@seeingsounds - The first time I ever decide to look up progressive metal, and I land on this video. And I have to say I'm pleased, cause this is some badass music.
Guys wow! search "Thorns Of Eleven". It's a band. Black Atom Reign. It's a live studio video of a song off of their just released first EP.Very talented and musically gifted!! THEY NEED TO BE HEARD!! SERIOUSLY!!!
@DeadOnNight I'm sick of faggot posers like you. Pop doesn't affect metal, at all. Instead of "unite", we should kill the faggot posers that are killing metal, crap like deathcore, nu metal, metalcore, depressive black metal and christian black metal ARE KILLING METAL.
@FerchoH4x This is ridiculous. First of all I'm impressed that you called me poser that easily since you don't even know me. Unlike you, i'm not here to insult people or spread hate around youtube.
I LIKE MUSIC, and with that I mean ALL MUSIC STYLES, which is the reason why i'm a prog fan.
If you don't like "Deathcore, Nu Metal, Metalcore, Depressive Black Metal and Christian Black Metal", that's OK for me. I don't really care what you like or not.
@DeadOnNight I like Nu, some deathcore (very little), Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, etc. And I love Prog metal. Im just saying this to support the whole liking all types kinda statement you made :)
another thing is this style is too technical. they seem to focus more on making really complicated riffs and yeah it sounds hard to play, but hardly good. like van halen, sure he can shred, but shredding like a god means nothing if it doesn't sound cool. idk i guess i'm just bored with most of todays music. i'd like to hear more prog metal/rock like Opeth, BTBAM and Coheed & Cambria. i fucking love those bands.
@VivaEmptiness420 #7 on the list, Andromeda, they're a good band. They have a lot of catchy keyboard solos and the guitar riffs are for the most part pretty cool. The drum patterns aren't too hard to play, unlike most other prog-metal bands. So if you haven't checked out Andromeda already, I suggest you do.
i don't really care for Dream Theater. i guess i just don't like synth.. most of this is ok. Blotted Science seems pretty cool. i just downloaded their stuff. i guess i just don't like this style of prog metal. the vocal style of these bands is too... idk... it's like that whole 80's hair metal style.. i really don't like that. the first band is good though. guess cuz it doesn't have vocals or synth. lol
some really cool bands man..i just hate when bands try to sound like dream theater and say that they are progressive..its like comon thats not bieng progressive thats actually pretty recessive
If you're going to put Spiral Architect, where's the band they got their name from? Psychotic Waltz is like the father of prog metal, or at least its awesome uncle.
Very nice compilation. I would have liked to have seen some newer Progressive bands like Between the Buried and Me and Veil of Maya. I know this video is 2 years old now but still most of these bands are pretty old. The new generation of Progressive Metal bands just blow my mind, but where would they be without all of these bands in this video? Anyway, I know I already said it but this is a badass compilation.
I like Alex Skolnick, he's such a nice guy. I used to live right above his teaching studio on Cedar Sreet and had to hear him teach kids to play "Come As You Are" all day, every day for about a year. . . . . which sucked!
Sorry to say, I don't like any of the bands or songs on this video, it's just not my thing. Alex is really cool though.
@awesomepat96 It's a sort of mix between progressive rock, like Pink Floyd, Rush, Porcupine Tree, etc, and Metal, like Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Stratovarius, etc ...
It's a heavy type of progressive rock if you like. :)
Good stuff. I'd only have added in some Sieges Even. And Thomas Miller played the bass on Symphony X's "Pharaoh" and you left out the magnificent Mark Zonder on drums for Fates Warning(though sadly he IS now gone).
Probably because they're heavily influenced by Death Metal, where as most of these bands are Jazz, Heavy Metal, or Power Metal infused with/influenced by.

@metalalvich
The new Angra CD Aqua is progressive in some Songs
Also the New Solo CD of Kiko Loureiro is very progressive its called Fullblast
Angra is my Favorite Power Metal Band with progressive elements
Zappafan1980 6 months ago
@Zappafan1980 angra is one of my favorite bands, temple of shadows is my favorite album
and yeah i love the kiko loureiro solo discs the universo inverso uff that one is crazy not metal though
and is it me or aqua is softer than the other albums??
metalalvich 6 months ago
@metalalvich
I still need to Buy universo inverso : )
I think Aqua is a very hard album its only the 3 ballads that make it so soft
But it has some of the heaviest song i know of angra on it
My favorite Angra CD is Aurora Consurgens, its just so overall great
But i also like Temple of Shadows A LOT its very Power Metal ish and has amazing Riffs and guitar solos

Hey fellow metalheads.
Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan
1.Don't bash other metal artists, we need to unite. We cant fight against mainstream music if we arent even together
2.Watch more and other metal videos to get it to the top of the youtube vid list
3.Instead of bashing pop, promote metal with logical reasons, not just "METAL RULES!"
If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea
