Ok just read 2 years of comments... this sound was from Whelen called the exicutor, it sounded ALOT like the eq2 so much that Whelen sued federal so Whelen changed the tone a bit so it's not called mechanical or anything like that it's the "exicutor" tone. The real Q is always going to sound best cause it's a real mechanical siren this is all ELECTRONIC!!! so it's not going to sound the same!!!!

Honestly... I like the wind down 295SL100, and it has some of that choppy growl tone, which I like as well. A couple things I don't like about the 295, it has a pretty damn slow wind up, and it cuts off far too soon.

I think if they could combine the sound and wind down of the Whelen's mechanical, with the wind up speed and tone range of the EQ2B, you could have a really good sounding mechanical simulation on a siren.

Other than that, nice video! Gets a thumbs up from me.

pretty sweet! We are starting to add Qs on our ambulances as well...sooo much more effective at moving traffic. To the person who said they don't like the sound...that it kind of the point. Sirens are not supposed to sound pleasant...they are supposed to move traffic and get personnel places.

This isnt a real eQ. EQs are made by Federal Signal, this is Whelen. It is a Q knockoff. Our Sheriff's Department uses these and has had no problems.

The Q2b siren is only as loud as you want it to be. It's totally controlled by the opperator.

The eQ2b, is similar except that the opening tone is fixed when in cycle mode. It aways starts out at the same sound level. A little on the loud side.

its not modified in any way...it comes with it...and the 295SLSA1 model does also...the regular 295HFSA1 does not.

im upgrading to the SLSA1...because of the sperate horn and manual buttons, and the two separate speaker connections. I use the whelen SA314 speakers (now replaced by the sa315 speakers).

Yeah whelen got sued by federal signal because they own a trademark on the term "q siren" and apparently they patented the specific tone as well. So after the lawsuit whelen changed the model numbers to have an M instead of a Q and they altered the tone.

The "mechanical tone" is based on Whelen's now discontinued Executor siren. It was the competition to Federals "eQ2b" electronic siren. It sounds pretty good.. But needs more wind down at the end of it's coast.
