  • Steve looked upset throughout the whole clip, was he ok?

  • ricky's big face up there on the screen makes me think of the wizard of oz

  • Liza Tarbuck is revolting

  • I love how Gervais comes on and rips everyone in the room!!

  • Does anyone know why Mitchell & Webb were put as one potential winner, while Gervais and Merchant were up against each other for their work on the same show?

None of it makes sense. Surely they should all be individual nominations for an actor award? And was there really only two series in the UK in 2006 that deserved a nomination for comedy actor?

  • 2:40

  • he doesn't even say anything until 4 and a half minutes in... :S

  • ah ricky gervais telling steve how famous he is when steve has now been on portal 2

  • @TheWilliamisles That sounded pathetic

  • Just to let you know Steve, if that was banter with Ricky or not, we fucking appreciate your work!

  • The guy's a monster o.O

  • Comment removed

  • is that peter crouch...?

  • @nomsdeguerre

That literally looks NOTHING like Crouchy lol.

  • @Subtitles00 wait till he starts doing his robot dance then we will know for sure loll

  • @nomsdeguerre From now on whenever someone says something utterly stupid I will just say they've pulled a 'nomsdeguerre'.

  • @ellguy11.. yo u just pulled a nomsdeguerre.

  • Not to me, I've won American ones.. xDD

  • Hell of a line up - Mark Corrigan, Darren Lamb and Andy Milman!

  • Enter Stephen Merchant at 2:30 into the video. Save yourself some time.

  • PORTAL 2!

  • Haha Ricky said "Still Alive"

  • Stephen literally is my favourite famous person, full stop.

  • I realize it's a joke and everything, but still, the fact that Stephen will probably forever be remembered as Ricky's sidekick-if remembered at all-kinda ticks me off...

  • Portal 2 definitely gave Steven a huge boost in popularity. Although thats not a good thing since there is now a bunch of bickering kids in the comments on every video.

  • actually i'd rather hang out with stephen merchant keith chegwin and barry than gervaid seinfeld ad stiller (hate stiller)

  • What sucks is Americans are such babies. In the Uk insulting people is actually a JOKE!.

  • it seemed like merchant was kinda pissed. You dont see them video in merchant when gervais wins an award. they cant give merchant any credit without mentioning ricky gervais, let alone giving him the acceotance speech. that kinda pisses me off

  • @alexortman I think Steven is just a very modest person, he's been doing comedy with Ricky Gervais for years he knows his comedy, he is the straight man, Ricky is the joker, he loves it ;)

  • Steve Merchants Career > His role in Portal

  • If there ever will be a "Where is Waldo" movie, he will be in it ! :D

  • *stephan

  • @TheYogscastFTW Stephen* :|

  • @BeccaHeartsRainbows haha dammit

  • @007RoyalFlush fool

  • Lol all of EM are fukin geniuses

However, if anyone says theyre a hardcore fan, get on my level

Been there since the xfm radio show even before mr pilkington

I'd really recommend u watch the clips or sow load them, it's what the podcasts were based off of

  • love that everybody calls him Barry

  • I bet Kanye west saw this and thought that he could get people laughing if he tried it :)

  • at 0:15 i thought that was neil peart

  • Stephen looks pretty pissed off

  • @Mat294awesome That's why he won the award for best actor. Haha.

  • Steve Merchant is a fantastic stand up comedian too. Saw him live a couple of weeks ago and it was hilarious, plus he was nice enough to meet his fans after and let me get a picture with him :)

  • @roxyqueen2 i saw him live too - easily as funny as Gervais. And i managed to get a picture with him afterwards, although i found him surprisingly shy.

  • Does anyone else think Merchant is funnier than Gervais?

  • @JarCooler No. I don't think, I know.

  • @JarCooler I would reason with you and say it is more than arguable that merchant is funnier than gervais, but i think gervais is much more talented. Thoughts?

  • @JarCooler no!

  • @JarCooler

If he were funnier...he'd be more popular.

  • @frickadele Well this video has a quarter of a million views and he's just done a sell out national tour. Seems pretty popular as it is.

  • @JarCooler

Merchant is funny....no doubt about it.

But, the only thing standing in the way of

Merchant being more famous than Gervais...

    is the public.

Time will tell.... if that changes or not.

  • @JarCooler they're as funny as each other...they compliment each other

  • Wheatley sent me here. <3

  • @m123c456r789

    I hate you.

  • I can't help but think that most of the idiots in the audience don't know who Jerry Seinfeld is.

  • I love how it's "Mitchell and Webb" then "Ricky Gervais" and "Stephen Merchant".

  • It's really sad that this guy wrote, directed and acted in the two greatest comedy series of the 2000s, is a star of the world's most popular podcast and has almost single-handedly changed the face of modern comedy, as well as done years of dedicated radio work, and the thing most people here know him for is a cameo in a videogame which is known for its incredibly irritating fanbase.

  • @videogamenostalgia it's hardly a cameo.

  • @videogamenostalgia I'm with you on this one. I listen to the old XFM stuff every day, I've got all the podcasts, The Office, Extras, Cemetery Junction, yet most people I talk to now about Steve say "Oh, the guy in Portal 2!" It's infuriating.

  • @videogamenostalgia I lahv you...after Steve of course, but I lahv you none-the-less!

    So true.

  • @videogamenostalgia

that is so ridiculous - if anything, his "cameo" (he completely stole the show in that video game, by the way) raised awareness of how unbelievable he really is - i won't lie, i hadn't even heard of him before portal, but after it, i imediatly researched everything he had done, and soon forgot portal - don't act like you get bonus points for being a "hardcore fan" who was with him from the beginning!

  • @qwerty2460123 *high five*

  • @videogamenostalgia I don't think cameo means what you think it means. And I also don't think you know much about Portal or its fanbase, or about Merchant's fanbase,

  • @videogamenostalgia Come on. I like Steven Merchant, but saying that he almost single-handedly changed the face of modern comedy might be an over statement. Plus, his role in Portal is not merely a cameo, and he does a great job in it.

  • You forgot to thank Portal 2 for making him more famous. At least now people'll be more motivated to check out his own work.

Stop hating on the fans. How can you blame them for "not knowing him before Portal", that's a silly thing to do. Almost just as silly as people voting thumbs up for your comment.

  • @TheBestKindOfFailure I agree. I didn't really watch extras and the office until I started branching their work after watching An Idiot Abroad. I did play Portal 2 before that but I didnt know Steven did the voice for Wheatley which I feel kinda bat about now :/ I think he should be more known. Even Karl is beginning to get more famous. Ricky and Karl is going to be acting in a new tv-show.

  • @TheBestKindOfFailure I think the fact that he's in the most downloaded podcast on Earth alongside Ricky and Karl made him more famous than what Portal 2 did, seriously.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheBestKindOfFailure Yeah, I do. I believe the podcast's hit over 200 Million downloads a few years back. How many sales did Portal 2 get? That's what I thought.

  • @andysanj What the fuck is a podcast?

  • Well yes, that's easy when something is free and easy downloadable on the internet. A podcast is NOT comparable to a computer game, neither does it mean their podcasts are more popular than Portal 2.

  • @TheBestKindOfFailure Some of them were not free. Stephen had more success with those podcast's, XFM, the office etc. than some half-arsed game.

  • What the.

Are you insane? If you're angry at the fans and the fact this DID increase Stephens popularity, then go ahead and be bitter over nothing, but in no way is Portal "half-arsed". Did you even play it. If I didn't know any better, the entire game revolves around Stephen's character, and Stephen's character basicly IS Stephen.

It's a shame a fan isn't able to appreciate that, just because you're angry over the fame of a game. A fame well deserved and mainly thanks to Stephen.

  • @andysanj Half-arsed? Games of that magnitude often have larger budgets than major films. In the case of Portal 2, an enormous amount of talent went into the writing, and it shows. Just because it's a genre that you probably dismissed long before it was capable of telling a great story doesn't mean it's of any less value now that it can.

  • @videogamenostalgia it was not a cameo he was the main bad guy

  • Comment removed

  • @videogamenostalgia and nobody knows who he is yet everyone kkows who ricky is

  • @videogamenostalgia CAMEO? CAMEO?!?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

  • @videogamenostalgia Dude! He was the STAR of that game. You don't know what you're talking about.

  • @videogamenostalgia

A cameo? Seriously? He was one of the stars in Portal 2! Besides does it really mind how people got to know him? Because someone got to know him because of Portal 2 doesn't mean they can't appreciate the office or extras.

  • @videogamenostalgia as long as people know him, it shouldn't matter. i first heard about stephen merchant from portal 2 but after i did some youtubing i became addicted to the things he's in.

  • @videogamenostalgia I agree entirely...

  • Wheatley just gave him a wider audience in the US, there's nothing wrong with that.

  • do people realize that this is a joke? of course ricky isnt actually interrupting him because he's pissed off that he didnt win, it's obviously been planned before hand, these two are best mates!,

  • @brunettevideos That's part of Ricky's gimmick. An arrogant, self-righteous, self-important....tosser basically. But still, it's great how him and Steve have this no holds barred, back and forth relationship. Ultimately, I do think they realise that one would not be anything without the other.

  • @buckbumble awww :D

  • @buckbumble awww :D

  • seeing him live next week! cant wait to see how that goes!

  • @F1Racers lucky

  • Ricky is such a twat, love him anyway

And i love stephen so much! BLESS HIM! I feel sorry for him the way ricky gets all the credit...

  • SMERCH IS SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ..am I going to have to say this?...

    Stephen not Steven!

  • ...aaannndd he ended up being a main character in one of highest rated games in the world xD

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT WHEATLEY YOU BUNCH OF NERDS.

Merchant was way famous before that!

  • Cant stand this Wheatley stuff.. regardless of whether he was amazing in Portal 2 or not (which I expect he is, as everything Steven does is magical,) he not only co-wrote The Office and Extras (2 of the finest Sit-Coms ever) of which he should be more famous for, his podcasts' with Ricky and Karl are genius, and he was famous, and brilliant, far before Wheatley , i am glad that Portal has made him more renowned and hopefully given him the higher recognition that he deserves.

  • How come Ricky and Stephen get their own nominations but David and Robert have to share theirs? I mean I agree that Stephen actually deserved to win the award but they could of at least given the guys their own nominations.

  • stole his thunder so much, dont like Ricky for this one. :(

  • @richie616799 it was obviously a joke...

  • Liza Tarbuck is soooooooooooooo sexyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :O:O:O

  • I LOVE YOU WHEATLEY!!!!!AND NO, YOU ARE NOT A MORON :D

  • Liza looks good.

  • British comedy is so much better than american comedy maybe thats why they keep stealing the shows in the UK office red dwarf spaced the thick of it shameless the inbetweeners skins etc etc so rickys bragging doesn't really work

  • @jimmy2k4o Neither does yours. boo. get off.

Both the US and Britain produce some brilliant comedians and guess what! .... so do other countries as well. It's almost as if we're all the same species or something. Next thing you know these crazy scientists with their protractors and rulers will be able to prove that you can be funny even if your're born in the third world.

    Imagine that.

  • @synchc i'm not saying Britain is the only place that makes good comedy I'm not even British so am not bragging and am not sayin american comedy sucks some is okey but not a lot, and America does steal loads of British shows and makes them crap and you can't argue with that either you can't argue with that cause its fact, the truth of the matter is and sorry if it offends you but the vast majority of americans are too ignorant to watch anything that isn't made in america, sorry but thats true

  • who the fuck is Wheatley????

  • @jimmy2k4o wheatly is a character that had a large role in portal 2. he was voiced by steven and he did a brillant job.

  • steve rules

  • I totally looked away when he was talking so I could imagine Wheatley saying it all.

    Oh god Merchant is Brilliant.

  • Hooray for Wheatley.

  • I love how humble he is.

  • SSSSSSPPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCEEEE

  • "I'm surprised you're still alive!" That cracks me up every time!

  • It is literally so weird seeing Wheatley accepting TV awards...

  • @MagneticPig shut up with ur video game crap

  • WHEATLEY!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @EllenRebecca3 He means he'd rather be testing... for science.

  • Wheatley!!!

  • Portal 2!!!

  • "those of u that know me know where i would rather be". i dont get that joke why was it funny?

  • put that right in the fucking bin piece of plastic bollox

  • He looks normal til he stands up.

  • Now chuck in Karl Pilkington and we have a party!

  • Can't wait for Confetti 2!

  • Comment removed

  • i desperately love this man. pleased to see him finally getting his moment

  • Why is Steven costantly put in the shadows behind Rick?

I find Steven much funnier than Ricky most of the time, and also more attractive.

    So un-fair, he's such a un-regconised comic legend.

  • @0Passionate0

It's part of the dynamic of the duo.

  • @0Passionate0 He probably likes it that way.

  • Stephen was funnier than Gervais in video.

  • Aw I do love Stephen but I do hear he is sick of being forever in Ricky's shadow...

  • Stephen looked quite moody? :\

  • Merchant's fantastic. Sounds bitchy but everyone knows he's the brains of the operation, and I'd love him to do more stuff without Gervais.

  • why did ricky get to talk?? i would be really pissed off if i was steven here

  • @karoolta It was planned

  • obviously...

  • Is this the one they call bollocks and chuck in the bin in that video? :P

  • I wish smerchy was a nicer guy IRL, he's so cute. I fancied the pants off him til I got the complete collection of the RG XFM show and found out what a mean sexist judgemental git he is. But he's eye candy, so hey :-P

  • @leushy He's not any of those things in real life. The XFM shows are just pissing about, you're not meant to take them seriously.

  • they probably wrote this together which makes it even funnier.

  • "Don't bank on it lanky"

  • I even love him in the Barclays ads.

  • "Dont bank on it lanky" lol!!

  • i love how everyone still calls him barry

  • aww smerch is so cute :)

  • LOL, thats the award they throw in the bin in their other video.

  • Steve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per usual in the processSteve Wins an award and is very funny as per

  • Merchant is the funniest underdog in British comedy, period

  • Ricky was like Greg from Extras xD

  • @iuhuuh hahahahahaha, so true!!!

  • ricky couldnt even stay out of this one for once and let steve accept it on his own. its always about him lol

  • Its a shame they showed a non funny bit on steves clip

  • @HellsHighwayTrooper - Are you joking?

  • @SCGstag15 Theres not an ounce as much of comedy on it as the rest.

  • @HellsHighwayTrooper - There are so many great moments, i absolutely agree. But that exchange is funny.

  • Comment removed

  • what a fucking legend

  • HAHA! That's the first time I've actually heard Steven use the 'F' word! XD "Even when he's not in the fucking country!" X'D Steven Merchant is a legend! :))

  • i'd love to see a barry (from extras) and stephen merchant show

  • I love how Merchant applauds his own nomination.............

  • "Now, the bid lin, the lid bin - the bin lid, yeah?"

KARL PILKINGTON HAS A HEAD LIKE A FUCKING ORANGE! CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNT!

Go on Ricky, you and steve should so something on the 8th series of Curb next year. Or at least get Larry to meet up with Karl and film it. Karl should meet Guest as well. Rick, Steve and Karl - Geniuses.

  • @danutcase66 ricky is in the next season of curb plus ricky and steve have written there next tv show like curb but with a little person

  • @809Ollie

I know - I heard last month - gonna be great isn't it?

  • @danutcase66 yea should be i love curb own the box sets i just wonder if there going to script it or just outline it in detail like larry does?

  • @809Ollie

Same. I am a huge fan of Curb and i'm from England. Curb isn't at all well known because the UK never showed Seinfeld and only shows Curb on a quiet channel every (Technically Monday) at 1 in the morning which is a shame.

Curb is a cult comedy in the UK, only a small handful know about its genius.

When you mentioned whether it will be outlines or script - are you referring to the episode of Curb with Ricky or Ricky's new Sitcom?

  • @danutcase66 i know im from the uk too lol im always trying to get my friends to watch it they do put the new season on at 10 pm on there first run and they gave quite a bit of add time too the last season aswell. i was talking about rickys new show i expect it will be worte like there last 2 shows but sinfeild was writen as well so i dont know

  • @809Ollie

Oh right, In that case i'm betting my future morgage that it is all scripted and some bits are improvised like the odd phrase or wording, that's it. Wouldn't it be great if Larry was in an episode of Life's Too Short. I WANT KARL TO MEET LARRY!

  • @danutcase66

BBC2 used to show Seinfeld all the time and then The Larry Sanders Show right after it. Seinfeld was also broadcast on the Paramount Comedy channel in the UK so plenty of people know about Seinfeld.

  • @UKFightFan4

Really? I didn't kniw that....but I disagree with your last comment. Most of the people I know have either never heard of Seinfeld or have heard of it but don't know what it is. Even less people know about Curb who I know.

  • @danutcase66

Not trying to be a dick but you're a big fan of Curb (and I presume Seinfeld) but you didn't even know that Seinfeld has been shown on various channels here in the UK so you can disagree with my comment by saying people you know don't know about Seinfeld but that's not very conclusive.

You also have to remember that Seinfeld finished in 1998 so maybe your friends never watched it when it was on (as you didn't) but this doesn't mean it's not well known in the UK.

  • @UKFightFan4

I like the "Not trying to be a dick" touch. Lol.

Nah, basically I got into 'The Office' when I was 8 years old, which I find amazing since the humour is very subtle but my Dad is a huge comedy fan and got me into it. Then, a two or so years later, I stumbled across a programme that had the same realistic feel - it was Curb. I immeidately loved it. It was due to the storyline of Curb that introduced me to Seinfeld - which is odd I know.

  • @danutcase66

If you got into The Office when you were 8 then you're a lot younger than I thought. Your profile says you're 30 (I'm 31) but you can only be 17/18 at the most if that's the case. Makes sense then that you didn't know about Seinfeld until recently.

I was serious about not trying to be a dick. I don't tend to make comments on YT and I know that a lot of people tend to get into slagging each other off which is pointless - especially when we're just discussing a TV show.

  • @UKFightFan4

I'm not saying that Seinfeld isn't popular in the UK. My point is that Friends is far more famous in the UK than Seinfeld is. I mean Friends reruns have been on Channel 4 for years and still get substantial ratings (Although I hear Channel 4 are getting rid of it next year). It was just an obervation and common theme that whenever Seinfeld or Curb was mentioned to my family (Even cousins, aunts etc), friends or people at my college or school, they'd never heard of either. Shame.

  • @danutcase66

It's a shame but it's their loss. Also, the Friends argument is a different one. No one's going to argue that Seinfeld's more popular in the UK than Friends but it's a totally different type of show (with a different time slot due to the nature of the show) and appeals to a different audience than both Seinfeld and Curb. It's unfortunate but there are just more people who watch shit like Friends compared to Curb.

  • @UKFightFan4

Yeah, it is a real shame. Although the only reason why I watch Friends at all is because it was on all the time when I was young and so I have a nostalgia for it. Friends is one of those shows you watch because it's on rather than to laugh at. For the past few years, I've been watching Seinfeld. I think it is great. It has the comedy of Curb combined with the watch-ability of Friends. Seinfeld makes Friends looks severely lacking in comedy. Friends is more of a rom sitcom really

  • love those guys! so great
