All except the Old Rod. I wanted to beat Brock too, you know. Trading Magikarp would had yield more exp, it won't obey. That's why I did it. About the other items, I collected maybe around 20 Nuggets from Nugged Bridge. Stashed Magikarp on PC, killed my squirtle a lot. Every time i went a battle, I got a Nugget worth of 5k. every time I needed money I sold Nugget, all revives, TMs and other completely unnecessary items.

"Struggle" is a move when you are left out of PP,and it's capable of hitting ANYTHING,i repat,anything,including ghost types. That's why he was able to defeat that haunter. Hope it's clear.

Not really, just save two extra turns. I would have need to heal ~80-100 damage, Arcanine would have used an Extreme Speed and next turn on Flamethrower.

IIRC, lv.5 and got from a water before of Viridian forest. There's even a video where I capture it by fishing. The Old Rod were cheated so I could get Magikarp before the first Gym. There were no other codes used on this run (no exp codes, no other item codes, no money codes, etc). I could have gone entrance of a Mt.Moon and could have bought Magikarp for a 500 cons or something, but I also wanted to dominate Brock with my Magikarp.

Grinding at the begin of the game were most afwul thing on the run. This run started to be a little easier after Magikarp learned Flail. Random Ghost Pokémons at ome Trainer battles were terrible slowdowns too. IIRC, 3 nights at the DayCare gave a lot levels to that Magikarp (I jammed directional pad to walk into an arrow that pushed me back to gain steps which gave me exp while I was asleep).

The run was so fun that I did it also on Platinum. Too bad I couldn't record it.

Maybe about 50 levels got from DayCaring (about 60-80 hours maybe), around 30 levels got from normal battles. Last levels got by using all in-game found Rare Candies (iirc I might have used couple of 'em to get lv.20 faster).
