exactly...I will second that notion. Most American blacks are not uni-racial.

Her mom is black and her dad looks biracial which makes her, multiracial, not biracial (Correct me if I am wrong)However, I still enjoyed the video.I have biracial kids ,and I have always liked that poem.
obdiane 2 years ago 22
@obdiane Actually, she would be biracial if her mother is black and her father is mixed with black and white. She would have two races in her.

@harriettewinslow
Most AA are mixed technically.

@obdiane If your dad is biracial (black and white) and your mom is black, then how many races are you? Black and white... two... bi-racial... duh...
giggletherapy 1 year ago
@giggletherapy ur 3 races
AeropostaleBaybe731 1 year ago
@obdiane her dad doesn't look biracial more like he's not white maybe of some other single decent like south eastern european or middle east or even just a tan white. like taylor launter he's just a really tan white dude. hahah besides i think that when it comes to hair racial stuff is a little different since not every race has completely different sets of hair. also she knows what she is regardless of what u think her dad looks like.

@annasosexy Taylor Launtner has some Native American blood in him.
lovestoned1993 1 year ago
@lovestoned1993 umm it's like 5%. that's not much. and he only found that out after he filmed twilight. it's not like he has a huge connection to his NA self or something. i feel like he doesn't really care much about it. there are other people that find out and do more to connect. idk that's just my opinion.
annasosexy 1 year ago
@obdiane i'm multiracial [means someone who is mixed with more than 2 races] and if someone has a black mom and a dad who is half black and half white that doesn't make them multi racial ,it means that they have a dual heritage or they are part white and mostly black.....bi racials[half white\half black] are mixed with more white and black than me because i'm mixed with 4 races close by.
cherri7 1 year ago
@obdiane if someone has two bi racail parents than that person is bi racail too and a person can be bi racail if all their grandparents are biracails which makes that persons parents bi racail too

WRONG

@obdiane
her dad looked latino to me...
myronmlawing 1 year ago
@obdiane Well biracial means two races. So even if her mother is 100% black and her father is half black and half white aren't there still two races being represented there? Which means she is biracial?
jenisbrit 1 year ago
@obdiane
HONESTLY U COULD NEVER TELL
constance380 1 year ago 3
@obdiane actually even if her fdad is mixed if he is mixed with black and white then she is still bi-racial
msbritt731 1 year ago
@obdiane ASSUMING! the father is Biracial with Black and white and her mother is black... That makes her BIRACIAL... Quick Def: Bi = 2.... Bi-Lateral.... Bi-Sexual... Bi- RACIAL... If her father and mother are both BLACK thats 1 race + the HALF of her fathers WHITE race... You get 2 RACES. You don't say yea I'm half black and half quarter white and quarter black. Nice vid btw. Biracial does not indicate HOW MUCH YOU ARE of a race, more so HOW MANY races.

whatever, every1 gets picked on, arabs, black, indians, whites, half whatever, EVERY1 no matter where you are.
