This is too funny, I was looking at a 4 Track too, the first Portastudio from TEAC model 144 caught my eye on ebay, the most famous Portastudio record was Bruce Springsteen "Nebraska" which was recorded on the 144. Love the bad sound of tape some times
yea, the imperfection of the tape sound is actually WAY better than the modern digital 'fake' sound that is in rock and alternative music nowadays...nebraska sounds AMAZING, so raw and real...digital has ruined creativity, cus u can now mask shit songs with an 'epic' production
@tiddlywinks98712 I agree with you and that's why I have never sold this unit or my 8 track. I still have Type II tapes I've never used yet. The only advantage to digital is its convenience. If you record with good mic, a good preamp, and use a good tape deck and Type IV tape for the mixdown you can a very good recording that will rival what some people have down on their computers. However, I now live in Korea and all my stuff is in Minnesota. It's sad and I miss my analog equipment.
@vinyljunkie07 I've actually never thought these units sounded bad at all. I would use really good tube preamps and condenser mics and would get a really good sound when I recorded in Dolby which gets rid of the tape hiss. My vocals, bass and guitars came out really good and I would almost say better than digital in some ways. At least in terms of warmth. I use to show some people my recording with this particular unit and some people thought I went in to a studio and paid money.

What is the AX60 being used for, bassline?

@Chewbamma AX 60 is being used as a sequenced synth sound, not the bass or the pad, its the appregiated sound, in the higher octave range.
