Accents are not always dead on. Chill people. No reason to be offended. I come from the South in the US which is always stereotyped and highly embellished so to speak in most films. It's just the way it works some times. This film was made to be sold to other film markets outside of Ireland (mainly in the US) which explains the choice of actors. And like others are saying Michael's character was IRISH-AMERICAN not Irish. I've seen the film and I actually really enjoyed it.

I was really excited when I heard about this. Michael Madsen as an old Irish boxer, it really sounded fucking bad ass. but i think the movie itself wasn't as good as it could have been. they had all the elements, drop Michael Madsen and Vinnie Jones in that kind of plot, it could have been a fucking instant classic, but the film makers got wrapped up in melodrama and didn't have any real style, and it ended up just being a mediocre movie.

Some of those reviews are from when it was tested. It was recut early last year and has since won over twenty awards at festivals. I saw it in Hollywood with a few hundred people and the audience loved it. A great film, maybe not 10/10 but a definite 8 out of 10.

must have been inspired by snatch. NO tinkers would put up that kind of money, if they did the fight would get fixed by whoever was the strongest traveler gang/family as theyd stand to lose too much cash. And NO proper boxing coach would ever encourage any of his fighters to get involved in bareknukle fighting, its very diferent to ordinary boxing and with dofferent rules too and the fights are constantly interfered with and often mismatched.

Vinnie Jones is good at what he does - he acts as tough guys and he is perfectly cast as a knacker (he more or less is one!) and the snippet of him talking in an Irish accent sounds credible enough. Michael Madsen always acts as monosyllablic scary thugs as well. He was excellent in Sin City with Bruce Willis and in Wyatt Earp with Kevin Costner. Not a great movie but probably worth a look.
