this reminds me of "two funerals", my favorite piece of all time from the show. i love the way the military aspect of bsg really grounds it and this happily reminds me of it
@ActuallyLiam I think broadcasts outside in the UK/Australia used the sutra version from the start...because I've never heard this either. The other theme is much more intriguing.
The UK version seems better to me. In my opinion: This version makes it seem a bit....action heavy. Now while there is a fair bit of action in the series, it's really more character and struggle based.
I've never heard the US version until today, and I LIVE in the US. Haha, but I started watching BSG after it ended so the only way I could watch it was on BBC America, which explains the UK theme.
...I don't frakking believe this. I've been watching the UK version this entire time! O well. I just ordered the american Dvds so that should be fixed. totally worth the $150
After just finishing the entire series on netflix in about 3 weeks, I'd say I love the UK version A LOT more. It gives the show a more cosmic/supernatural feel, which is really what the show was more about.
I think they use the US version just because the people in the US (me included) are more used to seeing military type shows because everyone's so "rah-rah" about them.
I agree. For me, the US version had an immediate post 911 feel about it. The further away from the destruction of Caprica the series went, the more fitting the UK version became.
@gorshev Both are great as a sound but the US is loosing the point. The BSG isnt about the military but for the journey. So i am with your friends side that UK theme is better.
@gorshev That's what i keep saying. Personally i like the UK Version, for the same reason you said. Battlestar Galactica was always about the crew, the people, the bonds...not necessarily the war.
Agreed. This is posted elsewhere and I said that I like this theme better. Way more intense. The first part is darker and more foreboding and the drums go longer in the second part.
An aside. If you watch the Call of Duty World at War trailer, it looks awfully similar to BSG's opening. Guess someone over at Treyarch is a fan!
I originally liked the US theme better but both themes grew on me and I like 'em equally more or less now lol.
Does the Call of Duty World at War trailer have a bright flash from a nuclear explosion in a similar context to the season 1 intro? Because that's the one scene in the intro that really shouts "battlestar" to me.
Funny you should ask. The event in the trailer that transitions from the slow stuff to the quick with the ensuing drums is in fact a bright flash from a pop up flare that someone sets off.
Now all rise to the BSG Anthem...

I use to love the original UK theme more, but this version has really grown on me over time and now I love both versions equally. =)

Wait, isn't the UK version the theme song for BSG when it airs in the US? I've never heard this version.

I do prefer this title theme. It's spiritual and military at the same time. I think the snare really adds to it. IMO

I liek both themes. They both remind me of the epic series and give goosebumps.

@HomieG75 you do realise they only use this theme for series 1?

Hmmm, this is not the version that plays on Netflix. Gotta say I like the UK better.

I think the US version really embodies the military aspects of the show, while the UK/Normal Version embodies the journey of Galactica and her crew.

That's a nice way of putting it actually. I love both themes while one of my friends only likes the UK theme

Regarding the US theme, I did some research and found out it's actually taken from part of Zak Adama's funeral.
At 2:37 of the track "Two Funerals," you can hear it.
With it's origin in mind, the US version really *is* a military theme. : p

agreed , both versions are still good though
wingman552 2 years ago
@gorshev Yes, but this tune was used before the episode was aired, and that song was adapted form this theme actually.

I definitely prefer this version over the UK (aka "real theme").
I like the other, but this one gets me pumped to watch the show. The UK Main Title just kind of lures me...but doesn't convince me to continue.
