Also. To sum it up. The last n/a engine BMW made had almost 700hp in mclaren f1. And almost 20 yrs ago. Merc make all that power and yet BMW m outperforms or keep with it. Case in point have merc build 6l and BMW build 6l engine and I promise you BMW will trump. Merc used forced inductions up untill the 6.2 to keep up with BMW. Now because of regulations they have to force induce because of the number territory comp is in. Who will buy a BMW that gets 8mpg cause that's what it will have to make

From my recollection in which I followed these cars for over 20 yrs I own a s550 and a 2005 m5 they are in competition it takes more know how to extract big power from smaller engines. This is recipe Ferrari and BMW have in common. A true engine builder doesn't result to displacement

All this bickering it's clear who has better engineering. 4.0 vs 6.2 displacement. 414hp vs 454hp. And lets not mention torque. The AMG only achievs a few tenths of a second in which the numbers are fantastic. Simply look at specs. And common sense. If the BMW had just .5 little more displacement it would out perform the 6.2. BMW do and always make a better engine period

If the Beemer wanted to increase its displacement to compete with the marc, it would have to sacrifice something else or fall out of its intended niche. Without its ratio of power to handling etc it wouldnt be defined as an M3, just a merc in a different badge. So on that level it is pointless to compare: designed to be different

You need the Performance pack on the C63 with the active Diff and the brakes upgrade and the extra 38bhp - it will rip the M3 apart even in the corners - the diff makes soooooo much difference!

Both are great. The boy racers are forgetting the key thing here - whats the better track car? Obviously the M3, on the strength of this test. But if you're not intending to do track days, then having tested both, the C63 is the better everyday proposition. Sounds nicer to my ears. Much as I love M3s (have owned 2 E46s before), everyone's got one, so the C63 is the better bet. Damn well hope so....I've just ordered one. However, BMW much better to deal with than Merc - they are SO arrogant!

Well, it looks and sounds far more aggressive, it's more powerful, faster to 60 and I much prefer the interior. Ok, so I could go faster in the m3 ona track... But when will I ever use it on a track!!

Not only is the C63 more comfortable on the roads, but if any car is gunna take you on the drive of your life its definitely not the M3, that goes to the C63. M3 may be quicker around the track and thats because it has superior handling due to its almost perfect weight distribution. Thats what M cars aim for, but AMG's are MUCH more fun to drive, on city streets, country roads, tracks, or any other road for that matter.
