  • I wish you would come to cons all over the country so more nerds like us would donate. I know we all might be a little weird, but most nerds I know have big hearts.

  • @OderuntDumMetuant Hey - great question. As you can see in the video, the only person without ethnic or blood ties to Bangladesh was Paul. And all Paul did there was help hold the camera for me. Everyone else - from the needs assessment to logistics - was pretty much handled in the field by local Bangladeshi Save the Children employees.

  • Allthought I'am alone in the room I started an applaud when the song started.

I couldn't stop clapping until I started crying...

Thank you for helping this people.

  • @Ilamarea If I could favorite a comment - I would favorite yours :) I'm glad you liked this video!

  • I commend you for your wonderful hearts in helping these people.

I am curious to know, what exactly did you provide for them?

    Rice? Tarpaulins for shelter?

    Curious.

  • @meherune If you have annotations enabled, at one point you will see an annotation that says "click to see inside". It will take you to a video call "Save the Children Warehouses". In it, I go over each and every item that was given. These were non-food items that were assembled based on input from communities in need in post-disaster situations :)

  • Tried hard to control my tears not because of the victims... I am quite used of seeing victims. nothing new for me. but what made me emotional is you. I am thankful to your parent to raise a Patriot Bangladeshi in abroad. I can guess how great they are.I wish you all the best with all my heart and my prayers will be with you. Bless you. thanks for making us proud of you. Take care.

  • GOD BLESS FOR HELPING...

  • nice

  • why don't more videos like this get featured on youtube insted of ussless crap?

thank you so much for doing this!

  • @JokkyTheManSteam How do u call this gay!u freaking idiot!

  • I have no job right now, no money to send. what can i do help?

  • @updegraff1987 The biggest way you can help is by spreading the word and sharing the videos actually :)

  • So I just found out about you and your project and I was wondering if you do something like this for everyone who donates and by something like this I mean showing the people who were helped by the donation and telling them the donors name.

  • @SloCheetah13 Hey - whenever possible I try. But it's not always possible. For example, when repairing a school, it's not possible to show who funded what screw or brick.

And, even in this video, I gave a lot of kits - but not everyone is seen in this video. It's tough - but I try my best. And real charities usually don't allow even tracking one donor to one recipient (unless it's child sponsorship).

  • @UnculturedProject wow thanks for the reply that was a lot quicker than I expected. So are you currently working on a project or what is your next project gonna be?

  • @SloCheetah13 I'm currently at home trying to network with charities to do more projects. As you can see in this video, I can't do it alone - and really do need charities to consider teaming up with me. There have been a lot of hurdles in that - but I'm plugging along. And online support helps a lot to make my case.

  • @UnculturedProject So when you're currently in between projects do you take or need donations? I ask because I'm thinking about donating to you.

  • @SloCheetah13 I do take donations. Equipment donations are useful because it's back home when I buy the most equipment (to take back with me). And I also sometimes collaborate with friends to have donations spent elsewhere when I'm away. Take a look at my video "Blankets for Peru" and "Fighting Hunger in America" for examples.

  • @UnculturedProject okay cool and thanks for putting up with my questions.

  • @SloCheetah13 No worries :) Also, please keep in mind I'm not an official charity or anything like that. I'm just a guy.

  • I always get teary eyed when I watch your videos. It's such an amazing project.

  • Thats beutiful that people still care

  • We visit Bangladesh about every year or so and every time we drive somewhere, we see poor helpless people in the streets dying :( and the cyclone just made it worse =(. And the terrible thing is, most people who live in Bangladesh that are wealthy don't even bother to care for them. I remember offering a few taka to a small child who looked about 5 and my cousin stopped me telling me that the child needs to work to earn the money...the majority of the Bengali people are so selfish!

  • tht really sad huh this people suffering ther from hard lifesand poverty and climat its so hard too a lot of naturals disasters huh...... and i think people are selfish over there bcse of ther hard lifes......

  • @coolgirl355

Actually same happens here. When I suggest it, I am told that they can work, they shouldn't beg. If they are crippled it is understood because they won't be able to work. I guess many people think that way? I don't really know. But every time someone comes to me for alms I feel really bad cause I am told not to give them anything.

  • what is the song called?

  • The middle east is in Asia and if I remember last years 7th grade geo, Bangladesh is under china, nearish to Vietnam

  • ... Yeah, but the middle east is in Asia ... Right

  • The beginning of the video was making me sad. But I just kept watching. I am glad I did.

  • I made this part of my Christmas Card this year to show people in America how good we have it and to educated American of WHAT is going on in the world around us, outside...the USA.

    God Bless ~

    Lee

  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME , hw is it anywhere near Middle East..it´s an ASIAN country.

  • @Killerquatch the middle east is in asia.

  • Awesome people doing awesome things, the world is better because of you.

  • Im not sure if its accurate but I read some 8,000 were missing. If that's true, Aila is more destructive in scale than Cyclone Sidr.

My thoughts are with the victims.

  • Yeah, I often go on the conservative side with my figures and presentation to avoid being accused of sensationalism. But yes, it was very bad. And got almost no real attention.

  • Timberland COS boots.

Have two steel plates in the sole that prevent that sort on foot injury

anyways doing good things here man, Ought to link Savethechildrens website in your more info tab, so people if they feel compelled can easily donate to your cause :)

125$ well spent. also ANSI 50 rated steel toes.

Had mine for 9 years, Mink oil every now and then and they'll last forever,

Been to the top of Mt,Washington,Mt.Chocoura,Mt Bigbear, Black Mesa,

  • And my donation page also has a section for those who wish to donate to my equipment fund. I should probably add steel bottom shoes to that list of equipment I need.

  • you are amazing! keep it up.

    so inspirational.

    -LaRhea

  • This is so touching. I started crying. This is a great cause!

  • This is so inspirational. I truly hope that we will all try and make a difference for these people and others during our own lifetimes. We truly shouldn't be calling our selves happy until we bring happiness to others.

  • awesome

  • You do good jobs. Don't stop... :)

P.S. I like music. I want know name of the song. Thanks

  • Thanks :) There were two songs used in this video. Both names and links to the artists are in the sidebar. :)

  • wheres ur donkey porn lolz

  • they dont even look happy when they revive things

  • Well many were. But this isn't Oprah - they aren't going to clap & scream like crazy like they found keys to a brand new car under their seat. They've lost a lot - their entire homes in many cases. What they received is the basics to survive the situation and temporarily shelter.

If you lost your home and all your possessions, would you be even thinking about being happy just to receive temporarily shelter and basic house items? :-/

  • Just one thing again: thank you.

  • wdf where my goddam donkey porn

  • PWN the Poverty!

    Whoo!

  • this is so great

  • Amazing work. To everyone who contributed you all are great!

  • Your Awesome Man! Its sad that the media ignored this tragedy probably due to mj's death, which makes it all the more a tragedy.

  • Thanks.

  • Great work Shawn. The video was awesome! Just a couple of questions: What was in the bags for the most part? Shoes? Tools? Pots and pans? How do they decide who gets what or are all of the bags the same?

  • There is an annotation when the bags first appear on-screen saying "click to see inside". Click that :P

  • Like Shawn said, you can watch the video entitled "Save the Children Warehouses" under his secondary account (thestudent), but each bag contains a family size mosquito net and blanket, water collection container, a large and small bucket for bathing, body soap, a tarp and rope to construct a make-shift shelter, soap to wash dishes and clothes, and candles.

  • damn, makes me want to go out there.

Dont think i could though, but you guys keep up the good work!

  • Work for Bangladesh and thats our destination.

  • Agreed.

  • It's so sad to see so many people out of home like that and in that situation... but at the same time, it's very inspirational to be able to see that so many people are willing to help them, complete strangers, out like that ^-^

Thanks so much for this video, I didn't even know this was going on...

  • you guys are great =)

  • that's wonderful.

    god bless <3

  • This video made me cry to watch.

Thank you so much for bringing this to the world's attention. It's horrible the tragedies we never hear about even though they hurt to many people.

  • Awesome video, Shawn! It's amazing how you get to do so much good out there and still have time to make such inspiring videos.

This was a very touching clip!

  • Thank you.

  • Thanks for this video, it was really inspiring. Shawn, I'm glad there's people like you in this world who help decrease world suck.

  • yet another disaster hidden by the racism of western media. "a bunch of brown people homeless with no food - thats not news". thank you for bringing the suffering of fellow human beings to light.

  • wow. thanks for posting this. you are awesome for doing this project and helping

  • I didn't even know this was going on ;__;.

Thank you for being our hope for the safety of these children.

  • Oh, wow. People like you give hope to this world. You are a special person, such an inspiration and a light in this world. If it wasn't for you, I never even would have known this incident occured. People need to see what's going on in the world around us, other than just war, and see that there is things they can do to help. Your posting this gives this issue well-needed publicity. I hope the best for those people out affected by Aila and I hope many good things come out of your caring work.

  • this was so inspiring it actually made me cry.

i hope to be able to help people in need, just like you, one day.

  • Wow. Your such an inspiration... thank you for posting this.

  • You clearly haven't forgottne to be awesome. Please continue doing so <333

  • Im from bangladesh! :D

eveytime i visit, i always see the rivers. it is IMPOSSIBLE not to lived close to a river, seeing as Bangladesh is mostly water and land. these cyclones end up happening, and they cant escape them. yu truly are an inspiration.

  • You are an inspiration! Keep it up!

  • Wow, this is so amazing! To think that everything they had was washed away. Thanks so much!

  • Im glad you posted this man people need to open there eyes to the world and its struggles and triumphs amazing work. :)

  • WOW this is some heavy stuff. I heard about it once on the news, but it was nothing like this. People need to know about this. I really respect you for doing this for them. Stay safe.

  • Probably not much on the news due to the fact of the horrible gepgraphic attributes of Bangladesh, such as it is a giant floodplain of a country so floods happen all the time; so I think news reporters just got bored in reporting "Yet another disaster in Bangladesh"

But good luck to all people affected by the cyclone I feel sorry for the people in these circumstances.

  • Wow, u know, I watch the local news every night & I haven't heard of this, unbelievable, my prayers go out to the families.

  • im from bangladesh!

    :D

  • God bless you man.

  • You are amazing Shawn. Keep up the good work and stay safe. Thank you.

  • wow.

  • nice, especially the names on the bags so people can really see where their money went.

  • Great job Shawn, i wish you the best of the lucks, i know that's not enough but still, greetings from Margarita, Venezuela.

  • Keep up the good work Shawn. I'm really proud of you. Stay safe.

  • god bless.!=]

  • powerful stuff, people helping people. Thanks for being awesome you guys.

  • Wow.

  • Hey Shawn! Your doing amazing man! Been missing your updates.

  • Great video. Reality.

  • it is important we shouldn't be throwing up money on unimportant things and waste money on luxuries. Because some where in this world a lot of people, infact, whole lot of people struggling for a dollar. A dollar could bring magics into their life. Wonderful job. The simple people shown in this video are really hard working people. Unforunate the nature is against. They don't have any where else to go.

  • You're awesome, Shawn. I don't think I have the courage to do what you do for these people.

  • This video was just heartbreaking. Awesome project!

  • thnx for the update

  • You are amazing. Seriously. You're like, a hero.

But I have a question. What can young people do to help?

  • The best way to help is to share this video and spread the message :) It's really that simple!

  • good project bro :)

  • OK So 80 families got help from random YouTubers..cool..

  • I'm trying to post a fleshed out reply to your comment but YouTube's comment system is borked.

  • keep up the great work

  • That's one way to view it. How about this - random YouTubers from around the world help those suffering from a disaster that got next to no international media coverage? Or about how that random YouTubers (and those on Twitter) helped families on very short notice (like 3 or 4 days)?

Or how about the fact that this is just one video on a channel that shows the MANY ways "random YouTubers" are helping people?

  • This is an awesome project.

You and everyone who has helped out are amazing.

  • Thanks so much for making this video. I hope that it can bring more exposure and more aid to the people suffering from the disaster.

As for the America and Israel bashing...I think it shows a very narrow world concept to generalize an entire nation by the actions of a few. Should those people who are unable to stop their government also be blamed? Furthermore, what kind of world would it be if we tossed blame in the face of aid? Take off your cynic shades, buddy--they won't help the world.

  • You know, I really wish the world had more people like you in it.

    Thanks for this, really.

  • i honestly wish i could help your a doing a good job and you will get rewarded for your help of those people

  • thank you for the video and hard work!

  • Shawn, as always, your work is an inspiration.

  • I used to be a member of STC when I was a kid and you got these sickers for doing good things and fill up these books. lol.

Twistedkandie.. check out my vid Acrassicauda - Message from Baghdad .. they had to leave their lives family and friends(most of them died or left the country) and now live in America.

  • Maybe Bangladesh is just a place people shouldn't live. I've been hearing about a disaster in Bangladesh every year for 40 years.

After some point, you just realise that that road leads nowhere.
