  • Brian Cox is damn old, looks so young.

  • This counts as studying for my astronomy exam tomorrow, right?

  • "No copyright infringement intended, no profit being made" - does adding this in the description make a difference?

    Thanks for posting though.

  • this episode could not go on too long, this has been amazing

  • Surely ground squirrel is where the squirrel apocalypse started.

  • I'm living in Donegal and I've never even heard of that slogan =)

  • Great Episode!

  • 365 videos, one for every day in the year.think its time to start watching one a day!

  • @hammythehippy You can restrict yourself to one a day? I'm impressed.

  • @FunkyHonkyCDXX this is how i feel about masturbation.

  • Oceans of diamond with Diamond icebergs! A minecrafter's dream.

  • I am terribly sorry, Dr. Cox, but I have to be a bit of a pedant. It wasn't Richard Feynman who gave the quip about the electron, it was his advisor: Dr. J. A. Wheeler. However, I agree that it is quite interesting to consider that there is but only one more electron than positron in this universe.

  • @communistgoatboy quite interesting. Have 5 points!

  • This is quite possibly my favourite QI episode ever. You couldn't have got a better person to play off Brian Cox than Ross Nobel. If they'd replaced Sue Perkins for Dara Ó Briain it would've been absolute gold... (Sorry Sue)

  • The things I would do to Brian Cox :)

  • One word: Ewoks.

  • The way Fry says squirrel is just plain confusing.

  • @TheCoryKid What, correctly?

  • 'Intelligence at work' :)

  • Im thinking of Neptune or Uranus.....NO...NO....NO...NO!!!

  • A few, choice, brilliant moments here:

    1. Sue's reaction to Alan saying Mock the Week was a degrading experience

    2. Brian's answer to Ross' query about Ewoks

    3. Stephen is wearing a Q.I. pin! Look at the lapel on the left of his jacket (his left, not ours)

    4. It's nice to know that Stephen is also sexually aroused by knowledge

    5. "Well done everybody especially me."

My summary of probably my favourite episode. <3

  • It's funny at the beginning that Stephen pretends to forget Sue's name, because of course he really did once.

  • @Myzelfa Yeah I miss Mel.

  • @SaitotheSushi And Fawlty Towers!

  • I thought that was James Blunt lol

  • Brian Cox has the most soothing voice ever

  • @FearlessSpinner and Sue Perkins the most annoying.

  • Ross Noble and Brian Cox are an amazing double act.

  • So, there were two nobody knows this episode? I thought it was only one a show.

  • I am watching this episode for the Nth time, and paying attention to Brian especially, I noticed that there was so much more he could have brought in, but got run over by the flow of the show. He's so nice and brilliant. I hope he comes again and not being a first timer he could have more confidence.

  • I would really like to know where that you can get sex from goats thought came from? haha.

  • I love that electron theory. It's amazing to think about!

  • Penguins poo a German scientist from Bremen?

    11:20

  • Best Episode for this season so far XDDDD

  • It's just me or this episode needed more 3 hours?

  • Brian Cox is great, he's smarter than Rory McGrath and not a cunt. I also loved Ross, fucking hilarious. They make a great foil for one another.

  • 18:35 We discussed that in physics, one student said, "So you can make a cup of tea before the world ends?"

  • I want that prairie dog

  • excellent loads of fun and one of the most interesting guests *non comedian* in Brian Cox

  • This episode really wants me to obtain Alan's buzzer as a ringtone.

  • What if a prairie dog saw a naked man comming?

  • Alan's buzzer,,,,,,love this show.

  • Ross was made for this show. If Alan ever decides he's done with it, Ross can just slide over one chair.

Best ep of the series so far, I concur. Only the inclusion of Mitchell or O'Briain could've made it a classic.

  • I've watched this episode four times now just so I can listen to Brian's lovely voice... As well as every other video of him on Youtube. Ask me about physics, I know it now! Lol

  • ooh, taking a shot at mtw, very cheeky alan, brian is always one of the best guests, tossing off ewoks into lakes of methane is very poetic, thanks so much for sharing these videos, i laughed until i cried, cheers from san diego

  • this is my fav episode thus far.

  • Time this, time that and no reference to Doctor Who? No wibbly wobbly timey wimey? no big ball from a non-linear non-subjective viewpoint?

  • This is probably the best episode of QI I've ever seen.

I'm pretty sure I've watched all of them up until this...

  • I have fallen in love with Professor Brian Cox.

    Great episode!

  • This might be my favourite QI episode to date. Brian Cox's arrogant intelligence is alarmingly sexy.

  • @Jillianna that s odd, i never get even the slightest hint of arrogance from him, i do think it s cool that everyone asks him about even the most random of topics, be it jet ski s or star wars characters.. ta

  • Only 5 points to Brian? He was plenty interesting and not wrong once. I wonder how the score is calculated :)

  • Stephen Fry voice on Garmin or TomTom. I would by it. lol

  • Brian Cox is fascinating!

  • @K8tBoosh Imagine having Stephen Fry and Brian Cox for dinner :)

  • HA! The patience to wait for the XL. A nice end to the day.

  • Brian is wonderful, but Sue pulled the show down a bit with her anti-science stance.

  • these three are some of my favourite guests! Brian cox must return for another episode! i love the space/science topics!

  • Yo' momma's such a slut, she's known as the LHC, Large Hard-on Collider

  • Excellent show. I've added another name to the list of people that I will search out. Thanks to QI I've found Dara O'Briain, David Mitchell and Sue Perkins and Ross Noble. Now to look up some of the Professor's documentaries.

I wondered who could dislike this episode. Then I figured it out. They are puppet lovers.

  • @RealtorJeff Check out the one Brian Cox has done with Dara O'Briain in January of this year called Stargazing LIve, it's three episodes, one hour each.

  • @quite1nteresting I'm don't want to burden you but could you recommend some good bbc show. The opened a new ABC shop and it also sells quite a lot of BBC stuff.

  • @Saitothesushi Red Dwarf, Tower Heights, Black Adder, The IT Crowd, Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Trip, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, The Young Ones, and, of course, Monty Python's Flying Circus.

  • @kaeyoh Ahh, thank you.

  • @RealtorJeff nope ewok lovers

  • @RealtorJeff I am from the United States of America. I had never heard of Stephen Fry, David Mitchell, etc. until I started watching QI on YouTube. I have since looked up their stuff and am now an enormous fan of British sketch comedy (and yes, I've seen every episode of QI at least twice).

  • "is it magic"?

  • I want Stephen's Lapel Pin!

  • That prairie dog should've been calling to DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!

  • A shout-out to Northern Arizona University! Lumberjacks represent!

  • Funny thing - I found the US edition Book of General Ignorance in a Boston bookshop, but there was no mention of QI anywhere on the cover jacket. At all.

I had to look inside to find a foreword by Stephen Fry, and obviously he mentioned it.

  • It'd have been funny if Stephen had called Sue Perkins "Mel" at the beginning.

  • I could give Cox my ear for hours...wait

  • how can we run out of helium? its chemically inert so can always be reclaimed

  • if the supply is set at a finite level and then the demand for helium increases then you would run out. yes you can reclaim but you cannot create more

  • @Denseus1 and that is where you are wrong, we cannot create more YET. but it is actually already believed that the future of energy on earth and the way of solving the energy crisis will be fusion. and fusion generally entails creating helium from hydrogen, creating so much energy that actually stars burn on the very reaction

  • @hell043 i suspect that you may be referring to helium-3 not helium, helium-3 is a non-radioactive isotope two protons and one neutron. It is rare on Earth, and is sought for use in nuclear fusion research. They are talking about helium-4 which is two protons and two neutrons and is what people refer to when saying helium.

also, the possibility that we may be able to create more helium in the future is irrelevant if we do not have the ability by 2035 as that is when we may run out of helium.

  • @Denseus1 we wont run out, we will have it all in use

  • besides the main reason of us running out is the usa actually keeping the price low because they are dropping their helium stocks, filling balloons at $5 a balloon is something noone would do

  • @hell043 indeed. the usa hates the idea of anyone interfering with the free market unless, of course, it is them doing it.

  • This episode illustrates the difference between interesting and annoying when it comes to sharing knowledge:

Interesting: When you want to share the knowledge because you personally find it fascinating.

Annoying: When you want to share the knowledge because you want other people to think you're smart.

Brian Cox was interesting. Rory McGrath was annoying. :-)

  • the sat nav part is so great

  • Total-itarian regime.

  • Fantastic episode. QI, Brian Cox, and no annoying guests. Thank you so much for uploading.

  • What a fantastic episode. Eye candy (hello, Sue Perkins and Brian Cox) and science! Hnng.

  • that tie! those colours!

  • Has nobody pointed out Stephen's phenomenal slip of the tongue at 42:12 yet? Hilarious!

  • I haven't watched Mock the Week since Frankie Boyle got off the show, is it any good?

  • @Neverwishy It really depends. Some episodes go well, some are... disappointing...

  • Although he probably has far better things to be doing. I wish we could have brian cox every week.

  • I heart Sue Perkins

  • i have had roses and other flowers frozen in liquid nitrogen and shattered off of my naked body. is so stunning and beautiful, and when the shards of petals thaw the fragrance is just incredible.

  • Wow, my state got rather a nice call out tonight, hooray. Of course, I'm also a Kentucky Colonel--my college civics professor had some connections and got the whole class, er, coloneled, I suppose. But you have to pay rather exorbitant dues to stay current--at least, for us normal folks. Don't know if celebrities get special treatment. I'm glad to know we treated Stephen well.

  • i fell in love with Ross Noble with his whole "Toblerone Rolo Combo", but the whole "Tossing Ewoks into a Lake of Fart" just slayed me...he is way too funny! If Alan ever leaves, Ross should replace him as the full time scapegoat.

  • @StoliDassah

Don't even JOKE about Alan leaving! He's half of QI! Without him, it would be much less funny to watch!

  • @PollyJuice i wasn't joking, it was an if a very big IF

  • @StoliDassah

I agree, Ross has become one of my favorite guests on the show.

He's not as cuddly as Alan though.

  • @PrivateSchemers1 yeah, true, i think even Fry struggles on whether to smack or cuddle him at times, lol

  • I'm thoroughly enjoying Stephen's tie.

  • Love Stephen's outfit!

  • @TomPhilip92 they're on dvd...Stephen Fry in America...my public library carries it for check-out (personally I bought mine from DeepDiscount

  • Woot woot! Living here in Louisville, I just love that Stephen is a Kentucky Colonel now.

  • Someone should make "ALAN!ALAN!-STEVE!STEVE!" into a ringtone!

  • Wow!!!! Q.I back with avengence! Brian Cox absolutely starred. Brilliant! Thanks =)

  • @TomPhilip92 try yandex.ru its a Russian site but i have found all the episodes there, just type in Stephen Fry in America and go to google videos its listed there

  • i love ross... and sue is still sexy as hell... :)

  • I'm from Kentucky and I never made the alcohol connection in "Unbridled Spirit."

  • Interesting conversation about time from 17:45

I don't believe time exists, as it is in my opinion a man made concept basically invented to keep track of the earth's position in relation to the sun. People who think about time as being linear often come to the conclusion that it must be possible to alternate time. Which again leads to the ultimate fantasy of time travel. Our understanding of time is challenged when we attempt to apply it on the level of nano- or micro-particles, or galaxies.

  • Does anyone know where i can watch Stephen's Americsn State documentaries????

  • ah yes Brian Cox, the sexiest scientist around.

  • Who is this Brian Cox and why am I just now finding out about him?!??! I think I've fallen in love....

  • Brian Cox, you are perfect.

  • Brian Cox is QI's way of saying "sorry about the puppet last week". Redemption gained, QI.

  • @jetfire851 well said!

  • @jetfire851 haha, totally. That puppet was idiotic. Cox however is the prime example of hos intelligence is sexy, AND funny.

  • @jetfire851 yeah i was 'completely and utterly not comprehending that' .. (see what i did there?) but yeah. terrible decision i honestly felt QI was about to just sink more than when i found out there was a chance dear stephen fry wouldnt be hosting QI back in the day.

  • Can I have the key to the city?

    Yeah, 'right then.

  • I wish Brian had answered Ross' question about taking a Sat-Nav into space. Satellites use GPS too, but I don't think the International Space Station is in your average Sat-Nav's database. What's it going to say: "Go straight up for 1 hour then turn left"?

  • @RMoribayashi lol that would be great XD, then after the turn left it would say please wait for 10 minutes while we cycle you through the air lock

  • I think Stephen has fallen in love with BOTH Professor Cox's brains. I know I have.

  • I live in Oldham, only good thing about it is its the birthplace of Brian Cox

  • "and four minutes later I'm still talking" <3

  • brilliant episode

  • thats it i am off tossing ewoks into the lake of farts!

  • Some of Saturn's rings are braided. They think this is caused by those shepherd moons.

  • I'm here for the cock.... I mean Cox...

  • Good know-it-alls: Ben Miller, Brian Cox

Bad know-it-alls: Rory McGrath, Gyles Brandreth

  • @GravityWell34 Ben miller is that evil/clever Rob brydon?

  • @Fanouriou indeed it is

  • @GravityWell34 I'm not sure Rory is the bad kind, but i agree with the rest.

  • @GravityWell34 John session is another bad know-it-all but there was a bloke who was in the pilot episode and he was amazingly intelligent but really cool at the same time i have forgotten his name

  • @hahaha430 Kit Hesketh-Harvey?

  • who is that Brian guy..?

as in whats his full name?

  • @MrRCPresident Brian Cox

  • @MrRCPresident

Professor Brian Cox of the University of Manchester. Presents a TV series called Wonders of the Universe on BBC

  • Great episode! I'm an expat and missed the whole Brian Cox thing but heard he was annoying. I loved him in this!

  • "There's a Socratic acceptance of the limits of one's own knowledge, and there's ignorance. I'm not saying which is which." LOL! I love it!

  • WHO THE HELL can dislike this?!?

  • The only way this episode could be better is if they stuck Dara O'briain and Ben Miller in it too

  • They should only broradcast the XL's

  • Definitely the A-Team this week to make up for the ventriloquisaster last week. Sue "Lovely" Perkins, Ross "Woolly Willy" Noble, Brian "Ducky" Cox, and Alan "Alan Davies" Davies. Brilliant panel, great show. Thanks for the upload, as always.

Just noticed Sinatra's "I've got you under my skin" is one of the recommended videos... Considering the content of the episode, I can only assume this is a reference to the rings of Saturn...

  • the xls are more entertaining than the 30minutes versions (Y)

  • What an utterly brilliant episode! THIS is what QI is all about. Thank you so much for the upload! ....and now i think i will re-watch it.

  • What is Alan referring to, when he talks about Mock the week?

  • @Sampoorna108 There are eps of it on youtube. It's sort of like a BBC panel show version of the Daily Show.

  • @Sampoorna108 an example of a demeaning act

  • What a breath of fresh air this episode was, compared to the previous. I think Brain Cox did a great job keeping the science down and to an entertaining level, and it suited the others aswell, I felt. Extra points for Ross' ewoks and mr Fry's excellent tie.

  • stephen fry and brian cox ive cum my pants

  • brian cox might be smart, handsome and sympathetic but since i'm especially moronic when it comes to physics and find him in no way funny or at least entertaining, after a while my brain drowns him out with david mitchell's voice ranting about cool good-looking science dudes... or something...

  • Brilliant like always.

  • They should just skip the 30 and 45 minute episodes and do ones that last an entire hour.

It feels as if they skip to much good stuff otherwise.

  • Even though I'm not the biggest of Roble fans, I must admit his response at 22:40 absolutely killed me. Brilliant stuff.

  • @Aidinovic Is 'ROble' intentional? I love that contraction if deliberate

  • @3122tan It is indeed.

  • @tommarjuki I think his intelligence is a factor in his attractiveness, but without his good looks people would not be that interested. If you look at Mick Jagger on his twenties he was rather good-looking.

  • @pacmansays he looked like a cave man.. still do

  • Colonel Fry'ed Chicken. Lol.

  • Comment removed

  • People say they are attracted to Brian Cox because he is intelligent but I really think it's because he's handsome. If he wasn't good looking no one would be saying they find him attractive based off his intelligence

  • @pacmansays That's arse, yes he's not ugly so that helps but people are also attractive for their personalities or talents. Mick Jagger is ugly as hell but people are attracted to him because he's talented and has charisma.

  • @pacmansays

Not sure if thats true. At least not that last bit (that no one would say they find him attractive if he wasn't good looking). Im attracted to Stephen Fry and its not because I find him particularly beautiful. Its because he is funny and intelligent. That being said: Brians apperance surely doesn't hurt him.

  • @pacmansays Don't agree with that, personally I find intelligence a huge turn on. Having said that, Brian's looks certainly do him no harm.

  • @pacmansays You know when Dara O'Briain first caught my eye? When he was on QI and answered the question about the triple point of water. I just thought that was so awesome. It's the same reason I love Stephen Fry - because he's both extremely intelligent and also funny. Brian Cox would be just another forgettable "pretty boy" if it weren't for him being so intelligent and personable.

  • I really loved Brian Cox here. I wish he'll come back again! :D

  • ROBLE!

  • Stephen Fry isn't the only one who got a hardon.

  • 41:44

I had to do a presentation about that in college.

  • I wanted to give this a thumbs down, not because it isn´t brilliant, but just to see what reactions I would get, but I just couldn´t do it.
