I like this way better than the studio version, especially the no autotune part because it takes away some of the dirt and depth from his voice, but they're both still great!
I'm to see Ron again this Sunday evening in a small show that he's doing in my very small town. Can't begin to relate how important his songs are and what a very kind and gentle soul he is. Never any guile with Ron, he talks to me or anyone with openness. Cheers.
After turning on the TV and getting immediately enthralled in the documentary Love Shines, I am hooked on Ron's music. There is something about this man that inspires hope. I can only hope that he realizes how influential his music is.
can people, especially 'wealthy' music people not have a whip around and ease this man's finacial situation, he's never had a hit song and therefore is always struggling.
yet he has produced some of the greatest music ever put out there, and is covered by the biggest and greatest names in the world of music.
FUND him and give him breathing space, too not only continue, but to feel the reward of his beautiful hardwork!!!
@jigln He continues to weaves such quality tunes in relative osbcurity, while the Ke$has of the world crank out their trash and roll in their mega millions of bucks and YouTube views, proving again that life is far from fair, and taste is a fickle and elusive thing.
Reminds me of songs from the 50's - 'story songs' that is...he did it well and in front of a tough audience = song-writers. He did it well. Graham has been song-writing since the 1960's - he spent time working for a famous NYC song-writing house in the late 60's and it was grueling work...he has paid his dues.
All those who dissed this song have ears like buckets and no heart.
This is one of the finest crafted songs I have come across in a long time. Not only that , but the singing is wonderful, and the guitar playing, fantastically appropriate.
If you understood what it was like, to have this song played everyday at work in order to BOOST morale and customer sales you'd understand why it has the opposite effect and why I've had to vote thumbs down.
@stetaxi3 - I can't upload the video here because it is not mine. Just search "love shines elvis costello ron sexsmith" - It is a 58 second clip with the thumbnail of Elvis Costello in a hat and sunglasses. Cheers!
@stetaxi3 - The level of Ron's success has bedeviled many, given his undeniable talent. Elvis Costello, a big fan of Ron, has an interesting perspective on the issue. I'll attach a short video of it in another comment. Let's hope that more people become aware of all that Ron has to offer.
I caught this Songwriters Circle on the iPlayer before it expired, excellent mix of people and songs. I then watched the film on the making of Ron's new album - amazing the number of knockbacks this guy received..
Both programmes were my first exposure to Mr S but I've since ordered Exit Strategy.. and Late Bloomer..
Good Stuff.. very Macca-esque at times. Keep em coming Ron
The show that these three gentlemen - Fran Healy, Ron Sexsmith and Graham Gouldman - put on at Bush Hall was terrific.
Very happy to see Ron Sexsmith starting to get the wider recognition that he deserves. Listen to some of his songs; the lyrics and chords are truly - and repeatedly - inspired and inspiring. Best of luck, Ron!
cant you just see the admiration in fran healys face ........the guys a legend ...long over due glory .......heres to you mr sexsmith long may you shine
@hawkworthington . Indeed. Both Fran and Graham are showing great admiration. This guy is fantastic. His singing, guitar playing and timing are impeccable. Just can't fathom how a singer/songriter of his calibre hasn't made it big time.
Wish you would come to the Sunshine Coast Ron! Love your lyrics and voice...the epitome of great songwriting.
