I think there was some inspiration from Prozakc Blues, which is in 5 time, to use blues chord sequences in an unusual time signature. The time signature of Mauves and The Great Pain is 13 (or six then seven). There is a neat part about half way through the Great Pain section where the guitars are circulating (playing alternate notes) which is made even harder by the odd time signature.

This song rocks! It reminds me a lot of King Crimson's "Prozakc Blues". Not to say you copied them, but they're both whacky blues songs.
