I finally made some tests in daylight. What can I say? I can only say: wow, the cam is incredible in daylight! Now I need to buy a robust computer in order to start editing.
For now, I only have an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 1.8 GHz, 751 Mb Nvidia Geforce 7000M, 2gb ddr2.
I just bought the PAL SD700 today. I only reached home at dark. I made some indoor tests with it. In low light it is very bad (lots of noise, lack of colours, lack of resolution/sharpness)... I' gona test it tomorrow in daylight.
@robblac I tried both manual and auto. Not such a big difference in this evening indoor light. Manual focus, manual Iris, manual shutter speed, manula wb. What else can I do? It is a small cam, so I do not expect very good low light footage. I'm not surprised, I was expecting at this. I'm looking forward to test it tomorrow in daylight.
@robblac - indeed, you are right. I will go for the PAL SD700 even if, here in Romania, it is about 1150 $ (700 sterling pounds) and the NTSC SD 600 was 399$ (250 sterling pounds). Anyway, this was a hard choice considering the price difference. But, at least, I will buy the accesorries bunch from US :) Have a good night!
@robblac - Roger that! I'm still thinking at the best option I have. You are right in all ways. Other people said same thing. Yes, I need to go serious about this... The only thing I don't like in the 700/600 series is the low light noise. I was close to a sony cx550 because of this but I mainly need to shoot in daylight.
Between PAL and NTSC, when rendering the 50/60p footage for 720/24p, isn't the same thing/result? What's your oppinion?
@viforata as for low light noise, you have to consider what you will acctually be using the camera for... will you really be doing much filming in low light ? in any case i think the low light on the sd700 is pretty good, all things considered it it by far the best camcorder on the market. you should defo buy Pal as you are europe, it simply makes things more tidy, this has been dissgused at length on the forum ( avforum) its all to do with the natrual signal of your country 50Hz and 50p (fps)
@robblac - Tks for your fast reply. In the meanwhile I found that, on amazon.com, you can find the lower features versionat 399 $ (sd600- same thing but no manual ring, manual settings are doable by the touchscreen, no viewfinder, no ext. mike input) and I think I'm gone buy that one because HD makes NTSC and PAL differences irrelevant, only frame number difference. What computer would I need for no headacke editing/rendering?
@viforata the manual controle ring is vary handy, as is the mic input, i would say invaluable if you get serious you might regret not going for the 700..as for pc, at least a quad core with min 1gb grafix card and 4gb ram.. better go for amd , more bang for your buck.. get a hex core (6) if you can afford it. my advise is, but the propper model for your country as frame rate will make a difference when editing etc. things like strip light etc can "pulse".
@Begbucks thanks, this video, it was a while a go and was my first with the SD700, in my later videos i often use an SGBlade 35mm adapter to give a shallow depthg of field, check out carbeth 2010 video or The old boys and Their toys video.
Thanks for the adobe format link. Just got this unit two weeks ago and converting m2ts files seems 2b difficult. Any other tips with this camera adobe cs4/cs5 send me a msg. Great shots by the way this unit it Tony The Tiger Grrrreat!!!!
@bencloudedits thanks, my panning is not too steady but i just got a manfrotto 701hdv video head for the tripod, cant wait to give it a go, but the weather up here is good for ducks at the moment.
What editing software did you use ? The camera produced a mts file . What is the file format your editing software produced ? Was it the format you uploaded the video ?
@Spiciu I use adobe premiere cs5, the output from that was an mp4 as i chose the output as a H.264 with mp4 multiplex at 50 fps, most importantly though, the bitrate output was set to a variable bite of 20( target) max 26, andd pass 2, ( the bitrate settings is what controlls how smooth the video will be, if i go much above these settings it is jittery, if i go much below, the quality suffers to badly..i then uploaded it straight as the mp4. , hope that helps
@Spiciu note, in order to edit at 50p, you have to make your own Desktop editing preset , but its easy enough, look in the description, i have added a link to adobe forums site showing you how to do this.
Looks excellent quality, here, to me. Thanks for posting this ans 500 more points for saying the settings

@viforata think you just need to practice, simply switching it to manual wont fix it, you need to play with the settings

Excellent footage. I am looking to buy one these days.
Is this the full quality edited footage or it is diminished by youtube codec?
viforata 1 year ago
@viforata thanks, the original footage is much better than this, but youtube does not a bad job considering.
you will not regret buying the sd700, just make sure your pc is up to editing 50p footage.

Do they sell this in the U.S.? Everything seems to point to the U.K.
Looks like all I found was PAL.. WTF?
Camera image quality looks badass.. I would rather buy the SD-700 so I should be able to save money not buying the HDD or internal flash versions.
SYKOK1LLER 1 year ago
@SYKOK1LLER yes, you can buy it in the U.S, it is 60 in NTSC
I bought the sd 700 for the same reasons.. cant have a hard drive failure if there is not one there.
