As mentioned in the description this is a "rough" test to show that a 2d to 3d conversion could be achieved with video. My video was made using various layers of the same video overlayed with 3d parts applied to some but not all. It also deals with a zillion key frames. So when the stego's head falls out of 3d frame it is because I did no re-trace the matte to keep it in. I did this this quick and on the fly for as an example.
Great to see this. Yes, it needs some tweaking to work with the limited resolution on youtube but it's fascinating technology. I hear they are issuing the original "Night of the Living Dead" in 3d in theaters soon. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for the comment. When I mention to hit the HQ button I mean it literally. The original file was close to 1 gig in size, uncompressed avi. Using youtubes HQ button brings this quality out and the 3d effect works well. Viewing it normally looks bad and the 3d does not really work. SO PLEASE USE THE HQ BUTTON FOR VIEWING
Yes,I used HQ and full screen. I think the bottom line is we have to see this in the movies on the big screen where Kong deserves to be. How awesome with that be!!!
I think it would be great, but man would it be an aweful lot of work. However the studios have access to software and the time (staff) to undertake such a task. Who knows, one day we might be suprised
Fulyl understood, I need to ask did you hit the HQ button or did you just watch the clip as is?. I also mentioned using various video layers to create the effect. This is the only way you can do 2d to 3d conversion from a flat 2d video source. I also stated it was a rought test. You should read my description because it addresses some of your issues with it.
and yes it did re-create it it in a true 3d image. Had I let a single program do the 3d then everything in the shot would have been converted and therefore you would have had a 3d image that the whole video either appears in or the whole image appears out. In my clip I give you both pop and depth
Hi mazinz, this isn't the only way. You can build a virtual 3D model of the scene, in ALL it's complexity, and then project from the (2) camera position(s) the 2D signal onto the vitual model. This shot is tricky because there is a gradual slope on the floor and the monsters legs look like they get chopped off.
Hey, keep it up - you will get better!
Check out in3 and Passmore Labs, who do 2D to 3D conversion for Hollywood.
That would be a bit extreme, but yes that could be done. In my case it was a combo of 3 separate video clips and using a cutting/matting function as well as an overlay to bring them all together (sony Vegas)
I kept the stegosaurus further in the back (3d depth). The middle as regular 2d and the men in the front with 3d pop.
I did this as a rough test to show that it could be done and of course with more work put in, really pull something off nicely
this works BAD ASS! awesome you totally need to work with universal pictures and make there old horror movies in 3D it looks FABULOUS! i am using red and blue 3D glasses i got for FREE from time Warner cable business office for the Jonas brothers concert in 3D.
It works really nice with the HQ button on. Red and blue 3D effects usualy don't like shitty compression because it mess with the eyes but in HQ the effect really pop at you effortess.
Thank you! It is nice when people actually read the description in the title and on the right hand side so I do not have to keep repeating the directions over and over
As mentioned you have to hit youtube's HQ button in order for the 3d effect to work. You also have to have red and blue glasses and make sure the red lens is over your left eye
Just make sure you hit the HQ button to see a tremendous quality jump AND the 3d effect will play and work properly. If you view it under "normal" it just does not work at all--
glad you enjoyed the clip, if you check out the info, this is more than just letting some program do it for me. I actually broke the picture down into layers and worked with it that way. This is the only way to get true 3d from a 2d video.
WOAH! MAKE THE WHOLE MOVIE IN 3D!

Doesn't look right to me. The head of the Stego when he falls gives away the projection screen FX.

I am not flaming you, just giving my honest opinion about the 2D to 3D conversion.
However, this is not true 3D, but painfully obvious cardboard layering. The 2D version is way better than the conversion.
Sorry.

This clip might not work well if you are using the greenish/violet 3d glasses that seem to be coming with newer films released on dvd and blu-ray

Wow the 3d really adds perspective. Very cool. What program do you use? I've always wanted to make a 3d movie.

thank you (you did make sure to hit the HQ quality button correct, if you did not then you are not getting the amazing 3d effect properly. ).
