@ComputerInfoChannel I sold my SSD's a long time ago. I'm thinking to get a new one. Not until 300-500gb are cheaper. I got myself stuck at 120gb. Even with my current 250gb HDD i get myself stuck.
Putting these SSD's in RAID is worthless TBH. The OCZ Vertex does not support TRIM when you RAID them together, so after a while they will slow down and any mechanical HD would be faster, do your research before you try this people.
@tupacole Yes and no.... But that was back then. Now i have an I7 2600 with 16gigs of ram. Happy now? If everyone would like me to review it, i will. Let me know if you're interrested.
Check my vid, it's an E8400 on an IX38 Chipset w/ onboard RAID... He's wrong about needing a controller card, raid 0 has NO overhead and the card would massively extend boot time, and increase the build cost by a major factor.
RAID is useless shit on SSD-s. I mean its the biggest fail of the decade.. if your RAID gets bout 50% full it will be slow as hell, and there is NOTHING you can do about it, AVOID SSD RAID AT ALL COSTS!!!
just found out with the new am3 mobo I got, my raid 0 WD's went from 150mb/s max to just over 200mb/s max. the min speed I get is 93mb/s on the very inner edge now! :D I figure with these babies, they're silent too, I'll only need to get a SSD in like 5 years when they've come down a WHOLE LOT in price. I'm thinking when they're around $80 for either a 120gb or 80gb SSD so I can get 2 in raid like I did with the WD's I have now
@SlappyHooper1982 its true they slow down after a while, but if you reformat them again, they will be fast again (as far i've read on the internet).
even though i also maxed out my onboard controller, almost 600MB/s. but i think it would be faster if i had an PCI-e sata controller. but it would be a waste, now i cant max it out.
also i've read that if you put the SSD's in RAID-0, the livespan shortens. it would die after 2 month's, but mine are already in RAID-0 since December.26.2009
@RaisorX but obviusly you buy it to use it, so yes I'll write a LOT of files, delete old files and write even more files. but I don't think the lifespan is shorten then any other drive on the market. and it's not like you gonna use it for life, maybe for 5 to 10 years.
Have you gotten a raid card at all. I'm in the mist of buying one along with 4 of the vertex turbo drives. Tryin to do some research to make sure my speeds wont get capped.
just curious i want to upgrade to a SSD but i cant afford multiples would it be any good to just get the 30gb for 64 bit win 7 and a extra i dont know 300 or 500gb 7200rpm drive for storage ?
30gb is way to smal for windows 7. i have a installation of Win7 Ultimate x64, and that takes 21,3gb of my SSD drive. if you looking at the kingston SSD drives, they have 64gb arround the same price as OCZ 30gb. but they are way slower with stransfer rate. but they are also good.
yea, i recommend you a big HDD for storage. i have a 1TB next to my SSD, and works perfect. if you have alot of files, i recommend you atleast 500gb, they arent expensive anymore.
@RaisorX when you say a bigger HDD for storage should i still get a SSD for my os? thats what i was hoping for if not that i was thinking of just getting velociraptor
SSD's are good for the OS, and especially for Win7. Startup/shutdown are way faster and programs starts faster. u just click a program, and its open immediately. there are some disadavantage's on the SSD. u have to change some settings in windows to save lifespan. like turning of the defragmentation. do not save to much on the SSD. save as much as possible on ur HDD. OH!! ur pc keeps silent when the pc is booting of the SSD, thats one thing i also like :)

sale your ssds and buy a force 3 120gb it costs you about 150 $ and is faster. 500/450 in most benchmarks

thats godly I cant wait for ssd's to drop prices but knowing how things work intel will keep the prices fixed :(

popothecatathome 2 years ago
it also says MTBF (Mean time between failure).
search on google what that is.
otherwise the SSD has a lifespan over 125 years.
it may life over 125 years, IF u dont write many files. and if you write alot of files to it, the lifespan shortens.
storage-chips has an unlimited times of reading, but an limited times of writing and cells are dying and become unusable.
The HDD has no write limits, then only the total lifespan.
SSD's are more trustable, cause there are no moving parts. no friction.
RaisorX 2 years ago

Btw. Nice Results!
Retoon41 1 year ago
@Retoon41 i dont write or delete alot of files. i have a normal HDD to save stuff, like my downloads.
But i have some heavy programs like adobe that takes some time to load with a normal HDD, and in seconds with SSD's.
i'm very happy with these SSD's.
i wont recommend them to everyone that only play games, but its fast with loading programs.
RaisorX 1 year ago
Any Idea of the average lifetime of an SSD?
Gortall 2 years ago
i dont know. it should take 50 years. but it depends on how you use the SSD.
In some servers they use SSD's drive, so that means that they must have a long lifetime before they die. longer then a HDD.

supersmashbrada 2 years ago
my raid setup is based on software from Nvidia MediaShield.
i'm waiting for a stable controller for SSD's.
most Raid controllers get unstable with SSD's cause they get hotter, then with regular HDD Raid's.
The "Adaptec Raid 5405" sounds great to me. but its pretty expensive, and need some good cooling. its supported for all OS's, up to Win7.
but it needs a battery to use the onboard ram, to prevent data loss while ur pc lost its power.
also the "Intel SRCSASLS4I" sounds sweet.
