I love this, I love artists like Vini Reilly, I just hope England keeps producing them and we don't lose our great history of music and bands and the guitar players, the love of music is amazing, when I see things like x factor trying to exploit music for the quick £ it kills me, respect to all the guys and girls that pick up an instrument and play it, trudge round the UK on late night small gigs in pubs and clubs trying to get known, sticking to what they believe, because of the love of music.
Wonderful. A musician that manages to bring the timeless romance and beauty of an antique Italian piazza into the melancholy humdrum heart of inner city England. A tender joy.
@herringpickled I can't imagine there being anything romantic or beautiful about an old Italian pizza. Yes, admittedly there's no comparison with the muck served up on every high street in Britain but what's that got to do with the bleeding Durante Column?! No, in all seriousness, very nicely put. Melancholia has rarely sounded so desirable as this.
@MisAnnThorpe Well misanthropizza, one throws these things out into the ether with no expectation of a response. Thanks for your comment. I know what you mean about maturity and cheese - 'nuff said. 'Durante' column - lovely. Is that a reference to 'the schnoz'? Durante Flying Buttress could also be a runner.
i remember listening to my brothers Durutti Column album when I was maybe 15/16, im 39 now, as mrmjdinosaur said, reminds you of times past. It is just beautiful music, nt to sure bout vid but I have to say I was very surprised that I found them again on youtube.
Just a fantastic tune, first heard in difficult times and now reminding me how amazing it is that we somehow manage to get through the heart-aches and heart-breaks and come back to wistful wonder...
Amazing, this is where I first heard this song as well. I remember the exact episode, it aired in 1992... can still remember the opening by Steven Hill. Incredible how a piece of music can stay with you all these years.
a brilliant band,I remember everything, looking out the window with my brothers and listening to the durrutti column looking at the sky and feeling great. Thanks

John Frusciante of Red Hot Chilli Peppers fame has said Vini Reilly is the best guitarist in the world. I like that!
