Until the end of the 1989-1990 season, the original score readouts, which were eggcrate light displays, had five digits. A sixth digit was added for the eggcrates at the beginning of the 1990-1991 season, and lasted until the end of the 2001-2002 season, when they were replaced by monitors at the start of the 2002-2003 season. The monitors were twice the size this past season, and the red, yellow, and blue flashing borders were replaced with flashing white arrows.
In 1991-92 season, they use the diamond backdrops, it was introduced in 1988 where WOF went to NYC. The diamond backdrops was used for road shows until 1995.
Oh, that contestant was doing so good until she called a letter that has been already guessed and up on the puzzle. I never saw this happen. Shame on her, making Vanna walk across the board for nothing, HA!
the diamond shaped backdrops were my favourites. it was introduced in 1988 while Wheel taped theire first road shows in Ney York. the diamond backdrops only lasted until 1995.
The asterisks also lasted one season with the move to Sony Pictures Studios in 1995. However, they were removed after the end of the 1995-96 season. The next two years (1996-98), the backdrops were randomized, and then, in addition to one video wall, another one replaced the randomized backdrops behind the contestants at the start of the 1998-99 season.
And the $200 that that Jewel covered, would be $900 in the primetime version. The space that the Sofa covered would be $150 on the primetime version, I think it was $100 on the daytime version? Anyone want to check?
I know right? And did you catch the blue $750 in round 3? A BLUE $750! A true "Wheel Watcher" knows that the $750 only appears during round one and/or two, and the color of it was always yellow.
Then the Round 1 $1k space would become green, and it would remain that way until its ending in 2000. (For a while though, there'd be a yellow $1K space, too. Just check the closings of any '96-'97 shows and look carefully.

That was round 3 until 1996, when they used 1 wheel template for the whole show. Round 1 ha a pink 1000 space until they came out with the green.
PGOLDEN88 2 years ago
Well, the green $1K space debuted in Season 13 ('95-'96), and was used until Season 17 ('99-'00).
And as I said before, the '96-'97 shows sometimes you'd see a yellow $1K space (similar to the one used in both the daytime and nighttime shows).

Person/Fictional Character--must've been a mouthful for the host to say. Thank goodness it was changed to Star & Role.
