  • what kind of tank

  • It was to detach something, I don't remember what it was for though.

  • This is an HE round, 125mm

  • @adrastea99 I agree, it looks like the soviet gun barrel, not the rienmetal gun

  • 120mm... only the russians use 125mm

  • Yeah, this is a Russian cannon. Look at the heat sink, it's far forward. T-80 2A46 gun by the looks of it firing a 3VOF36 test round with six fin stabilizers, much longer than the 22.

NATO rounds have eight shorter fins and the guns have heat sinks near the middle. For a Rheinmetall 120mm gun, the heat sink is basically touching the assembly and the round looks nothing like a DM12A2 which has eight small mortar-like fins.

  • @adrastea99 What is a DM12A2

  • @ihateforigners

    120mm HE ammo

  • I wonder what would happen if one of those rounds went flying through a procession of Hamas mourners.

Maybe classical chaos? Like there is a stampede and the coffins are dropped with one or two jumping in the coffin for cover?

  • smokering ftw

  • sabot or not sabot one thing is for sure tho, its bad ass!!

  • @jemhson missile

  • you're all fuckin liars - that aint a SABOT round - you nobs

  • a sabot isa casing around the projectile. i dont think that all sobot rounds are the same. like a shell could have a sabot but not be the one meant for penetration

  • Haha that was a waste of about $10000, warfare is such as waste. And the world asks "why are we so poor"

  • That is human nature. Cannot be avoided. Might as well have weapons to protect your country rather than just sitting by and having your country invaded with no recourse for the invading army.

  • Yeah, they could have purchased about 10 mid range PCs for african kids.

  • Hohohooo nice 1 hi five

  • didnt the sabot that thing that makes the round travel faster while it inside the barrel? am i right?

  • No. The sabot is discarded after leaving the barrel.

It is made for shooting a lower caliber projectile in the cannon. Less mass, more speed.

  • ahh ok i get it.

  • A sabot round is a metal spike, the sabot centers and seals it in the barrel, then falls off.

  • SABOTs are Depleted Uranium or Tungsten Steel pins/staves, so how can this massive steel round ever be a SABOT?

  • You're right. This isn't a classical sabot round because it hasn't a discarding sabot. It's a special KE round.

Sabot/kinetic energy rounds are made of depleted uranium (DU), tungsten steel, wolfram or wolfram carbide by the way.

  • Thats what 88mm round? Sabot rounds will punch thru the earth and come out in China. 27000 kms a sec? The disgarded sabot parts can take out vehicles by themselves if they are to close to the tanks gun while its being fired.

  • ahahah lol unless if your in china already...

  • 120mm round, That tank is either the Leopard 2 or M1A2, judging by the barrel. Both the German Leopard 2 and American M1A2 use the same exact L55 cannon.

  • Thats not a sabo man. Did you see 3 pieces fly off? Ive seen WW2 tanks fire there guns countless times thats an 76mm i beat my life on it. M4 Sherman tank most likely.

  • The new SABOT rounds actually has 4 stages in which includes pieces as you say "Flying Off". So it might be. Or yet it is a Tank Shell

  • I was refering to standard NATO sabot rounds. Theres allways something new coming along in weaponary. Im sorry if its 4 stages now.

  • thats possible... but how come we cant see the camera itself as the mirror move if the mirror is in front of it. Nootson08's comment make sense too. Maybe superman is the camera man ehehehehehe...

  • It would actually make more sense to take a high resolution camera and not have to move it at all, and just use video editing software to zoom in on the round as it passes by. but that's just my 2 cents

  • my i has been opened...

    89

  • What kind of tank this is? It looks fake.

  • t-90 and the missile is "refleks" - tank gun guided system. in russia use only.

  • OK cause I thought they were trying to say it was a Sobot round

  • I wonder how the camera caught up with it its damn fast that shell.

  • Its a super uber huber high speed camera.

  • good

  • im just wondering what will if that thing explodes in a person's face...

  • what do you think

  • I found a video that will clear it up for you. watch?v=yOCf5XxkdC8

  • ahahaha! whos that? is that a character in tom and jerry?

  • No idea where it came from really. I typed up the sentence first and then looked around hoping to find an old Tom&Jerry or Looney Tunes clip with an exploding cigar or something funny.

  • I remember hearing something about how those things are so hot when they come out that the metal is actually in a molten state you just cant really tell

  • Thats an EFP youre mentioning...

  • The camera is not being guided by anything, it is already set up, they are simply zooming in on the projectile. For one most high speed cameras are high definition for obvious reasons and because of the zoom you can see pixletion; simple.

  • I do think you are wrong, since than why isn't the round in the center of the video all the time? It also doesn't explain the shaking of the camera at the end.

Also it looks like we're viewing the roud from a different angle at the end, but I guess that that doesn't rule out your explanation.

But I do think the camera or a mirror in front of it is rotating.

  • congrats that's where your tax money go.

  • im in raf i friend got badly injured from crash

  • by the way about filming that thing... someone told me that that the camera is guided by some sort of a laser thingy...

  • Either the cameraman was The Flash himself or that has to be the fastest camera ever created in the UNIVERSE! I mean wow. With all this new film technology you cant believe everything you see on TV.

  • its a lazer guided camera! they point the lazer at the exite of the canon, and as soon as the ammo "cuts" the lazer, the camera falows it! and its worst with newmatike pistons!!!

  • Where on earth did you get that and how did you know the company that makes it is called newmatike? What does the Z in laser stand for? I'm pretty sure the camera did not move at all and only the mirror in front of it did. From an engineering standpoint it would make sense to move a 1/2 oz mirror instead of a 10 pound camera.. They probably had this camera set to traverse the instant the cannon is fired and used knowledge and math to keep it centered on where the round is going to pass.

  • because i used them in the swiss army!!!

  • i like to think it was a camera man

gives me a little hope for the human race

  • its called a robot smart one

  • that camera man was awesome!

  • Nope, KE rounds are sub-caliber. a KE rod is 20mm in diameter and over 700mm long. This is about that long but its not sub-caliber. Its MPAT.

  • good camera man

  • high speed photography using a multi-spectrum light radiation detector, which is then imprinted on 3000 phosphor sheets per second. DUH dipshit doubters.

  • i mean really, that round went like 700 meters (2100ft) per second, how did the operator pan the camera?

  • your all wrong this is an experimental guided round with on board pc servos and jyro in order to correct its angle it was made for hitting targets on the move , almost like a tow

  • lmao how did u get that shot?????

  • MPAT

  • Thats no gas.. its air from the barrel being pushed out of it by the round at supersonic speed.

  • this is a kinetic round adapted for rifled barrels.the bits that are spinning are fitted on ball bearings to stop the round spinning in the barrel.note the gas leaking before it exits.

  • Its not a KE round. KE rounds are longer and obligatory subcaliber. This one can be anything else but NOT a KE round.

The fins are there to make the round spin, gives stability and smoother trajectory.

The APFSDS for rifled barrels dont differ much from the smoothbore ones, look the same for most ppl.

  • actually it could be ke round. yes, ke rounds can be really long; but they do make shorter

  • good observation. this is a modified sabot, stripping, fin-stabilised, KE round. modified for rifled barrels. gas leakage due to pressure loss around the rifling grooves.

  • we're on the same wavelength

  • My guess is: experimental laser guided HE-frag round

    (not really a guess :) )

  • could be, but its defo not a APFSDS.

  • Thats not a M829 (APFSDS) 100%. this round IS NOT subcaliber. its a 105/120mm round, APFSDS are ONLY 20-30mm in diameter and over 700mm long, this one isnt. They look totally different.

    I suggest its a Multi-Puropse Round.

  • I mean:

    *Multi-Purpose Round.

  • A 4000 fps high speed camera and a tiltable mirror close to the lens make it possible, cuz the mirror only needs to move just a little bit to pan the camera view a few hundred feet.

(if you are looking at a object thats a few hundred feet away...and you still have computer control over the camera and mirror so its not that difficult.)

  • It is very hard for me to believe the camera panned fast enough to watch an APFSDS round.

  • this shit is fake

  • fake haha, actually an experimental tank round that was deemed too expensive.

  • So if we have a 200 lb APFSDS travelling at 1850 m/s and a freight train moves at 30 m/s Max, We take the weight of the sabot ( 200 ) and multiply it by the number of times the projectile is moving FASTER than the freighter ( x50 ) So 200 x 50 = 10,000 We multiply this number again by 1.2 to adjust for variables in wind speed, distance to target, and trajectory angle, To determine that the Sabot round generates roughly the same amount of energy as a 12,000 lb vehicle moving at 30 m/s .

  • Godless,

    200lb sabot? LOL

KE penetrators wight between 4000 and 5000 grams, the whole round with propellant and casing weights ~25kg (~55lb). US APFSDS have a speed between 1560 and 1680m/s. APFSDS have a muzzle energy between 5 and 8 MJ (Mega Joules). Nowhere near a train at 30m/s. E=mv2, 5th grade physics, man.

BTW, the projectile in this video isnt a APFSDS. APFSDS are subcaliber projectiles (20-30mm in diameter), this one isnt.

  • APFSDS are fast because they are lightweight. Same gun, same propellant, but a 19kg HEAT round has a muzzle velocity of only 900m/s, while the 5kg KE rod a 1680m/s.

Neither the tank or the gun could be able to fire a 200lb projectile at hypervelocity. You would need 10x the propellant used, increase the barrel length at least 4 times to have at least a theoretical chance to do it, yet the gun would simply blow apart.

  • And the sabot aint the projectile either, it's the three little lightweight "petals" that make the rod fit inside the barrel.

Back in the old times, wooden sabots were used to make cannonballs fit their guns better too.

But yeah, that aint no APFSDS, looks more like an ATGM launched from a guntube, I'm guessing it's russian.

  • What is the little white ring we see near to the start?

  • smoke ring ejected from the neck of the 120mm smoothbore gun. The KE penetrator ( Armor piercing fin stablized discarding sabot ) or APFSDS, Moves at roughly in the areas between 1400 and 1850 Metres per second. You will never see a freight train moving more than 360 mph. So basically the train is moving no more than 20-30 metres per second. Therefore we can say the SABOT round will move roughly 50 times faster than the MAXIMUM speed of a freighter. The sabot weighs about 160-180-200 lbs

  • It is non explosive, and uses pure kinetic energy to destroy a target. Kinetic energy penetrator class weapon. APFSDS " Armor Piercing Fin Stablized Discarding Sabot "

  • thats huge!

  • its not an explosive munition. The weapon in the video is an Armor Piercing fin stablized discarding sabot round. Basically a giant metal spear, With a big plug around it to fill the unused space in the barrel. Its basically a gigantic bullet.

  • k thanks for the explanation but you seem to agree that its HUGE too. still a gaint metal spear......

  • for sure man, Its about the length of an average man's arm and about as wide as a flagpole. Wouldn't want to be anywhere near its target, The kinetic force behind it is equal to that of a freight train :)

  • thats insane!!

  • hahaha yea man, The coolest part about this video is its slow motion, So you can actually see the sabot break off the rod mid flight, Something you wouldn't normally get to see. It Disengages ( The sabot ) at about 0:12 That was what the flash was / all the stuff flying off the penetrator. For that to have been filmed is quite amazing.

  • yeah i wonder how they filmed that? its incredible! like lizzyAston said "what kind of bionic person was able to film that?" lol

  • Wait a sec it cant have that much energy, it would need to be going so ridiculously fast

    weight of train/weight of shell = x

x is how many times faster the shell is going than the train, and some of these trains can go pretty fast.

  • thats called technology.....

  • What bionic person was able to track that round and keep it on the camera?

  • yippie!!! arguing whats the best tanks with this arguements? ever heard about that rifled guns are not up to date any more? or that the abrams can shoot 100% accurate while moving with its GERMAN main gun? americans developed the 152mm, and then found out that its a piece of crap! used british 105mm before, now using german 120mm. seems as they can`t build own effective guns. the best tank in the world? perhaps swedish strvgn 122?

  • yea uaaa your a fucking retard the first one they made sucked then remington jumped in and got the spot and might i say remington is fucking american you fuck stain! WHITE POWER !!!!!

  • im talking about the company that developed this gun, not the one that bought the license and is now allowd to build them.every shitty toolfactory could do that. 120mm smoothbore has been developed by rheinmetall germany. thats a fact. abrams tracks come from germany, too. made by diehl. leopard2 is using some US- parts though, fire controle system from hughes for example. start to read books!

  • and everything electronic in the tank is made in china.. so whats ur point- do u feel special that a part of the tank is from ur country? if its cheaper to buy it elsewhere its the better solution. do u honestly belive the us government cant build the same weapon?

  • you are so right. was just trying to piss off this white-power idiot. i haven`t build any part of this tank, so why should i be proud of it? just hate this "america rules and will kick your ass" posts under every military vid

  • seems stupid for "white power idiots" to be proud of the military, since a huge part of the military is black and hispanic. ud think theyd realize that means the military is great because of black and hispanic people lol

  • You are right the US army has many races in it.

  • What is that phrase....a good soldier never relies on his equipment? British army rule =D

  • you are very ignorant they say a good soldier is one with their kit... so yeah

  • how the hell are you exposed to film that? rocket powered camera?

  • They use a High FPS camera - u can watch things in slow motion...it's really cool! =]

  • haha imagine seeing that (if you could) flying straight at you? haha

  • the British challenger 2 tank is one of the best... has a rifled barrel compared to the Yanks smooth bore. because at the end of the day they dont care what they hit.... wankers......

  • The leopard 2a6 pwns both,cha 2 and m1a2

  • tbrowniscool your a moron...Challenger 2 is big and clumsy while the Leopard 2 is the best tank in the world its proven.

  • i did say "one of the best" or cant you read...?

  • Tank ammo and Tank SHELLS are 2 different things.

  • or tank round.

  • Abrams is the best tank ever built.

  • M1A1 Abrams. Best tank, commanded by the best troops.

  • Name one othwr tank that can fire 100% accurate moving at full speed, other than the M1A1 Abrams. You cant, because there are none.

  • Damn right US of A M1A1 is the best tank ever.

  • Yes, there is another one.

    The Leopard 2.

  • I meant to say:

Yes, there is another tank that can shoot accurate while moving.

  • there are many that can shoot accurately while moving,in fact if you dont design tanks that way today consider urself fucked.

  • what is the best tank in the world? the A1 A2 abrams

  • M1A1 and M1A2 are the most experienced modern tanks. But as far as the best, well no one really knows until the tanks duel it out in the battlefield.

  • best tank in the world is the challenger 2

  • no I think its either M1A2 or Leopard 2 A6

  • or possibly the t-95 when its unveiled

  • how the hell did they follow that?

  • They use a high speed camera. Also with some mathematicall equations, they figure out the flight path of the round, since they know how fast it travels, the direction and whatever. Then they calibrated the camera to follow the round since both the camera and trigger are synchronized.

  • It's the same principle as a camera man tries to follow the baseball hit from a baseball bat and flew into the crowd. It's except the camera man here is a machine and at very high speed tracking. Tank round travels about 1 mile per second.

  • oh cool very interesting! :) thanks

  • they zoom all the way out so you have a huge picutre angle.

  • Aweaome

  • The best cameraman ever!

  • Where's the explosion?

  • This is only a test, to see how the round works and not the damage effect. You can see the round is colored black and white, easier to figure out it's movements. Real tank round will not be colored checkered black and white. It's a dummy round with similar weight and characteristics of a HE round.

  • Ahem...BOOOOOORRRRRINNNNNNGGGGG!!!!!! No offense.
