Wow. I can't believe the bad comments. This is a GREAT lesson, and you nailed it. And thanks for posting the lesson. It's the best lesson I've seen up here.
@kocnn WTF? That's me playing on my own! I guess I could take your comment as a compliment. Anyway, part 2 is now up so the whole lesson in youtube for free now. Lots of love. Matt
Hi Matt, I purchased this lesson last weekend. I'm a beginner (11 months) so I'm sure it will take me longer than most to learn this but I like how you've broken it down in sections and I'm particularly impressed with the camera angles. You have them arranged relative to the guitar player as opposed to an audience member. This is especially helpful to a beginner like me. Great cover by the way.
@matt301273 Sorry dude, I forgot to read the description box. I almost always do, but this time I didn't. But 8 Euros (12 Dollars) dude? Seriously? I sure hope it's worth it. I'll save this video to my favorites for future reference. I MIGHT pay for this lesson. Not sure.
@Guerrillablackdog Well you could always pay a private teacher £30 for an hour of tuition in which you might learn the beginning of this tune..Other people seem to think my lesson is worth it...just read the comments...But no pressure..It's not like I am making anyone buy it...
@matt301273 Okay, I got the lesson. I thought, "12 dollars isn't much, I'll try it." and it helped me a lot. Seriously dude. Great lesson. I can almost play the song 100% now. Sorry for for sounding like an ass earlier.
Or you could always invest in something like guitar pro, download a good tab and learn it yourself. Much better value for money. There are also other teachers on you tube that dont charge. Justin Sandercoe springs to mind as a very good instructor and a thoroughly nice guy!
I'm just pointing out there really is no need in this age of free flowing information to be paying for something that is free elsewhere.
That said Im glad it helped you.
I learned it from looking at various tab, listening to the record and figuring out which tab was closest. It also has the advantage of getting you to think about strumming patterns and to really listen what notes are being played.
As a learner myself Im concentrating more and more on the theory side.
I was intimidated by this song for quite a while and you made it extremely easy to learn, excellent tutorial, thank you. Any chance you'll do "going to california"? I'd spend $10 U.S. on that in a second and I know many others would too.
@71MARTIND28 I love Jimmy but hey we all know that Jimmy doesn't seem to have a problem with people "borrowing" other peoples music so why should he here :)
Downloaded this song from Matt's link, nailed it in about 2 hrs using his over the shoulder technique. After a half of day's practice was playing with the song from the CD note for note...You the 'Man' Matt!
one suggestion is to answer: how can i tune my guitar to this tuning without the video or a tuner. the second suggestion is to make the plucking instruction more explicit and integrate the tempo of the plucking in the practice stage utilizing the hi-e. i am practising (where base=a / base=e): base-123 but should i be practising base123, base-124 (hi-e) or is it base (a)-123, base(e) -1234 (hi-e)
i don't have a credit card but when i do for future reference if i ever want to get a lesson, will it automatically charge me the correct amount in dollars instead of pounds? although i think 7 quid is less than the dollar amount though haha...i can tell these would be well worth the money though. better than my 20 dollar half hour lesson that doesn't do this detailed and i can have this in my own home!
@desr2395 Hello. Yes it will charge you the same amount in dollars and yes, it is better value than a $20 half hour lesson. Could you send me a message with you email and we'll see if we can work something out. Peace. Matt
Nice job. You shouldn't have to defend charging for lessons. You're not a charity. I spent countless hours figuring out Page's licks long before the internet came around, and wish I had a resource like this to help when I got stumped. I still can't get The Rain Song, and I've been playing around 30 years.
Great song. As for charging for the lesson? Why not?!
First off, he gave you the proper tuning! Thats all you should need! So if you cannot learn from that alone, you shouldn't be playing guitar to begin with! I have been playing this for some 20 years because I have a good ear! You'll need one too!! NOW... if you really... really really want to learn? Pay or watch another video and try and pick it apart!
@matt301273 ignore them! the lesson its awesome, nobody forces you to buy it! so if u dont want to pay for it simply dont do it but dont post shity comments!!
thanks for showing the basics. it looks like a pain in the ass to learn, unless you are already used to finger picking. but it's a lovely jam. thank you for sharing.
@volcom6951 That's right. I want some money for my hard work. I can't see why anyone would find that strange. But don't worry. No one is putting a gun to you head to make you buy it. Look around. You might find a free lesson teaching this. I can't guarantee the accuracy though. But I DO guarantee the accuracy of my lesson.
@NicoleTangerine I am not forcing anyone to buy it am I? And it's only a fiver. That's the cost of what? A packet of cigarettes? This isn't some amateurish piece of crap. You get what you pay for. I diligently worked this out just like Jimmy Page played it. Not to mention the MONUMENTAL amount of time and money I've spent on creating the website. Plus I pay royalties. You work for free do you?
@matt301273 what do you think this lesson would cost at a guitar shop?
they charge an average of $20.00 an hr. to be able to have a video of a lesson like this for $5.00 is truly a steal. I'm sure it would take about a month to learn, if you were going for lessons once a week. that's $80.00-$100.00. & you don't get a video.you must consider how long it takes to learn this by tab, or by ear.But if this guy don't play it right, it's not worth $5.00.and if he does it's not worth $5.00,but much more
