@itjustfigures Yes, Tomita's stuff is just wonderful. Brings me back to the days of Jean Michel Jarre in the 80's.I have to thank Jack Horkheimer for turning me onto this musicians' terrific interpretations; I have almost all of Tomita's albums. Snowflakes are Dancing is the one that the theme music from Starhustler can be found on. :)
Today, 1 month after, I was just thinking that I hadn't seen Jack in a while, so I googled and found out the sad news. GUTTED! I first started watching Jack back in the mid 80s on KTEH channel 54 in San Jose right after Dr Who around 12:35am. He was a one of a kind--don't make em like this anymore!
Jack you will always be the Star Hustler and keep looking down.
OH MY GOD! I'm subscribed to Star Gazer on iTunes and I was ready to watch his five minute 9/27- 10/3 show. I was multi-tasking at the time and when the "Greetings fellow Stargazers!!" came, I noticed the voice was different. I gave it my full attention and thought "Ok Just a sub" That's when the young man said "this show was produced before our favorite star passed away."
I am in shock right now. I found this show 1 night on a fluke. The BEST fluke I ever committed. I feel like crying now. :(
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I love his voice and his enthusiasm. I always looked forward to hearing him on t.v. or radio. Thank you for enhancing my night time experience and thank you for lending your wonderful enthusiasm to my introduction of looking up to my kids.
You will be missed, but always remembered. Thanks for all your lessons and for the tour around the Cosmos with the naked eye. The wonders you shown us will be with me to this very day and beyond. My eyes will alway look towards the heaven to watch that show of show known as the Universe. In other words I will always keep looking up. Rest in peace watcher of the stars.
He helped inspire my love for astronomy. I can never thank him enough. My sympathies go out to his family, friends and fans. As someone who literally grew up watching his show I feel as if I too have lost a good friend. He will be missed.
Don't worry Jack, thanks in no small part to you, I'll certainly keep looking up and every time I point out a constellation to someone, I'll remember fondly how I first learned about them from watching you. Goodbye, Jack.
Missing ya already, Jack. I've heard you telling me about the wonders of the night sky for years. If it weren't for you, I probably would never have spent that night in college on the beach watching the Persieds. One of the best college memories I have. :)
"Want to start a Cosmic Labor Day Tradition?" Jack Horkheimer
I think in honor of the man, we should begin referring to the Summer Triangle as the Stargazer Triangle.... With the feeling felt here and all that he has done for astronomy, it seems fitting that a new Summer and Labor Day Tradition should become finding the Stargazer Triangle....

"His last will stated his mustache was to be shot into outer space. His toupee is to be used to clean telescope lenses, and then for it to be blasted towards Pluto."
Jack radiated joy, peace, and love. I was fortunate enough to see him at the Miami Science Planetarium recently, after losing my beloved mother. Please tell my beloved mother how much I love and miss her. God Bless You both! I will always think of you when I look up towards the heavens.
We should all approach our jobs with the same enthusiasm as Jack did. This is one person you CAN say no one will replace him. He was one of a kind and truly loved his job. The Cosmos has lost their greatest ambassador. Thank you, Jack. Hopefully you can now visit all these wonders in person.
First aired in the Saint Louis area before Dr. Who on the local PBS station. A friend of mine immediately began doing a spot-on impression of Jack. If you closed your eyes, you'd have swore Jack was in the room. So long, Star Hustler. Thanks for everything...CKB
My grandfather had tons of the Star Hustler vhs tapes, I loved watching them even though we lived right in the middle of the city and could barely see any stars at night.
You will be missed, Jack. Please know that your influence was far reaching... I used to watch your show whenever I was allowed to stay up late (for some reason PBS Buffalo would air your segment just before they would sign off, in the 80's). I credit you as one of my influences for my love of astronomy.
What a wonderful gift he had, so many inquisitive spirits kindled. His infectious enthusiasm will continue to urge me and countless others to look up!

The theme music is Arabesque #1 by Claude Debussy. This version, however, was performed by Isao Tomita.

Debussy - Arabesque #1 for piano
but the version on Star Gazer was done by Kitaro, I think.
