  • This means alot to the welsh, because its all about our heritage, it always makesme cry, tis is one of the best songs ever. I applaud max for makin such a touchin song about a sbject that is close to alot of peoples hearts

  • Max Boyce is the least funny person on Earth. What a talentless tosser.

  • @karezza6 why so angry?

  • @karezza6 And you are a real wag. MB speaks highly of you!

  • @karezza6 srew you u cunt if thats the case dont search on youtube 4 him u prick

  • my bamper worked down the pit. very ill now due to that work. he tells me though that he wouldnt change a thing and he would go down there tomorrow if he had to live his life again. the freinds he made and memories he has from those days he loves.

  • Search on Google for Arno Wolff...if you're remotely interested of course.....look at the BBC Coal House clip for the story......A true gentleman and love him dearly, of course.

  • Tears in my eyes......my dad was a miner. Came over to Wales in 1955 from Germany but soon became an adopted Welshman...

  • Max is a true bard. He is a street bard. Eisteddfods can be snobbish. The red dragon has two tougues!

  • Max Boyce is a poet and and a bard despite his failings at the eisteddfod! brilliant man with a great heart. So many men died from coal, some from explosions, and many from "mining souvenirs". A poetic tribute, well done, cheers!

  • what can I say this is my heritage :o)

SOOOOOOOOOOOO PROUD TO BE WELSH !

  • Duw I'm Hard!! ;O...... but seriously respect to miners...all that incredible wealth left.......for what return....silicosis AYE!! all my family had miners

  • dnt kno who he is but he got a great voice my nan crying to this song

  • heared this 1st time last nite, emotional.....nt the word

    max=legend :)

  • Thanks for sharing this one. I'm American... of partially Welsh descent, and my grandfather was a coal miner in Pennsylvania....who had Black Lung. This song could have been his anthem.

  • Man I love this song - I've got the Treorchy gig CD and love the funnies, but this song is one of the best. Thanks for posting it :-)

  • never forget 4 trillion pounds in 1900 money value was taken out of the valleys....for very little return........they treat us like children....maybe worse...even children get pocket money

  • yep it stops before the end

  • Hiya, does anyone out here have the track that says about being at his aunties and the sleeve falling off his eiderdown? I think the album was a green sleeve.I would love to hear it again and hope someone has it,if it is you,i am jealous but please share xx

  • I wonder what he was thinking about when he first wrote down that song title given that he`s now a batty boy .

  • Max Boyce is a legend. His lyrics are amazing. This song brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. And I like the crackle of the vinyl too. I've got the LP as well. Thanks for posting! :)

  • The welsh fed lies about their culture for years by the state schools........thankfully my family kept the truth.......welsh are not a minority!

  • A great bard. A loves max!

  • I met him :)!

  • classic song

  • Coming from a mining village, this makes me fucking cry.

    RIP.N.U.M.

  • @geofflovett most of my mams family mined near Aberpennar........very proud and all......one of them was from cornwall cos he was an expert engineer.....sadly lost the welsh tongue as it was looked down upon and deemed inferior lol.......sad truths are the vast majority of welsh mining valleys spoke welsh in 1901...went tits up after......my family sent to english schools = cultural loss ......anyway a common love of Max Boyce us a start :P

  • I'm here in Canada but my Da was welsh. I inherited my liking for Max Boyce and rugby at an early day and I was thrilled to find Max here on youtube. I had been thinking about my Dad and this song in particular. My Dad never worked down the pit as he came from a well off family. He did however leave all that behind him to come with my mother across the ocean to Canada, and made a great life for all of us. I'm always proud to be his son! As Max would say " God Bless and fair play to you all! '

  • Greetings from Hong Kong - it was during my stay in South Africa some years ago that I heard a ballad sung by Max Boyce from an album called The Best of Max Boyce - being Afrikaans speaking and not Welsh can only remember that the song was called Whatching the Blooming Wheat - the Title in English. PLEASE where can I find a track of that song?

A female who likes Max Boyce

  • Yes he did lloyd.

  • but powerswade have you worked a proper hard day, and if you have do you have the voice?

  • max worked down the mines from the age he was 15 for nearly a decade!

  • WTF it matter u cock !he just giving voice to a feeling, its called CALON ! miner or accountant, it matters not, its called being Welsh, Cymro Cymraeg boyo !!!!!!!

  • I'm not Welsh but I was taught from a young age to appreciate all cultures from around the British Isles and I will always remember my dad playing his old Max Boyce records and teaching me to play Rugby

  • then iechyd dda, ffrind! always good to appreciate other cultures, even those poor buggers we call the "saes" ... *wink*

DISCLAIMER: The saes are actually alright for the most part, and I was being facetious that last bit by there...

  • as long as she pays for it or macgregor pays back what he took from us hope the cow burns in hell

  • they sung this at my grandfathers funeral, it was incredible! he worked in fernhill. great tradition and coneradery between the workers.

  • unless an alternative fuel source oil will run out within the decade and plans are being put forward to re-open the pits again, thats why they're pushing forward nuclear power or we could see miners throughout wales again soon boys

  • my bamp also worked down the mines hard life fair play to all those that went down there!

  • My grandfather worked all his life down the Valley pits. My mother was a child of Treherbert. I have nothing but support for this area. I know change happens - but it's the abandonment of the area now that coal is not the "big thing" that disappoints me - and yes, that's Labour, Conservative and Liberal that don't care.

  • Times were hard then. How lucky we are. Down on hands and knees. Butty. I dedicate this this to you Rosie, now you know what it was like. Love, Bern x

  • im from sengenydd where the biggest pit dessaster happend and its hard and upseting to think about all the men that did :(

  • Remember as a kid being on the picket lines in Abernant. Now living in Glasgow, and I'm so sad as i can't for the first time vote labour. Sitting with a pint of brains sa. Tear in my eye, and trying to explain to the wife what the closing of the pits did to us. And they wanna give that bitch thatcher a state funeral.... We should have a funeral for the pit villages.

Cheers Max, you've made me even prouder to say "I was there....."

  • this makes me sad-i don't have anyone who worked down the mines, but i feel for all those who did. proud to be welsh, except for this. love, canada

  • Yes butty, lets all chip ten bob for a state funeral for Maggie..........as

long as its tommorow that is !

  • Fucking brilliant.....Aneurin Bevan set up the NHS and the first raising of the red flag of scoialism in the world was at Hirwaun common! Though Labour part are a disgrce....we need a new party!!

  • max boyce is my uncle if u belive me put a thumbs up but if u dont give me a thumbs down and can i ask how do you get a profile pic ?

  • if he were your uncle could you tell me where to get the devils marking me from

  • my grandad worked down the pits from abervan

  • My grand dad worked all his life down the pits... was the death of him. hardly knew him. died when i was only one god bless his sole. not a day goes by i ask my mam and dad about him... i may have hardly knew him but i'm still proud of him and respect him. i want to live as if he had brought me up.

  • Welsh-American I am, and proud, proud, proud of both sides. Love Max Boyce.

  • welsh proud grew up lovin max boyce

  • my dad worked all his life in the pits he swore me and my brothers would never work underground.we never did.we know how hard it was and what we owe to the Welsh miners.

    may Maggie rot in hell!

  • 1 of the greatest songs ever rip dado

  • I'm english but wish I wasn't. My mum is welsh. My uncle had a debenture. He taught me how to drop a goal. He was life itself. I loved him. Miss him greatly. I played rugby for many years and support england & wales but I only cry at the welsh anthem. You can't decide where you are born.

  • Home is where the heart is.

  • @welshgazza1992 Home is where my family is!

  • You sound Welsh in spirit to me. Don`t forget - Lloyd George was born in Manchester!

  • swalld !!! - Duw Duw Bloody Hell You sound exactly like me..My Mum's from Portmadoc my Dad's (was) from Nottingham and I was born in Wrexham. My Dad was a teacher at a school in Shropshire.. Ian Beer (ex Head of th RFU) was the Headmaster.. Our famous Old Boy was Billy Beaumont..haha but at school he played Full Back - can you believe it!!. Always sided with my Mum tho and supported Wales..anyone called Evans from North Wales is a friend and haha maybe a relative !!!

  • @swalld If a cow is born in a stable it does not make it a horse. Your mam is Welsh then you are Welsh! Enjoy your Welshness

  • @swalld old welsh was spoken in england..........so living england you can still be welsh......Y Lloegr means lost land lol

  • @swalld

You can decide where you are born. All Thetans decide the body they incarnate into.

  • @swalld If your mam is Welsh you are Welsh. Enjoy it!

  • @swalld

    Wanker.

  • it stops halfway through!! AUGH!

  • It doesn't! :S

  • The song doesn't stop halfway through but unfortunately it is cut off after the first line of the last verse , which has been noted by Hardinia a wee while ago. )

  • @welshgazza1992 yeah it does :/ half way thou the song not the video

  • does anyone the last lines to this fantastic song

  • But I know the local magistrate,

She's got a job for me,

    Though it's only counting buttons

    In a local factory.

We get coffee breaks and coffee breaks,

    Coffee breaks and tea.

And now I know those dusty mines

Have seen the last of me. 'Cos it's hard, Duw, it's hard Harder than they will ever know. And if ham was underground, Would it be twelve bob a pound. And the pithead baths is a supermarket now. Aye, the pithead baths is a supermarket now.

  • I remeber this song from 30 yrs ago as a kid, I liked the song then but listening to it now and understanding what it's about brings a tear to my eye. Any student doing british history should be made to listen to this and then they might have a clue just what they are studying.

  • hey, i dnt do welsh history, or british history, but all they hav to do is listen, listen not to max boyce, even tho i do love the song, but listen to the grandparents who worked down the mine, i did, i listened to stories every day, i cud draw the albion collery, i cud draw the tower collery, i can tell u wha happened down there from my great grandfathers say so, n listenin to the stories, of the men who served 40 years down there, instead of 8, is much better than listenin to it, through asong

  • dose any one have the chords for this song? id love to play it! truly an amazin welsh song

    cymru am byth!
