Think about the windshield wipers on a jet. Sounds trivial and insignificant, but for them to operate correctly @ 400 KIAS, there is some serious engineering involved with the design. Not too many people think about stuff like that. I guess I shouldn't get high and fly.

The new Sandy Bridge i7's give a big performance boost to FSX. I also have a GTX 570 and I get a big FPS boost. I am also running with the PMDG 747-400 (w/747-8i extension).
Hey man great video. Great graphics, landing, and song. U2 fits perfectly to this video. But I have a question. When I'm using the PMDG 747-400, and doing autolands, it makes hard landings, not as soft a yours. I selected the VREF in the FMC for landing but still hard landing. Do you know why? And another question. When I bought my comp the vendor said i7 2.8 GHz is better for FSX, but when I'm seeing this, I doubt about it and i think quad core is better, so what better? Thanks in advance
@arjennovic well the more cores u have, the better the performance on Flightsim x. im planning on upgrading to a i7 soon, but you need to make sure you have a good video card also, if u have an i7 and like a 8500gt thats a bad mix. and for the autoland idk wat to tell you. its probably due to the relative wind and current weather condition on the sim.
@arjennovic Hi, the hard landing can perhaps be caused by your altimeter setting. If it's wrong, the aircaft thinks the Rwy elevation is 156' but it's 174?...So, before landing, set ATIS frequency and listen to Qnh. I don't know if this is The reason, but it could be...Good flights

@201andrew well thats sounds great. i hope that does happen for you. i dont use FSX any more i use fs2004 with vatsim network. its the most professional environment you'll ever see for flight sim. They have great atc all around the world for us to fly in. if u never heard of them check them out. and im almost done with my priviate pilots license after that i will join the air force reserved and get my GI bill to pay for my instrmument,multi, and commerical with ATP
the most unrealistic parts of this simulation is that no real plane effects, and there should b at least b 2 pilots, co and captain. Some maneuvers that u cause in dis game, in real life, could make the planes, have huge problems, i just leave this crap, and get the best grades at school, and do it 4 real. the only simulation that i like is euro truck simulator. This is just to much money to send on addons to make it look like good, it still dosnt look realistic

hey dude i iinstalled my 747-400X but then when im going to use its flight computers and the model have something wrong with it and put that line between those 2 things begin SHA1 etc adn its still does'nt show the computers
when i´m landing with ils at phuket (VTSP) rwy 27 the instruments are landing the aircraft about 50 meters to the right of the runway, anyone noticed that in your version of fsx?:)
I don't know whats wrong i am so not good with the FMC in the plane and i can hardly put my destination or anything and so cause of that i use the default GPS in the plane to make things bit easier ans then again at the same time i guess due to non FMC flight procedures my plane struggles to maintain heading the yoke just keeps on turning left and right on its own.
@glasswings21: You should really try and lean to operate the fmc. There are lots of tutorials on youtube. if you want, I can try to make a step-by-step one. But have a look around youtube :)

Wrong.. While coming in on final approach, you have the Speedbrake set to AUTO. When the back wheels touch the ground (when you flare) speed brakes should deploy automaticly. The reason you put speedbrakes when you land, (on runway) is to stop the airflow, and to keep the plane on the ground, and to keep it from going in the air again. The only reason you would put up the speedbrakes before on the runway, is to descend faster (go down faster) while keeping a reasonable speed.

check the manual since it is a PDF, you can use the search box on the top in Adobie Reader to find it out. It's alot easier to find it in there than it is for me to explain it to you!
VERY nice video 5/5....is this add-on a huge FPS killer? coz i have amdx2 2.4ghz 2gig ram 8800GT, and with the MPDG MD-11 i get like 10-12 FPS- while using stock 747/ 737 i get like 45-50fps....is this MPDG 747 as demanding as the MD-11?
It is, however in the different PMDG products in the settings tab you can adjust the settings for the FPS for your displays. You can adjust the VC and the 2D's displays You can set them to a lower frame rate resulting in a higher perfomance. Another thing you can do is to shut down ALL programs IE's and IM's. Any processing power you can pull out of your computer will be eaten up by FSX as im sure you know.
thnx so much for the info...yea i gotta agree with you- PMDG 747 puts the default 747 to shame..it is MUCH more realistic and rewarding in my opinion- but the performance on my pc is horrible with it...gonna try to adjust the water detail and mess around with the PMDG settings tab...
One note here, if you already have your settings down at 1x dont bother kicking it up to 2x. Only drop it. Another easy fix can be setting the autogen settings less and killing all your traffic Cars, Boats and other aircraft in your normal settings tab.
First load the airplane. If you do not see the tabs on the top of the screen like Flights, Aircraft, World.... and such hit tab. There you should see the Add-ons tab. go to PMDG->Performance Tuning click on it. You should see two spinners there. If you fly one more than the other set the one you use the most to your perfered setting then set the one you dont use all the way down to 5 meaning 5 FPS (or very close to it).
hmm i have gone to Free Flight- and loaded the airplane- but i do not see any new tabs like Flights, Aircraft, world..and no Add-Ons tab either...hmm any suggestions?
You might have corrupted your dll.xml or there is an error that is causing that not to load properly with different addons conflicting with eachother. You can either debug this yourself or try by looking through tutorials that have been published online. Most likely the structure is all there but an accidental space was put in... If you were to view it in Internet Explorer, you can see the structure. You can edit it if you open the .xml's with Notepad just like your aircraft.cfg .
Literally Google ( corrupt dll.xml ) and PMDG will be the first on the list. You can copy the codes they published and dirrectly and paste it into your dll.xml to fix the issue. Just remember this will fix it BUT you will need to keep in mind that addons like WILCO and LVLD may need to be reinstalled so their options can be viewed in the list/run correctly in the game
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MAKE SURE YOU BACK IT UP BY CHANGING THE FILE EXTENTION TO SOMETHING LIKE dll.xml_BAK SO IT DOESNT LOAD

@flightsimfantastic370, thats great, but im just saying, im planin to b pilot, im 15, i go to lane tech high school in, one of the best scoos and im doin great. im on my way to getting to flight scoo aftr high scoo to some good scoo in florida, i think if i become a airline pilot, it would b fun, entertainment, and career, at the same time. Im just sayin that real life is better, and u could get the best influence, and expierience. fsx and all that shit, is just a basic expirence

@201andrew well thats sounds great. i hope that does happen for you. i dont use FSX any more i use fs2004 with vatsim network. its the most professional environment you'll ever see for flight sim. They have great atc all around the world for us to fly in. if u never heard of them check them out. and im almost done with my priviate pilots license after that i will join the air force reserved and get my GI bill to pay for my instrmument,multi, and commerical with ATP

the most unrealistic parts of this simulation is that no real plane effects, and there should b at least b 2 pilots, co and captain. Some maneuvers that u cause in dis game, in real life, could make the planes, have huge problems, i just leave this crap, and get the best grades at school, and do it 4 real. the only simulation that i like is euro truck simulator. This is just to much money to send on addons to make it look like good, it still dosnt look realistic

hey dude i iinstalled my 747-400X but then when im going to use its flight computers and the model have something wrong with it and put that line between those 2 things begin SHA1 etc adn its still does'nt show the computers

when i´m landing with ils at phuket (VTSP) rwy 27 the instruments are landing the aircraft about 50 meters to the right of the runway, anyone noticed that in your version of fsx?:)

addon scenery blows away pmdg's from centerline. If so uninstall the scnery crapp and your pmdg will come back on track

I don't know whats wrong i am so not good with the FMC in the plane and i can hardly put my destination or anything and so cause of that i use the default GPS in the plane to make things bit easier ans then again at the same time i guess due to non FMC flight procedures my plane struggles to maintain heading the yoke just keeps on turning left and right on its own.

@glasswings21: You should really try and lean to operate the fmc. There are lots of tutorials on youtube. if you want, I can try to make a step-by-step one. But have a look around youtube :)

Yes, for two weeks ago i didnt now anything about the PMDG 747, then i watched "Poflightsimmedia" 747 tutorial, search hes channel. Now i can fly this fantastic bird.

OK cool but i found even a better substitute for this bird ;) i have a neighbor hes a pilot for united airlines and flown the 747-400 i have talked about the PMDG stuff to him all i am waiting for him is to agree on some FMC tutorial and i am all set but till then i would also look for the guys channel you mentioned around here thanks a lot buddy once again and take care.

speedbrakes is before you land, not on runway!

Wrong.. While coming in on final approach, you have the Speedbrake set to AUTO. When the back wheels touch the ground (when you flare) speed brakes should deploy automaticly. The reason you put speedbrakes when you land, (on runway) is to stop the airflow, and to keep the plane on the ground, and to keep it from going in the air again. The only reason you would put up the speedbrakes before on the runway, is to descend faster (go down faster) while keeping a reasonable speed.

check the manual since it is a PDF, you can use the search box on the top in Adobie Reader to find it out. It's alot easier to find it in there than it is for me to explain it to you!

VERY nice video 5/5....is this add-on a huge FPS killer? coz i have amdx2 2.4ghz 2gig ram 8800GT, and with the MPDG MD-11 i get like 10-12 FPS- while using stock 747/ 737 i get like 45-50fps....is this MPDG 747 as demanding as the MD-11?

It is, however in the different PMDG products in the settings tab you can adjust the settings for the FPS for your displays. You can adjust the VC and the 2D's displays You can set them to a lower frame rate resulting in a higher perfomance. Another thing you can do is to shut down ALL programs IE's and IM's. Any processing power you can pull out of your computer will be eaten up by FSX as im sure you know.

thnx so much for the info...yea i gotta agree with you- PMDG 747 puts the default 747 to shame..it is MUCH more realistic and rewarding in my opinion- but the performance on my pc is horrible with it...gonna try to adjust the water detail and mess around with the PMDG settings tab...

One note here, if you already have your settings down at 1x dont bother kicking it up to 2x. Only drop it. Another easy fix can be setting the autogen settings less and killing all your traffic Cars, Boats and other aircraft in your normal settings tab.

First load the airplane. If you do not see the tabs on the top of the screen like Flights, Aircraft, World.... and such hit tab. There you should see the Add-ons tab. go to PMDG->Performance Tuning click on it. You should see two spinners there. If you fly one more than the other set the one you use the most to your perfered setting then set the one you dont use all the way down to 5 meaning 5 FPS (or very close to it).

hmm i have gone to Free Flight- and loaded the airplane- but i do not see any new tabs like Flights, Aircraft, world..and no Add-Ons tab either...hmm any suggestions?

You might have corrupted your dll.xml or there is an error that is causing that not to load properly with different addons conflicting with eachother. You can either debug this yourself or try by looking through tutorials that have been published online. Most likely the structure is all there but an accidental space was put in... If you were to view it in Internet Explorer, you can see the structure. You can edit it if you open the .xml's with Notepad just like your aircraft.cfg .

Literally Google ( corrupt dll.xml ) and PMDG will be the first on the list. You can copy the codes they published and dirrectly and paste it into your dll.xml to fix the issue. Just remember this will fix it BUT you will need to keep in mind that addons like WILCO and LVLD may need to be reinstalled so their options can be viewed in the list/run correctly in the game
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MAKE SURE YOU BACK IT UP BY CHANGING THE FILE EXTENTION TO SOMETHING LIKE dll.xml_BAK SO IT DOESNT LOAD
