Many classical composers have what we call türkü, köçekçe, sirto, etc.. Dede Efendi's türkü "Şu karşıki dağda bir yeşil çadır" just to give you an example...
Here is the story of this song; while travelling on a train, the composer (Tanrıkorur) saw villagers returning from the fields, weary, somewhat haggard, but happy. The evening sun flashing upon their sweaty faces, giving off a unique reflection. At that moment he got the inspiration and composed this. This is, to my best knowledge, the only song which merges Turkish folk music and classical music. (Another alias of this song is "Return from the fields")
