  • I get emotional during this song. wonder why?:>

  • 1:04 is like straight out of a mario game xD really cool!

  • @GnRandAVGN I think it sounds like something from Pokémon Ruby :P

  • @GnRandAVGN More like a Zelda game to me. Say Wind Waker.

  • it reminds me of some zelda or nintendo songs :) Very nice!

  • and this is not my account i do not have one

  • abstract thinking's i like in bands like dream theater, rush, and even Metallica uses prog influences mostly in their masters and ...and justice albums

  • PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT THINK ABSTRACT IDEAS LIKE IF ELEMENTARY PARTICLES INTERACT TO FORM PROTONS NEUTRONS ATOMS MOLECULES STRANDS ORGANISMS THEN EVENTUALLY A CONSCIENCE WITH SELF AWARENESS I SAY WERE WERE THE NEXT COMPLEX THING THE ELEMENTARY'S CRATED, WHO SAY ITS ALL RANDOM, YES ITS RANDOM, BUT HUGE PROFITABILITY SAYS ITS MIND AS WELL DESTINE TO HAPPEN WELL, THAT'S PHYSICS AND WELL CEASE THIS PHYSICAL FORM AND A WE WILL BE PURE ENERGY OR I SAY A CONSCIENCE BRANE DIMENSION

  • IF YOU THINK OF IT MOST HUMAN CONCEPTS ARE JUST TO PROCEED THE WORLD AROUND US, IN THE LONG TERMS THE VISUAL WORLD YOU SEE DOESN'T EXIST SO HAHAHAHAHA ------------LAUGH AT MY OWN HUMOR

  • sorry for spelling

  • A PERSON INTROVERTED AND KNOWS WHAT OTHERS DO IN INTERACTIONS AND -GRAPHS- THEM TO MAKE SENSE IN THERE WORLD

  • I listen to this 5 times a day.

  • Fuck it, we'll do it live. Shit, nevermind.

  • One of my favorite songs ever, not just by Dream Theater. A true masterpiece. You don't see music much like this anymore.

  • Fantastic info section included.

  • a bitch to download

  • @GetFuckingAngry

    It's worth it!

  • Best 3 minute outro ever.

  • Dream Theater really live up to their name. This song is as good as it gets :D

  • 7:03 glasgow kiss???

  • Day 50: Running out of food and water. Doesn't feel legs. Intro just ended.

  • Change from normal speed to 1/4 speed, see how much you like this song after THAT!

  • just like a movie

  • My favorite and first album I bought from DT.I play this during scenery's when I have road trips. Makes the whole experience more awesome

  • so epic....

  • Is it weird that the lyrics scares the crap out of me?

  • After hearing this song twice in a row now every 1-5 minute songs are nothing..

  • @TutosAnkara LOL thats so true :P

  • @TutosAnkara Hearing Overture alone makes most songs seem insignificant.

  • @TutosAnkara The minimal amount of time for songs to me is 5 minutes. lolz.

  • You know you've listened to this a lot when you can memorize the Drums, Keyboard, AND Singing and could play them at the same time if you had extra arms =[

  • Too fucking EPIC to be that SHORT. This should last forever with no ending.

    I'd listen to this 30 times a day, but that's Impossible NOOOOO~

I'll ALWAYS love this song and Dream Theater.

  • how can i ever listen to a 4-5min. song again :o

  • four degrees are enough, goodnight kiss sucks and solitary shit is the single biggest turd dream theater has ever shat out! fuck I hate that song

  • @LMTR14 Then I'd recommend you to listen to the parts.. and not the whole song.

  • @Kriha123 I do, they match up quite well actually

  • @LMTR14 Yes, But indeed. Some of the degrees are better than the others.

  • Hey Dream Theater fans, please let me know what you think of my own prog rock opera! :) watch?v=i26VdsuiSGQ

  • @moelb31 Actually pretty nice, great work, just subscribed :)

  • I think i'd rather watch a full length episode of Walker Texas Ranger than sit here all day lol.

1:07 reminds me of Animal Crossing for some reason, what the HELL? -___---"//_-

  • Too short

  • @MlKEPORNTOY hello mr porntoy

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Well well, it's the almighty Mike Porntoy in person....

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Just like your dick. OH SNAPZ!!!11!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, this is my new favorite band. Its like when i first heard it, it was addicting. I need more.

  • I'm gonna fuck with my friends and have this played at my funeral someday.

  • is it OK to cry when I listen to this song?

  • @hovsey Of course it is! This song wonderfully brings out our emotions. Hell, I get teary-eyed when I listen to "Goodnight Kiss"! It's okay :)

  • @hovsey As a music therapist, I am going to say it is perfectly healthy to cry. I sure did, as I think mental ilnesses are not always looked at as real illnesses in society, and was glad to hear songs address it not as a joke, but how people might actually feel.

Though the Autism reference is incorrect-it is more a general social spectrum disorder or Asperger's Syndrome...one of the key criteras for Autism is a delay of verbalization/speech development.

  • @catmeowlover Asperger's Syndrome.is a type of autism, so there not fully incorrect they just need to be more narrow down

  • @SUPEROKEEM1 Yes and no. Autism and Asperger's are both on the spectrum, but Asperger's is not a type of Autism. I've worked with both disorders, and they are not the same. :)

  • @catmeowlover well i'll be more blunt, for some reason there's this thing called autism SPECTRUM that consists of -------------1. autism 2. Asperger syndrome 3. Childhood disintegrative disorder 4.Rett syndrome and others , it is confusing, so i say yes Asperger syndrome isn't in autism , but is in the autism SPECTRUM, weird and makes no sense,BECAUSE A LOT OF WHAT HUMANS DO AND INCLUDING THESE CLASSIFICATIONS ARE HUMAN CONCEPTS SO YOU SHOULD SAY WHAT COMES WITHIN YOU

  • @SUPEROKEEM1 Why are you using all caps? Are you trying to maintain a level of dominance or aggression? Or just be annoying/rude?

Let ME be blunt then. They are all Pervasive Development Disorders. If you turn to page 69 in your DSM (assuming you have one, though I am figuring you just wikipedia'ed it), you'll see that they are not labeled as "AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS and should not be thought of in that way. I'm sorry if my term of spectrum confused you, but I mean PDD spectrum.

  • @SUPEROKEEM1 And in regards to your last statement on how I should say what comes witnin you, I did not follow you, and responding as a professional. My "inner" self says that individuals with Autism and Asperger's are NOT the same, and it is offensive and a shame that people try to lump and confuse the two. I'm also frustrated with how people simply google something and think they understand psychology, because Rett is not like Autism, and internet sources are not always correct.

  • @SUPEROKEEM1 Lastly, as someone who personally has disabilities and disorders, I may not like the stereotypes that go along with them, I am thankful these human concepts and titles exist because it allows me to interact with a community who know what I personally go through and to get the help I need.

Sorry if my orgin post was confusing; I've been sick :(. Please don't be a smart ass, especially since you were not accurate. I think the song is fantastic, and that's the main point! Peace!

  • thumbs up if a fourm game brought you here

  • JUST NOT BORING!! 42 MINUTES OF MADNESS.

  • Aaahh, I need this song for my spirit. Without this, I can't live my life....

  • EPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIC !

  • Is there a version of this without the skips?

  • The only, ONLY problem about Dream Theater: LaBrie can't sing live. Else than that, it's potentially the best band ever...

Even though I'd say Opeth is better =P

  • @PaoloBaixista Actually, Labrie has gotten his voice back (from that food poisoning thing back in the 90s) and has been MUCH better live 2011-2012.

  • @scullyy Yeah, sure it took a long while for him to come over that incident. Maybe he's managing to perform live better nowadays.

  • @PaoloBaixista Find out yourself, there are quite a few live performances from that period here on youtube

  • @PaoloBaixista i thought live scenes from new york was the best live cd ever

  • To those 34 people who disliked this song: You sir, have no taste in music

    GOOD DAY >:c

  • I just got 20 eargasms by listening this song!

  • by far the best way to spend 42 mins

  • amazing :D

  • Alright, one last comment for this vid for a while.

God DAMMIT the opening riff for "About to Crash (Reprise)" is too F*CKING epic.

Probably my favorite part of the whole song.

  • Man... Solitary shell reminds so much of myself.

  • @muhammadyousuf1 It's about autism.

  • @Yossome and i think bipolar disorder as well

  • @Haloplayer20 I was just referring to Solitary Shell. But yeah, About to Crash is about bipolar disorder.

  • Petrucci, Myung, Portnoy, Rudess and LaBrie. We are not worthy.

  • So, I went out to go see a movie, then I met this chick, I went to her place, got laid, eventually got married, then came home and this song was just ending.

  • @CollinExplosion you were in vegas weren't you????

  • When you read the description, and listen to the song, it might make you wanna cry. :'(

  • Fucking hate my internet connection

  • I wish it was longer.

  • its epic how this dude takes the time to inform us all about the song in the description

  • @slashes1122 The discription is almost as long as the song.

  • EPIC!

  • Not to be a dick or anything, but the description's wrong. Grand Finale starts at 38:19, not 39:26

  • i want THIS played at the opening to the 2012 olympic games :D

  • @hiddenbutdeadly I've always thought that the overture would have been a perfect music for olympic games xD

  • @hiddenbutdeadly all 42 minutes of it would make for one interesting olympic opening! xD

  • @hiddenbutdeadly GREAT IDEA! YOU ARE F***ING SO RIGHT MAN!

  • @toxxxic111 @Fezek0 It's an internet joke, like when something is very long, you say "the book was better"

  • @ferchox00000 Oh, thanks!

  • Six Degrees Of Inner Flatulence

    Pull My Finger

    The Silent But Deadly Man

A Rite Of Passage Of Gas

  • What fuckin book???

  • Does it sound like LaBrie's saying, "Texting danger with each word I say" to anyone else?

  • Absolutely stunning, I fucking love DT.

  • Zelda and Final Fantasy with combinations of Mario and Metroid lol

  • just...wow

  • Tags-Longest song ever- so true

  • PS - I will add as far as a middleground 'sampling' of all their flavours, this disc is not BAD, but it's just that, middleground plain prog DT-as-usual most of the time, instead of enhancing the mix by merging the progressive and metal elements together and not separating them like a discontinuous and overlong buffet. On listening to this again I think Goodnight Kiss is gorgeous too. Doesn't change the fact it feels like they were trying to out-do Scenes here and really overdid it.

  • I have a difficult time with this album. Bar a few really strong highlights (Glass Prison, Great Debate, Test That Stumped Them All) - it seems that the band suffered from major over-reach here. Is it just me or is it best when they keep things either tighter or heavier (Train Of Thought), or with more solid and emotional concepts (Images, Awake, Scenes, and the new album), instead of being too pop or following Portnoy's OCD (Octavarium through Black Clouds). Am I alone in thinking this?

  • Rock -> Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus, Outtro

Prog Rock -> [ The music happens here ]

  • I personally don't mean to offend any hardcore DT fans out there, but I think "War Inside My Head" was cut a bit short on this track. It goes into the epic opening to "The Test That Stumped Them All" a bit too soon, or so I think. Not saying Mr.Portnoy doesn't know how to cut music, im just saying that "The Test That Stumped Them All" came in a bit too early.

  • @sinisterfeind I think that way, too.

  • Solitary shell is definitely my favourite part of the song

  • this is an orchestra this is not heavy metal

  • @morkinor It's neither. Or both. It's PROG, man. Also, orchestra and metal can coexist. Symphonic metal is my other favourite genre, next to prog!

  • 02:27 I want to live in america I want to live in america

  • correction: solitary shell is an aspie. walk and talk on time.

  • 19:52 is nice.

    and THANK YOU @kyledawg92 !

  • 42 fu**king minutes mother of God O.O

  • The "Dark Side of the Moon" of Dream Theater...

  • @CuriousComposer i would say that's octavarium

  • @boomaslang Maybe even Scenes from a Memory, too.

  • I wish the War Inside My Head segment was longer, but however, this is THE best song ever!

  • WWAAAARRR IIINNNNSSIIIIIDDDDEEEE MMMMMMAAAAHHHH HHHHEEAAAAADDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 24:01 --> Petrucci is bringing out my soul from my body. Enchanting.

  • One of my favorite Dream Theater'song, and the best album for me!!!!!!

  • why there is an end in this song?

  • challengeaccepted.jpg

  • Best epic DT song in mho.

  • DREAM THEATER Y U END SONG ?

  • Is that a keyboard or a guitar at 26:30?

  • @Drumwannabe17 key board with a guitar back ground

  • @Drumwannabe17 It's actually keyboard, you can see it on a live video.

  • @Drumwannabe17 keyboard pertucci switches to acoustic

  • muito foda essa musica

  • some of it sounds like video game music

  • I use this to celebrate the New Year =D

  • @darkjoker123321 This song is not a part of the 12 step suite

  • This is the longest song in history

  • @666slipmaiden1 haha, yeah. no.

  • @666slipmaiden1 Dream Theater's twelve step suite is 10 minutes longer

  • Comment removed

  • @darkjoker123321 The Twelve Step Suite is also technically not one song like this.

True they're all supposed to fit together, but each part is it's own song respectively.

The way that this is split up, the "parts" are actually parts.

  • @666slipmaiden1 The Incident by Porcupine Tree is almost 15 minutes longer

  • @666slipmaiden1 Dream Theater - 12 Step Suite [58 minutes]

Transatlantic - The Whirlwind [78 minutes]

Porcupine Tree - The Incident [55 minutes]

Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness [60 minutes]

    Echolyn - mei [49 minutes]

Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray [55 minutes]

    Neal Morse - ? [56 minutes]

Jethro Tull - Thick as A Brick [45 minutes]

The Flower Kings - Garden of Dreams [59 minutes]

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells [49 minutes]

  • @VexType Still alot more

  • @666slipmaiden1 (Continued)

Mike Oldfield - Incantations [72 minutes]

Mike Oldfield - Amarok [60 minutes]

    Meshuggah - Catch-33 [47 minutes]

    Porcupine Tree - Voyage 34 [70 minutes]

    Dopesmoker - Sleep [60 minutes]

    Dream Theater - Scenes From a Memory(Kinda a full song) [77 minutes]

... and some more that I can't remember off hand.

  • It's so stupid compare Dream Theater withs gods!!!! Ok. They are awesome and all. But they are not Dream Theater!!!

  • @Xirukah

    fag

  • The book was better

  • @ferchox00000 what book? :o

  • @11833hallo don't you understand it's a joke?

  • @ferchox00000 Epic Comment, but I prefer the song ;)

  • @ferchox00000 I feel like an idiot for asking this, but what book?

  • @Fezek0 it's a pun...

  • longest song ive ever heard

  • i came here thinkin that if i kept the "snow: thing on it would fill up my screen by the end of the song.....the snow kept melting :( atleast i got 42 minutes of greatness

  • And this, my friends, is what the Ancients called "pure talent".

  • If this song were converted into inches, it would be Mike Portnoy's penis.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Lmfao that is GENIUS!

  • I love the part that sounds like Super Mario 64.

  • LOve DT! wondered if someone could explain to me the meaning of this sad song "goodnight kiss". My english is not so good and dream theater is so poetic.... ^_^ THX

  • @vincejustice4all It's about a mother who's lost her child at birth, and is suffering from "post partum depression" (4th degree of inner turbulence), the mother blames herself for the loss, at one point she blames the doctor's ("Those bastard doctors are gonna pay") The baby crying and the doctor laughing is in her dreams. The song also suggest that she has lost babies at birth at several occasions. There ya go :)

  • @TheRiffCalendar ok, thanks a lot!

  • this song is too damn short.

  • i think we can all agree that this song is so far ahead of perfection that it can be called a musical master piece, and that is something rare, there are just a few songs we can say this about, i myself have never heard annything like this. and at the end of it i was completly blank, i could not even stutter a word or think. the only song that can even come close to this so far for me is the black page by frank zappa. and that is because of the pure perfection in the black page, it is not even

  • @killsau close to this song.

    Use Dax!!!

  • Every time I hear bells in this song, I think of Christmas

  • ganyàn, no les talles!!

  • How the heck can they remember all this music?!

    It's awesome. :D

  • @TheRicosity1000 Dream Theater is just too good.

  • love it very much

  • :Challenge Accepted:

  • I think this song is too short!

  • It's so short!
