  • I read Rush was Rock band of the decade (Dont remember if it was 80s or 90s). let that sit in for a moment. A decade. Not Rock band of the Year. Yet, until most recently not a lot of younger people knew who they were unless Mom or Dad told them or played them. Yet, Madonna made it in the Hall of Fame and not Rush? (Or has Rush finally made it in?) I like a few Madonna songs. She's ok for the kind of stuff she does but She is not really Rock.

  • This song always reminds me of my teen years cycling long distances. Even though this came out years after.

    rush- transcends time.

  • @jelt110 sounds legit. time's wibbly anyway.

  • For me, all that I love about Rush is defined in the section from 1:44 to 3:02.

  • Fuck the hall of fame April Wine and Rush deserve more credit, especially april wine

  • There is always a lot of discussion of Rush's exclusion to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

They are such an obvious choice, along with others, the folks in charge are holding out on alot of big names to keep fan interest high over the years. After all, its not like rock has a lot names to pick from 10 years from now from the current crop of rock offerings.. Foo Fighters is about all I can think of right now...

  • @mattygee5000 I agree. Chemical Brothers is good. Thom York is good as is/was Radiohead. there are a few good bands. But it's not that the world is lacking talent. Its they're underground and not getting the attention and exposure they should be. Sonic Youth is another and so is The Pixies or Frank Black from the Pixies

  • I Could really care less about Rush being in the hall of fame, because Rush has been a big name for decades now, this bands talent set is light years ahead of most bands, these three guys are the real deal love them or not!

  • @roger128917 The weird thing is it was the very State (even city?) that the RHoF is in that played Rush for the first time for Americans (USA). Rush has always been grateful for that yet they're not in the hall of fame yet? What's happening out in Ohio that has done this?

  • i've been listening to this song for two years.

    Still gives me chills everytime.

  • historically futuristic

  • The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame needs to be renamed to The Music Industry Hall of Fame.....or just simply burn the building for a big weenie and marshmellow roast

  • @LongDrivesAtNight I concur 110% (I'm originally from Cleveland, OH)

  • One of my favorite Rush songs to jam.

  • A truly great tune from a truly great band. To my mind, this song evokes images of a Heavenly Archangel watching over the earth from afar as the daily madness unfolds down here. I believe that angels exist, but, they cannot act independently (without dictates/orders) from The Divine Creator. I also believe that angels are very concerned about us, and that they pray for us, as well. This one goes out to Neil P. Just some thoughts.

  • Dynamic - powerful

  • Every time I hear this, I think of an angel singing these lyrics to me and then telling me, "keep your eyes to the skies -- especially the sun."

  • Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band. Ok Hall of fame, sheese, get a grip and just do it!

  • a few years back, I wrote the R@R (yeah right) hall of fame when they inducted Madonna....Madonna???/ ROCK AND ROLL???wtf... They basically told me they take the commercially popular...and feel free to stop in.....trust me, that ain't happening.

  • @paddlesailnitro,@2062AD Not only Madonna but The Temptations (Motown), Donna Summer (Disco), and Michael Jackson (pop). All good artist, BUT THEY ARE NOT ROCK AND ROLL!!! You're right, as for Rush, the album sales alone speak for themselves. It's like I said before-The R&RHOF is a farce! It really holds no credibility or measure as to who or what makes a successful band. Even Keith Richards was like "o.k., big deal".

  • @skicrazy121 Its funny...Between Rush and Kiss they sold a total of almost 300 million records. That number is unreal. Both bands arent in. What a joke, huh?

  • Damn........this song is good....!

  • fuck the hall of fame and rolling stone , those assholes were always against progressive music

  • With all of the mindless tripe that tries to pass itself off as music, these days, it's great to know that Rush is out there.

  • This is the signature tune of 2012.

  • @mickeymousebiker1 I'm sensing a paradox...

Clockwork Angels comes out may this year, and this is the theme of 2012, but Rush is still around during the time...

    MY MIND IS BREAKING!

  • @fearsomesnow Many thanks for the interesting reply. Keep it together. Heaven is watching us all. It's there to help us.

  • i love Rush , no matter what! wooooo! God bless you guys!

  • This song makes me want to go to the Korean DMZ!

  • red alert red alert

  • A song about nuclear warfare yet is so brilliantly and softly put.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time!!!

  • the top of the mountain in rock n roll

  • asdfqwdqwdq

  • Here are the priests shouting STOP SINGING IN THE ACID RAIN!

Priests of the Temples of Syrinx, of course.

  • Good thing I've had the pleasure of seeing Rush live.. Oh yeah, and I sat front row ;) (thank you local radio stations)

  • Timeless innovators towering above rest, rock icons indeed!

  • @THECARS7879 THEY SHOULD PUT RUSH IN, COME ON. THEY'RE THE HOLY TRINITY, FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!

  • the best rush album EVER

  • @walkandlookup I second that!!!

  • 4 people can't face the knowledge that the truth is not the Truth.

    Obsolete

    Absolute

  • @Tasarran May God have mercy on this 4 ignorants

  • I AGREE MY FRIENDS...RUSH IS SIMPLY THE MOST SUPERIOR OF ALL ROCK BANDS EEEVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...AND YES I ALSO AGREE THAT I HAVE NEVER HEARD A BAD RUSH TUNE !!!!!!!!!

  • RUSHHHHHHH this is one of their best ever songs, i respect you for your insanely good taste in music

  • Merci Canada! The best band in the world!

  • This song fits Korea quite well! with soldiers on each side of the border ready to start a war at anytime, the meeting area at Panmunjom, the bridge of no return. Rush should go to the border and play this song to the North Koreans.

  • @SpamZoid We all need to stand down.

  • still complete with allusions to Deuterium, Sodom and Gomorrah, Gene Kelly, Atlas, Ronald Reagan, Ernest Hemingway, sci-fi scenarios, William Faulkner, and most certainly the titular abstract line of defense that stretches from Hawaii to northern Alaska and then all the way to eastern Canada. Appears to be sampling from several sources. Mainly at the beginning of this song. Can't seem to identify it.

  • i must admit, i can always find a bad song with all good bands. but Rush? hasn't happened in 30 plus years! they are truly number one. i have been listening to them since 11 and im 42. i guess i will always be as serious a fan i can be. i am soo glad for those three, they have helped me through countless struggles. Rush rules!

  • @MultiRushfan Took me through days of riding up to Ontario they did. 15 hour drive from my house to my "Uncle's house."

  • This is so Retro, I love it

  • One of the first albums i ever heard on casette!, love it such a spacey sounding futuristic far out rock masterpiece

  • This song really reminds of my divorce!

  • Rush makes the WHOLE WORLD cool !

  • I So want to see RUSH in concert, I missed a chance this past Spring

  • @THECARS7879 Fortunate I have been to see these 3 fine gentleman more times than I can count. Trust me, I take this not for granted.

  • @THECARS7879 They are fucking sick in concert man. I sat 4th row for moving pictures in stl, Hell yea it was a good show

  • @superman63052 I had the distinct pleasure of making momentary, yet unambiguous, direct eye contact with each of them, as I sat in the third row of a performance in Indianapolis (one of many of their performances I've attended).

Petty? Maybe. But since then I've live a life few even imagine, and I still remember. I hope you had the same pleasure.

  • Always one of my fav albums..Red Sector A,even Reds...Its Rush...It was different and who saw it coming from them?..They just kept trying to evolve

  • This is the one song I wanna hear live more than any other. I've been seeing them live since 2007, and unfortunately I heard Summertime Blues instead of Distant Early Warning in 2007. I hope to hear this next year.

  • When i mentione RUSH not being in the Hall of Fame i forgot to mention Blue Oyster Cult, and Grand Funk Railroad, Bachman Turner Overdrive. The CARS gave Rolling Stone a big interview they should now get into the Hall of Fame. guys put your votes, i dont care who you vote for. and Dont forget abuot the legendary band YES, who should ve been in 12 years ago

  • @THECARS7879 you have amazingly good taste, lol, but do you really think especially these bands care one whit whether they are in the Hall of Fame? Actually more a badge of honour not to be in there at all, cause it is rigged and just plain old BS...maybe these bands mean something to us still, because they are different, cheers ;)

  • RUSH , the CARS, Grand Funk Railroad, ELO , and YES , should be in the rock in roll hall of fame. put your votes in guys, cause i think Hall of fame is rigged like American Idol.

  • @THECARS7879 Don't forget about Deep Purple and Nirvana!

  • @CMD9889 I mentioned Deep Purple somewhere else, Its kind early for Nirvana to be honest with you. I Believe the first album has to be 25 years old man

  • @THECARS7879 Yeah, you're right. Nirvana will be eligable in 2016. Deep Purple's has been eligable since 1993, and 18 years later, are still not in, but just as deserving to get in!

  • Canada was cool until May 2

  • Why arent the CARS, ELO , Blue Oyster Cult , Deep Purple and Rush not in the Rock n roll hall of fame. i think the rock n roll hall of fame is rigged

  • @THECARS7879 BECOUSE THEY TOLD THE TRUTH ALL YOU SO CALLED RUSH FANS STILL DONT GET IT DO YOU?

  • @starspangled1965 you are exactly right, RUSH doesn't want anything to do with the RRHF, they aren't interested in it whatsoever because they see it for what it really is. It does not fit their style at all and they've voiced that before I believe.

  • @THECARS7879 The inductees are controlled by Jan Wenner, the editor of Rolling Stone magazine. If he doesn't like somebody, they don't get in.

  • @kyla2112 thats bull shit, but how do you know that , someone should do something about that already. the Sex Pistols are in the Hall of Fame and Rush , The CARS, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Yes , and Motley Crue arent? thats Bogus!

  • @THECARS7879 I forget where I saw the point being made, probably here on a Grand funk video but it's true. No band that Rolling Stone pans is in. Not one. No matter how many records they sold or many other artists they influenced.

  • @THECARS7879 Rush is way better than the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Same with all the other bands

  • @THECARS7879 because Lauper, Jackson and Blondie are...this gives you the lead of finding out how these HOF guys "think"

  • @THECARS7879 yes...it is rigged.....add the Moody Blues to the list

  • @THECARS7879 Because the hall of fame is a joke. Rush stands above it

  • @TheSicknessIsTheCure ..Agreed, RUSH is above that Cleveland shit hole. no offense to Clevelanders' themselves, I' from Buffalo, I know your pain. but "SICKNESS" is correct: RUSH doesn't need validation from that place. Ironically, RUSH got it's 1st break and "invaded" America thru Cleveland. They still love that city and are loyal to it.

  • @TheSicknessIsTheCure You said it!

  • Comment removed

  • @THECARS7879 The Cars suck. The have one song.. one song with a thousand titles.

  • @seandunx yeah and you dont know what your talking about

  • @THECARS7879 the cars are new wave witch is what i try to stay away from

  • @apacolypseday theyre more then new wave, theyre mixed with guitar rock, but oh well.

  • @THECARS7879 no, and michael jackson is in, and he isnt even rock....oh, and madonna, and the back street boys.....wtf?

  • @THECARS7879 Because of a loser you may have heard of by the name of Jann Wenner. He's the head guy at Rolling Stone magazine. He is on the Rock Hall's Induction Committee, and he doesn't like your aformentioned bands as well as other greats like Triumph, April Wine, James Gang, Iron Maiden. But yes, as TheSicknessIsTheCure said, the hall is a joke now. Jay Z isn't even rock and he's in there. What does that tell ya?

  • I FUCKING LOVE RUSHHHH!!!!!!!! n soo pissed im not at the hamilton show tonight

  • @Pinkfloyd75100 David Wild from Rollingstone keeps them out..Its his mission...I forgot all about the Cars, they have their due too...Good call...I loved Benjamine Orr

  • @Tod661 All the critic's that black list rush just dont want to have to admit that they were wrong about them all those years ago.

  • Three people haven't been warned.

  • The Grace Under Pressure album amazes me every time I hear it. I love Rush, thanks to my dad. (:

  • @foreverbells

Does the different font letters stand for Greatest common denominator?

  • @foreverbells Your Dad must be a very smart man?

  • @superunt43 Well I think so, he certainly has great taste in music.

  • @foreverbells If he even bothered with Rush he is both smart and has great taste.

  • @foreverbells same with my dad!!!! :)

  • @corymazz Rush makes Canada cool, man! cheers, bro

  • Do you all remember when RUSH supposedly stood for Ruled Under Satan's Hand? (circa early 1980's)

  • @bayhorse01 No way! LMAO. Geddy Lee the anti christ...I was but a young boy in the early 80s so no I never heard this...

  • RUSH makes Canada cool.

  • @bayhorse01 mmmm, ¿canada makes cool rush?

  • @codern I dont know but Im tired of seeing him

  • @bayhorse01

    Canada is cool regardless :)

  • @DennisBayazitov Indeed. I learned as a young man this was true. I have Canadian family I hold dearly. I have a Canadian/Belgian uncle my little southern American holds in the highest regard of man among men.

  • @bayhorse01 no pun

  • AMAZING BAND SAW THEM LIVE>>> WOW!

  • Rush

  • The world weighs on my shoulders but what am I to do! Love words and notes of the refrain. They stick in your head.

  • @MiloSassy2010 ACTUALLY i like rush's 80s stuff the best

Limelight, Subdivisions ( BEST SONG) .....

  • These are the best lyrics I think NP has ever written, especially the very first line

"An ill wind comes arising across the cities of the plain"

    pure awesomeness from the professor

  • Unless any commentor has built a guitar from scatch or knows the difference from a a LP, Strat or Gretsch from tone and the difference of .43 vs .42 wirings for the pickups AND the difference for the caps and knobs..... .22 vs .43 also 250K/300K/ 500K, etc......all from aural tone.....some of the comments are ignorant of guiatr music....The audio is correct...I don't know the pedigree of the vid.

  • This is a classic. Awesome complexity.

  • Took this cassette in my walkman when I went to Spain in '87, my first time flying solo, it was a great trip. Thanks Rush!

  • @drfunk911

I'm glad Rush can timeline everyone's life. Rock on.

  • Who the hell IS this idiot windbag?? Who CARES if you disagree with someone elses opinion or not? You are so fucking intelligent that you are arguing over whether BLUE isnt as good as ORANGE. What a douchebag. And YES, proof that you possess the skills of a virtuoso would be interesting to see. I certainly possess those kinds of skills, and I am ready to back it up. Are you? Sheesh, what a fucking blowhard.

  • Rush and Rush fans always remind me im not alone XD

  • This is a great song.

  • assalote oh hi just wachingb your movie

  • @ChomperTheGabite71 Never did I once post that I don't like Rush, in fact I posted the opposite. What's your problem anyway ? I constructively criticized your favorite band and you became upset about it ? Lmao, you're a child. Calling someone a moron makes you a hypocrite. Get a clue.

  • Absalom Absolom Absolom !

  • so much emotion in this song

  • i need an ipod just for all the rush tunes out...lol thanks for posting

  • Rush rocks! 19 albums pretty good by today's standards. Only band I consider more influential to me than Rush, musically speaking and groundbreaking, The Beatles, had from a minimum of 12 and up to 27 in 7 years. The band's international discography is complicated, due to different versions of their albums sometimes being released in other countries, particularly during their early years on Capitol Records in the United States.

  • This song is about Jesus pwnd

  • Distant Early Warning= DEW Line RADAR controlled by NORAD, North American Air Defense. A long line of Radars from Alaska to Greenland to England, to detect a possible Soviet attack of the USA. If any such attack were to take place, the Soviets would fly the shortest route over the pole and Canada. These guys wrote very meaningful songs, not just the same old "boy meets girl" crap. Manhattan Project on Power Windows is a history lesson, about the nuclear attack on Hiroshima in 1945.

  • @Umbra33 This song is obviously about America in the Cold War and the dread everyone felt in the midst of probable nuclear doom.

  • wow 19 freaken albums since 1974 to 2011 thats just record breaking in my eyes

  • 80's Rush is the epitome of RETRO.

  • if you've ever seen the live version from the p/g tour....at the maple leaf gardens or whatever it's called......you'll never hear this song the same again. it's unreal....enough to make yer head explode. (especially if you're high.)

  • I'm worried about you! Really...

  • my happy song...sorta

  • RED ALERT! RED ALERT!

  • this was one of my favorite Rush albums

  • i love this song

  • Their success is deserved and their down to earth attitude is a breath of fresh air in a scene which is for the most part a boob and beer circus. If I have one gripe it's that they never show up down here on the east coast of Canada. I only saw them once, I think it was the Hold Your Fire tour, but it was like my prayers were answered. They got me through high school and were a real gateway band for me into music vs. entertainment.

  • Dmais.

  • is this song about nukes?

  • Comment removed

  • lol. this jcane guy is hilarious. What a crybaby. amazing music though. I need to get all of their albums.
