AK47's are accurate if you know how to shoot a full auto gun & they can opperate in almost any condition, The gun can be caked in mud & shoot with out a problem the damn gun saved my life twice because it can do that, try that with your AR-15, I wouldn't because it was considered unsatisfactory in mud and sand. The AK47 is still the most popular full auto in the world & Suited for any enviroment Period.

Weaponry plays the most important role in any short or long term survival situation, especially urban. A Firearm can guarentee you food, water, shelter, warmth, transporation, currency, etc... Lets see your 50lb bag of rice do that.

It's every man for himself in any sort of survival situation. People will not hesitate to lie, cheat and kill to get the resources they need. The best offense is a good defense, and a good defense starts with an AK47.

But why don't you 1st start stocking up on food now. 2nd know your surroundings and where other rescources are available in your area. 3rd get to know your neighbors and the people around you and build up relationships with them. Yes, I base most of my survival plans on being properly armed... and why is that? Urban survival isn't a joke, and it sure as hell isn't pretty. Watch the L.A. riots, and you've got a good visual for every major city.

Correctly appyling practical wepon/urban warfare knowledge is key to keeping yourself and loved ones alive. Being able to move swiftly and securely at a moments notice is crucial. Not everyone will stay in there homes with their rice stock pile, they'll be coming after yours.

1st. I've got a decent supply of canned foods to last me until further action is needed.

2nd. Where I'm at, it is no more that a 20 minute drive/ one day hike from ample fresh water/ year round prey animals. I'll only temporarily be in my home state, until the trek to the NE Arkansas Ozark Mts. is fesiable.

3rd. My close friends and I already have a "game plan" for when SHTF. Central meeting location, communications, security, etc...

Anyone counting on going out and living in the wilderness is fooling themselves. If everyone who says thats what they are going to do does it there won't be enough game to feed them all. Those who were prepared didn't have the problems of those that didn't prepare with food and water. Its more than just grabbing your gun and going Commando. One small note. The hollow handle "survival knife" is considered no good by some. BUT I have come to like mine. Dont store cord and/or string in the handle. I wrap the outside of the handle with paracord. Glue one end at hilt with superglue and wrap tightly to the other end and superglue it to handle. Cut glued ends if you have to or pry loose. Put fishing kit in handle and waterproof strike anywhere matches or flint and strike with blade for fire. Maybe carry a "bone saw" in kit to cut wood.

Also, brown rice is the absolute worst for long term storage...brown rice is brown because it still has the hull on it...this hull contains natural oils which will cause the rice to start to decompose after 6 months to a year...properly stored white rice can last 15-30 years.
