Easy, just do what I did; on arriving at the foot of the climb, look up, take a deep breath, get off your bike, and walk up. Only hill so far that has broken my will for any climbing attempt . Walking up it was hard enough in cycling shoes. The descent was no easy effort either. One day, with more gears to drop may help (but I doubt it)
Hopefully under 12hrs with ret stops. I be just happy to complete it really and not suffer the indignity of being swept up by teh broom wagon. Theres is a midway cutoff point of 12:00 noon; 50 miles in, so plan an early start of around 6:00am to have the best chance of making it past the midway point.
How on earth anyone manages to tackle Hardknotts with that many miles in their legs is just beyond me!
