Why do these people who take drugs act -at best- like they're struggling to maintain appropriate everyday activities? It's like they can barely get out a full sentence. They seem like they're really pleased with themselves to be able to act like they're up to the standards of a normal person. Alexander Shulgin is so brain fried he can barely function. He can't remember anything from day to day. He's been writing the same book (his third 'tihkal' type book) for almost 10 years now.
@JasonSims1984 Seems you want to think Sasha cannot get out a full sentence but hes speaking normally and I can understand him easily. You are acting like a typing anti-drug bully.
@JasonSims1984 Brain fried = brewing precise synthetic molecules in a hundred thousand dollar lab while tripping, and then later having his findings verified by other scientists? I think not. This man is more intelligent than you can grasp, and the implications of his research left unbridled by law will revolutionize psychiatric medicine.
Have you ever tried explaining something you're excited about during a camera interview with a reporter? It can cause some stuttering in -anyone-.
Terrible! Tryptamine: Benzene Ring (6 carbons in circle), plus Pyrolle ring attached (NH2 on bottom, plus 3 carbon chain in 4 position (top right), plus 2 - CH3's (di-methyl), 2 - C2H5's (Di-Ethyl), or C5-H8 (Pentethyl). Trips relate to Pineal; Phenyls relate to pituitary (Tyrosine), phenylalalines ("Speed" or "A") to Adrenaline. EVOLUTION - since each is a more complex varient of previous! Make sense of life Shulgin - or be treated as FOOL!
@sovietmarxist hey bet a million you didnt understand alexes answer to him.grass.what do you know about aurendacea, gramacea ,pocia, stipia robusta phallaris, ect
this is really class for the shulgins to explain the chem to the reporter wihtout being condescending; the rep. sounds very uniformed by how he fumbles around the basic o chem, but hey he is a reporter, not a chemist
Shulgin enjoyed years of freedom to pursue his studies without interference from the U.S. government on what seems a tacit understanding that this be done without public fanfare. Two years after the publication of his tome "Pihkal - A chemical love story" in 1991 (sold at Virgin Records), the DEA raided Shulgin and revoked his license. I assume that Shulgin's decision to go public forever ended the hopes of anyone else with his talents and interests to ever be granted the privilege he enjoyed.
I've just started PiKal. Some of that chemistry is over my head... OK most of it is over my head. But it's really interesting what can be done by shifting an atom or two around.
As to why they are illegal while strychnine and, say, bleach are not: consolidatedbits, up above, is sorta-kinda right. Nobody is using strychnine or bleach for spiritual OR recreational purposes, so the government is fine with them.
But LSD? DMT? People might use those for fun, and we can't have that. @_@
Bleach and Strychnine do not connect us to the spirit world and set us free from the governments bullshit games - that is why they come down on these other drugs.
yeah man didnt seem like he was on their side really did it, but at least it gave them a chance to talk sense and show how calm and realistic they really are,
void, wateen you both right. but it has alot to do with the govt already knowing these things so they tend to keep things in the dark deeming them dangerous thus making them illegal. if they told people these things nobody would buy pills everything is practially derived from plants. heLLO!!
void, wateen you guys is right but it also a lot to do with the fact that the govt already know this and its better to say something like its dangerous make it illegal than to let people figure it out and make their own medicines hell almost every medicine know to man is derived from a plant.
to everyone saying hateful things about the interviewer:
he may not ask the best questions or use the right words all the time but he is curious like us and has given us the opportunity to watch the shulgins on video. Is a little respect too much to ask?
I wish governments would listen to the shulgins and provide factual information instead of propaganda. Making substances illegal will force manufacturers and users into criminality wish is even more harmfull in my opinion than legalizing and informing!
100% correct making these thing illegal A is unconstitutional, but when u make something illegal it drives up the profits for crazy ass criminals that intern corrupt gov buy guns and run ruthless empires in countries in which the economies are already worthless do to free trade llok at mexico today it's a prime example of what these drug laws really do!!
shulgins point about dangerous substances being illegal was that the government would illegalize arsenic, etc. if they actually cared about dangerous things and werent just interested in what people are capable of comprehending. what these entheogens promote is thinking and thats very dangerous to governements.
To be fair, a large population of people today can't safely consume caffeine or nicotine without losing control of their thoughts and emotions and becoming abusive and irresponsible, much less handle exposure to more powerful chemicals. In the right hands and under the right setting conditions phenethylamines and tryptamines can be a panacea of psychospiritual insight, but too many people have too many issues that make use of psychedelics dangerous. I've even seen pot put ppl in a bad place.
caffiene cause you to become uptight and feeds into anger......mdma is a love drug, if u could get someone to beat their wife on mdma ill support your arguement

what a phoney this guy is. the interviewer asks him if the drugs he studies are dangerous. shulgin says yes they are, everything is dangerous. he says arsenic and strychnine are dangerous, but there is no law against them. duh... well maybe that's because no one is motivated to ingest them looking for thrills, which is why people use lsd and other drugs.
To a chemist who has made some 5 items before this book was published, this is a bible! All the recipes are detailed enough for a chemist in a lab to easily make these but will burn down the neighborhood when tried at home. An industrial, graduate school lab with good hoods is the easy way and only safe way if you want these. All these should be legal IMHO.
I am reading PiHKAL at the moment and i am fascinated. I think I takes a lot of courage to do what Ann and Alexander do and I appreciate it a lot. Thanks for sharing this.
Because they dedicate their life to discovering compounds that can be used by all people. They make fascinating discoveries, document it and publish it for anyone to use. Shulgin in particular assayed chemicals, not on animals but on himself - for the love of science. Quite a heroic thing I would say.
Shitty youtube.. My two posts were supposed to be replies to NovakMary's post, but it didn't work properly. It's in no way meant as a critique of the Shulgins :)

What happens when you use DRUGS and Vision, you leave out EMOTION - the drugs suppress them, therefor no KARMA can be repaid from the SOUL during Journeys with Drugs, Hallucinigens, Sacred Herbs. These are the modern uses, but the Primordial Soul Journeys to the Universe are STRAIGHT UP without any need for drugs.
Obviously you have no experience whatsoever with drugs, and have no idea how they work. How can you say drugs suppress emotions? What about MDMA, which distinctly enhances distinctly emotional experiences, with enhanced empathy and feelings of warmth and security towards other people?
If you don't know how they work, try it for yourself, and then post something on here. Or read some proper studies. Who knows, maybe it will enhance your "KARMA" as well?

Now that will be interesting!
