I don't hate black people but black people hate our culture and that bad , white culture should be respected ,like we respect the black culture we are all humains that the important think
I understand that the overall message of the film is anti-racist, but these blacks beat me up back in 89. I was the only dumbass white liberal in the theater. They beat the Democrat outta me that day. Ever since then I've got spooked of colored folks.
@CrazyWorld65 actually Bugging out is part Italian ( Bob Deniro is only half Italian like Bugging out) so his agrument fell apart. If Sal put Buggin Out on the Wall will Bugging stop his belly arching? I've been to many Soul food restaurants in White areas and many only have Black faces on the wall. Buggin's need to have a some chicken alfredo rammed up his ass.
@vigo894 Becuase it's "Italino" NOT latino. Should Mexican, etc resturants be forced to put non-hispanic White, Oriental , Black, etc Americans on the walls of their business?
@kevyster= Take it easy, I was just having a little fun. It's like, if Sal starts putting pictures of African Americans on the wall, then the Hispanics, Asians, and then the Martians will want their places on the wall as well.
@vigo894 Sorry got caught up in the moment. Sal was right to stand his ground. "Hey yo Slavia. Why ain't there no Italians on the Wall? Rocky, this is a soul food resturant. You want Italians go to Sal's Pizzeria in Bed Stuy.. Hey yo, I'm goin' to boyc. not eat here no more." Whatever Roc. Yo let's no eat at Slavia's no more. Rocky shut up. Even Adrian told you to knock it off. Roc, we grew up on Slavia's soul food. Those moolies make good food. Hannity, Beck and O'reily eat at Slavia's,
@wadereed27 You're right about Bird and Ruth. But I disagree about JFK. Go to a black owned establishment (owned by older black people), a picture of JFK is on the wall right along with MLK Jr.
@WizardOfHumor1989 Then go to a Soul food resturants. I don't bitch about Whites, etc not being on the wall at Black soul food resturants. Sal just put Bugging out on the wall since he's part Italian like Bob Deniro, so he shut his half Guinea ass up
I never understand why some people think Sal is innocent. It's not shown in the above clip but Sal was very rude to Buggin' Out through out the entire scene. He asked Sal a pretty valid question, Sal gives him a very rude response, Buggin' Out makes a fair argument and Sal responds by threatening him with a baseball bat.
@Zeeboe He grabbed the bat after Buggin Out threw the cup on the floor. Sal was the voice of reason throughout most of the movie. He showed his dark side at the end of the movie when he spewed out one racial slur after the other against Buggin Out and Radio Raheem. The racial tensions throughout this movie between all the different ethnic groups and Spike Lee did a great job projecting it. In the end, no one was right. That's why Mookie screamed HATE as he threw the barrel thru Sal's window
@daddymak9 - I think it was napkin he threw actually. I agree Buggin' Out started the whole thing and was very immature. I just think Sal acted like a bully a few times, but this is why it's called "Do The Right Thing" because no one does the right thing.
@Zeeboe You're right, it was the napkin. Like I said, Spike Lee did a great job in projecting the blatant as well as the underlying racial tensions between all the different ethnic groups. Who would have ever thought after the first 90 minutes of this film that it would be Danny Aiello's actions would have caused the riot that lead to someone's death? But I still can't understand why the neighborhood people were surprised that they called the police. What else would you do in this situation?
@Zeeboe The two most ironic things about this movie are One, that Buggin Out is half Italian, Giancarlo Esposito, and that John Turturro, who played Pino, is a personal friend of Jesse Jackson. I think he supported him in one of his presidential runs. Frank Vincent's cameo is also a classic scene.
@daddymak9 - Yeah, in real life it's a different story all together but there are real people out there like that. I've come across plenty of them....from racist and school-yard bully Italians to trouble-starting black power guys. Heck, there's been plenty of real violence between the two groups too.
I'm actually from the south and we in the south have a bad rep among the Yankees as being racist, but there is plenty of racism up North too and this movie proves that.
@Zeeboe You're not telling me anything I don't already know. In fact, as a " Yankee ", I feel that racism up north has gotten worse whereas the south has improved exponentially. This has to be the case when Barack Obama is president and won Virginia and North Carolina, something no other Democrat has done since LBJ. I have explained to my son over the years that racism doesn't end because there is a Mason Dixon line that borders North and South
@daddymak9 - Oh, that was not a diss. lol. I'm a Civil War buff and I am totally on the Yankee's side. :) I piss off all the racist neo-rebs on youtube.
I am glad you see my point though. There sadly are some very closed-minded Yanks that seem to think their pile of grass and dirt is better then mine and that's all this is. Piles of grass and dirt that someone gave a name too. People are people however and racism is a human thing sadly, not a region thing.
@Zeeboe No offense taken. I totally understood the point you were making. Crazy thing about the Civil War is that slavery was a microcosm of it. The issue was states rights and secession. Lincoln initially supported the right of states that already had slavery to continue to. He opposed any further allowance of slavery and we went to war because the south wanted to secede. I served with some of these neo-Rebels you mention. We have a litmus test on gays in the military, what about racists?
@daddymak9 - Well, Lincoln was anti-slavery and there's documents from the states in the south that say one of the reasons why they supported leaving the United States is because Lincoln was against slavery. Lincoln just felt that ending slavery in 1861 was beyond his control. He later did make an issue out of slavery in 1863 and changed his way of thinking, especially after he saw how hard so many black troops were fighting all so they could win their freedom.
@Zeeboe Lincoln was a fair-weather anti-slavery president. From what I understand, he was originally pro-slavery, but later changed his stance to appease the general public.
@Andrewwascool - Well, I've never read that before. Not even from some of the biggest Lincoln critics. I think it was the other way around actually. He would sometimes say racist or what could be consider pro-slavery remarks to please certain crowds, but that was earlier in his life. I believe as he aged, he matured and changed some of his views.
@Zeeboe Ran out of character counts. I'm more scared of the possibility of the US military training a crazy white supremacist, like was the case with Timothy McVeigh. There are as many racists in Brooklyn and Detroit as there are in Alabama and Mississippi.
@daddymak9 - I wouldn't worry about those guys too much anymore. The new threat since 2001 has been Bin Laden and his merry band of assholes. I wonder where all these crazy white boys are now? Funny how when a new threat comes along, these guys wanna hide.
What shall should've done was get the police mug shot pictures of Al "Mr. Due" Sharptan, & Jessie Hijackson & put those pics on the wall fo' da "bruthas on de wall."
