i was told the largest ship ever made was the one hitler built i forgot the name but it was destroyed by a pilot who by accident missed the ship and hit the rudder and was then hunted down by american and english ships
@mnAudio bismarck was over the way over the weight limit allowed for battle ships. It was the biggest built by germany and any other european power. Great ship it was.
@insane569 It was definitely a great battleship, not arguing with that at all, and yes it was the biggest ship of any European power, but that's not what I said, I just said it wasn't the biggest :) Could you explain what you mean by "weight limit allowed" though? I don't see how there is an allowance to battleship weight.
@mnAudio During the war there was a weight limit for warships. The Bismarck was over the limit which is why it was so big. If they followed the limit it would have been way smaller. I remember seeing this in a documentary awhile ago. Can't remember which. I'll see if I can find it again.
@mnAudio To answer your question, you would need to research (easily available) the "Washington Naval treaty of 1922 (also called the "Five powers" treaty, and it's subsequent upgrades of the 30's.
@mnAudio He's actually pointing on the limitations on battleships posed by the Peace Treaty of Versaille. According to this treaty Germany was not allowed to build ships with more than 10.000 tons. A limitation that became obsolete with the neginning of WWII.
Took me ages to work it out but the tune at the very begining (also pops up in D-day to berlin) is called "Gloryland" by Henning Lohner and can be found on "Extreme Music" :)
Thankyou very much to everyone who gave the name of the soundtrack in question, i've obtained an example & intend to use it for my upcoming Videos on Naval History/Engineering.
What i should have also done though is ask for the Soundtrack used from
0:01 - 1:20 (as it's the one of only two remaining soundtracks from this series i'm yet to find, the other being the one used in the last 45 seconds of the Great Eastern episode itself).
Anyone know the names of either / or both of these last two?
Steve Jablonsky (he of Transformers fame) is credited with composition for this series but this particular piece doesn't sound like what he wrote for it.
@TSR1989FF unusually, there was not a composer engaged for this series, so the music was derived from many different sources.
the track you have indicated was from a specialist film & tv music label: "Extreme Music", under a brand called "directors cuts" and from memory i believe the CD was "epic themes". you should be able to look up Extreme Music on t'internet if you're interested and download the full track.
@TSR1989FF I also wanted to know for a long time what the soundtrack was, because it was such a fantastic theme which fitted the series perfectly. It is Steve Jablonsky's Trailblazing
@TSR1989FF Just to clarify what other people have said, I am unsure if the music was made for the series, but it is the only obvious use of the piece, it is NOT, as some people have said, from the Pearl Harbour soundtrack, although it is indeed called Trailblazing by Steve Jablonsky
However, the title of the music and the fact it appears in all seven episodes at several points leads me to believe it was composed for the series
@TSR1989FF if you look further into the comments you'll see that it's been answered already. But I'll tell you anyway, it's Gloryland By Henning Lohner!
