I wonder why they decided to release Wages of War instead of Shadows of Darkness as they originally advertised.
THese games are great. Y'know, they released a bunch of collections for Sierra's various "Quest" games not that long ago that you can still buy today. I wonder why they did not include the Quest for Glory nor the Conquests of series.
The official reason was that the Coles thought Shadows of Darkness would be too difficult, especially since you start it without your equipment. Wages of War has the Simbani village as a very explicit training area intended to boost the hero's abilities.
I forgot to mention that in the same interview where they gave that explanation, they also said that after they introduced Rakeesh and Uhura they realized that they wanted to tell a story about their homeland as well.
This is one of the best endings ever...from all the different ways to break into the palace and confront Ad Avis, to bringing Raseir back to like, to the huge ceremony in the ending...and that peaceful version of the Quest for Glory theme in the credits is always a tearjerker for me.
I had always thought that you had to get a maxed out score to get the sword from Rakeesh. I had done this only a few times, but In any event it didn't matter if you imported your character into the third or the fourth or fifth you could just lie and say you were a paladin or any other class and it would take your word for it. It's a shame they don't make these interactive fiction games anymore.
Nah, I think you just have to have high enough honor. Raising honor is kind of annoying, if I remember right, so it's kind of nice they were nicer about it here (the Chieftain in QFG3 siphoning your honor without stop anyone?).
LOL Quest for Glory, even when it was known as Hero's Quest and the earlier ones required typing...they do not count as "interactive fiction" You're confusing Sierra with Infocom. :-P
I remember our first computer and I remember my mom used to play a game where there weren't any graphics just a text driven game. But for me if the game had a parser then I consider it interactive fiction. soooooo why don't you just shut yo mouf.
And as far as maxing out ones honor I've done that dozens of times and still not gotten the sword from rakeesh. I'm thinking there were different max points for each character class. I am huge dork.
This is by far the best game ever made, I was talking to some friends recently about it and I searched on Youtube and sure enough here it is. I don't know if any of you have played 3 it shows you the ways to "kill" Ad Avis in the beginning depending on which class you pick, when Aziza is talking to you, to bad he was actually not only a psychopath but a vampire. This is by far the best ending.
The rationale was that Shadows of Darkness would be too hard for the Hero just out of Shapier. So you were supposed to get toughened up in Tarna, they had a bunch of convenient training stuff in the Simbani village, in addition to the other stuff you could do.
Wow... I've never actually climbed INTO the tower before... I think I just threw a rock at the candle from the outside. XD So it was really weird when I played the 3rd game because it had a little "flashback" of this scene and I was like, "Wait, that's not what happened..."
Hahahaha, you must have been a thief then! :D They're the only ones who don't go inside the tower. Hahaha the flashback in QFG3 is...not very accurate most of the time. XD
Actually I think I was a fighter... hmm. Maybe I was just too dumb to think of the correct phrase that would actually allow me climb INTO the tower, so I gave up and started throwing things instead. XD I should play it again and see what happened.
If you were a fighter...hmm. Well, actually, if you had the rope or Levitate, then went up the side of the gate, through the harem, and ended up outside the tower, you could potentially end up outside and able to throw a rock rather than going through the inside. Hmmm.
Yes, that's what I did. I went through the harem and outside, then walked across the rope, ducked the spells that were cast at me, threw rocks at the candle, and then threw a dagger at Ad Avis. That "Ibis" thing never showed up either.
Er, being a thief to make cash, I mean. Shapeir is practically dry, in tarna it's dishonorable, and I never got to try the other two, but it doesn't seem to great in 4, either.
What are you talking about, there's some great houses to rob in Shapeir! And the drum sequence in Tarna is something at least. The Thieves Guild in 4 is pretty sweet, and there's some good house robbing in that one too.
Did you drop your shield to cast magic while fighting? I found that if you do you can't do a lot of fighter things no matter what else you do.

Funny. I remember doing the ending every way with one fighter who could multi-task.

Heh, so a design flaw resulted in a more elaborated-on story? Fascinating.
Now THAT'S the game design of old. How I miss it...

There's a great reference to that Laibon bug in QFG5, for those that missed it. Click look on the wooden throne in the Adventurer's Guild.

Actually, the reason you can't finish it as a fighter is not because you know magic.
It's because you did the WIT test. You can still have magic as a fighter to finish it but you can't do WIT.
xarcosis 4 years ago
Is THAT it? :O I had no idea! Dang, in the future I'll have to remember that, I thought it was just magic in general.
Darn, WIT is so much fun to do though.

Hahahaha, you went the thief way then. Only thieves are supposed to go that way! XD But the rope makes things so easy.

I actually always preferred being a fighter/thief. Easier to make money, at least in the first game. Too bad it's TOTALLY USELESS in later ones! :(

Thieves did kind of get the shaft in 3 though.
