Watched my dad and my brothers and their friends play Age of Empires and Age of Empires 2 throughout my childhood. What was special with these games to me was that they didn't let me play because they thought I didn't understand how to play. Even without understanding of English, when I got to play it, I could play it without a problem cause I had seen what they did. Ahh good old times.

I still remember the day I got this. Oh my god! What's funny is I got the gold edition and it came with the expansion pack. But I didn't know what the Gold Edition was and didn't know that the back of the CD case opened, so I never played the expansion until like 5 or 6 years later. Lol

this game is so epic they should remake it but same gameplay and everything... i remember i used to sit there for hours even after the match was basicly dont i would occupy the enemy so they dont attack me and make my empire, try and expand into ally bases XD. and sometimes attack my own walls to make them look like ruins... even though my copy was "borrowed" which was a big mistake, memories of my childhood live on inside me as i cameo everything i do with AoE 2!!!!!

so it had music after all. All those years without music. My brother once promised to teach me how to play it but I got impatient and learnt it myself, besides it took 2 months for him to finally remember his promise. (sigh) Nearly ten years have passed. Man to what lengths did I go, used to leave some unlucky enemy villagers in a wooden wall with a market and turned 1/4 of the map into a city and the rest into huge farms. Obsession?

aha i remember at the soundtrack at 1:50 i always used to build all these town centres castles and the stables and always always made a trillion paladins (because i was always the Persians) all other teams didnt stand no chance (i loved using cheats!)

I really must mention that Vikings are the best. I mostly played the Conquerors, even though I hate those stinking petards, so I'm not as familiar with this theme. Anyway, in the Conquerors, the technology Berserkergang has to be the most unfair feature. This game doesn't have the greatest graphics, but its playability and addictivitude will remain for eternity.

@halowars1324 Because now they try to make music with modern-ized instruments and not the old style 8-bit or 16- bit music that was used to games such as Age of empires or games from around the 90's. They had alot of amazing fun soundtracks that were pleasent to listen too. Now it's all about being LOUD and Supposedly "Impressive!" But they aren't that awesome such as AoE2. Just look at AoE3 of how bleh their soundtrack is.

I remember playing this when I was just a wee little toddler. I loved the colorful and artistic feel of the graphics, and managing my villages and cities. The battles were fun, but this game had a lot of bonus goodies too.

I still remember those Japanese archers that had repeating bows. That was so cool.
