@dolphinsneu i think it's because in 2002 we kind of 'backed in' to the round of 16. here, our fate was in our own hands, and with donovan's goal we went from elimation to winning our group.

@Kushsmoka420 I've been playing since I was about 5-6 as well. I have seen a lot more interest in the last 10 years though from the media. There's a reason why the term "soccer mom" came about. It's a perfect game for parents because there is a time limit. They know exactly when to pick the kids up and everyone gets to run as much as they want. It's a way better sport. As for advertising you are right which is why it's a perfect spectator sport from home.

Isn't it a bit much to say it's the 'greatest goal in US soccer history'? Maybe the best in terms of timing (a clutch goal), but I've seen "harder" goals made by US players in past games...
Sure I'm disappointed that the team didn't advance as far as I was hoping. But at the same time, looking at all the videos, I truly believe that the future of american soccer is bright. All you have to do is look around you.

Football (as called in Brazil) or soccer (as you call it) are attractive for the rest of the world with its 90 minutes. His top athletes are among the best paid in the whole planet and will be the highest paid football if someday become a sport of the art in USA.
if there was money in soccer in the US.... USA would be the number one team with the kind of athletes we produce... so many tallented students would be interested, we would have a roster like no other... the sad part is that the game is 45 minutes each quarter with very little room for commercials...and that's who pump in the money into the sport, and ultimately into the athletes.

Think Kevin Garnett at center back his height and jumping would make him invaluable for corners plus defending in football is very much like basketball defense in terms of footwork. Most Americans could very well be great footballers but they want to stay here, making big bucks. A high profile football league in the US could do alot for US soccer.

I'm happy the World Cup for the USA is over. IMO, our participation in the Cup erodes our uniqueness. Soccer feels so....'foreign'. Soccer isn't even in our Top 3 sports and I LOVE that about the U.S.. we are not like 'them'. I take pride in the fact that, unlike the rest of the world, we don't become hysteric, flag waving, crying maniacs over a soccer game. It's for the same reason we don't see flag burnings, mass protests, & parliamentary governments. It's because WE ARE UNIQUE.
Regarding my previous comment, these players have to try to play in Europe if they want to make any real money. I think the main reason football is not as big in the States is because we fought for our independence from England. We did not want to come hear and do things the English way. So we invented our own sports: American Football, Baseball, Basketball, among others. We are a nation of innovation and we have always done things our own way. So Soccer (football) decreased in popularity.
I disagree that most people in the U.S. do not like soccer. There is no nation on earth that has more organized soccer leagues. I played about 14 years from the age of 8 through college. The problem is that when I graduated college, there was no professional league to join and earn a living. This was before the MLS. Even with MLS, other professional leagues pay 20 to 50 times more (MLB, NFL, NBA etc.) so not many people want to play soccer professionally in the U.S.
Calling this the greatest goal in US soccer history is disgusting.

@dolphinsneu i think it's because in 2002 we kind of 'backed in' to the round of 16. here, our fate was in our own hands, and with donovan's goal we went from elimation to winning our group.

@Kushsmoka420 I've been playing since I was about 5-6 as well. I have seen a lot more interest in the last 10 years though from the media. There's a reason why the term "soccer mom" came about. It's a perfect game for parents because there is a time limit. They know exactly when to pick the kids up and everyone gets to run as much as they want. It's a way better sport. As for advertising you are right which is why it's a perfect spectator sport from home.

USA would be the number one team with the kind of athletes we produce... so many tallented students would be interested, we would have a roster like no other... the sad part is that the game is 45 minutes each quarter with very little room for commercials...and that's who pump in the money into the sport, and ultimately into the athletes.

Think Kevin Garnett at center back his height and jumping would make him invaluable for corners plus defending in football is very much like basketball defense in terms of footwork. Most Americans could very well be great footballers but they want to stay here, making big bucks. A high profile football league in the US could do alot for US soccer.

I'm happy the World Cup for the USA is over. IMO, our participation in the Cup erodes our uniqueness. Soccer feels so....'foreign'. Soccer isn't even in our Top 3 sports and I LOVE that about the U.S.. we are not like 'them'. I take pride in the fact that, unlike the rest of the world, we don't become hysteric, flag waving, crying maniacs over a soccer game. It's for the same reason we don't see flag burnings, mass protests, & parliamentary governments. It's because WE ARE UNIQUE.

Regarding my previous comment, these players have to try to play in Europe if they want to make any real money. I think the main reason football is not as big in the States is because we fought for our independence from England. We did not want to come hear and do things the English way. So we invented our own sports: American Football, Baseball, Basketball, among others. We are a nation of innovation and we have always done things our own way. So Soccer (football) decreased in popularity.

I disagree that most people in the U.S. do not like soccer. There is no nation on earth that has more organized soccer leagues. I played about 14 years from the age of 8 through college. The problem is that when I graduated college, there was no professional league to join and earn a living. This was before the MLS. Even with MLS, other professional leagues pay 20 to 50 times more (MLB, NFL, NBA etc.) so not many people want to play soccer professionally in the U.S.
