It's a bit sad that some people see the world in such a pridefull and unchristian way. If you know anything about Alison, you know that she's a christian. this performance is fine. the vid itself is a bit out of sync... still fine and glad it got posted.. this led to a nice Shania tv special if i recall correctly. it was a good move on Shania's part to have the excellent Alison and Union Station back her in an 'unplugged' kind of setting. As far as why Union Station would serve as back-up to Shania?- pretty sure it was just a money thing also perhaps some exposure on national tv. @MrJburkeIV There's no shame in singing backup. Great performances all round. Live performance is so much better than a studio canned performance. You can really get a sense of the real people. I love the small errors and interplay between performers. It makes it all the more human and authentic.
@MrJburkeIV In bluegrass music there is no 2nd fiddle. Singing harmony and delivering the song is what counts. There's no such thing as background etc. It's about harmony and roles change all the time.

i love this video. not because it is a particularly great performance, but because it has this inherent evolution to it. for the first two verses shania and the band seem totally out of sinc. they are playing layed back and she seems rushed and a little outside. but you can actually see the point where she stops, feels it, and joins the band,. at about 2:40 you can see it... she starts using her hand, trying to feel the band, and she hits it. by the end they are perfect. love it.

i love this video. not because it is a particularly great performance, but because it has this inherent evolution to it. for the first two verses shania and the band seem totally out of sinc. they are playing layed back and she seems rushed and a little outside. but you can actually see the point where she stops, feels it, and joins the band,. at about 2:40 you can see it... she starts using her hand, trying to feel the band, and she hits it. by the end they are perfect. love it.

Despite that, unable to hear her own voice correctly, she manages to carry on using the ambient sound, something she learned long before she got famous by playing in one dive after another.

@lazysmurf420 She seemed fine to me......her hand motions are probably from the feel of the guitar when it's strummed, which is a basic strum pattern for ANY guitarist....root note first followed by the rest of the chord...kinda of like a boom chucka boom chucka pattern...her thumb is the boom and her fingers are the chucka!!...there's a joke in there somewhere!

It's a great song and well performed by Twain, but it's so much easier to be good with such outstanding musicians backing you up. Union Station play the song with their usual ease and elegance; they always lift up craft to artistry.

I am a big AKUS fan and backing up Shania is a low spot. Shania's cross-legged, hand wagging, praying handed to the audience, and arrogance is everything that AKUS is not. They are musicians. ST is an ego driven pop star who has been replaced many times over. Watching AKUS back up this three cord bubble gum BS is tough.

I love both of these artists but alison is not a back up singer she has her own style and although she does adapt well I like her as the front singer, I would have liked to her her verson of the shania song and maybe shania should try some of alisons old songs who knows might be wonderful.

The time is a little bit faster than Shania normally uses, but that's Union Station. She adapted pretty well. They both have beautiful voices, and beautiful faces. Those guys in the band are lucky!

Allison knows how to adapt to any singer, be it Robert Plant or Shania.. she has a gift for making her vocals come through & enhancing any other artists work. Not many singers can do that.. wow! She is also amazingly talented in her own right. Love your work Allison!
