Always check to make sure your sample rate is matched with your program. This is not a driver problem. This sound can occur when the sample rate is different from your host. Hope that helps
MOTU makes some great products but drivers can be a pain to deal with, same with PreSonus......although in the end, Drivers are hard to make for a wide verity of computers.
I have the first generation Ultralite not MK3 and it did exactly same thing on PC - as soon as I upgraded to the latest firmware 1.15 it seemed to curb the issue. Give that a try.
On my UltraLite, along with this glitching/crackling bug, the LED backlight is flickering and on it's way out. This unit has very low hours.
It's done the same thing on several different computers, on every single driver version, and even though I always used the recommended TI chipset FW card. So it's definetely a crappy but very expensve product.
RME will be my next interface...MOTU is dead to me now.
my mkIII do sometimes similar noises. i find out that it is firewire problem. you should record it and use the noises for making music : )

OMG Motu sucks ass they have no made a driver for 10.6.4 and I highly recommend M-audio profire 610
