Early, early one morning, after a night with "my dear dark head".... almost 40 years ago...and "all is changed, changed utterly"...oh thank you for that revisited time. So beautiful.
There is - iTunes hard to find though. Use both English (The Coolin') and the Gaeilge (An Chuillfhionn for search - variety of versions. I particular love Finbar Furey playing it on the Uileann pipes - can't find that one though. Have heard him play it live (concert/pubs in Dublin). WAW - Absolute magic - nothing out there to beat it!!!!
I deplore the tendency to produce english versions of gaelic songs. Apart from the tune ( my favourite) its charm lies in the simplicity of its sentiment. As to it being sad - how can a young man who has the love of such a beautiful woman be sad? It is indeed sad that the original words are lost and ironic that it is now mainly sung by female artistes. Originally it was a young woman protesting that she would always choose her fairhaired warrior before a dandified clerk.
@bairen2002 I don't personally want a copyright but maintain that anyone 'adapting' someone elses work should have good reason for doing so and acknowledge the source. People have been burglarising houses from time immemorial - that doesn't make it a commendable activity.
Beautiful::::!! I love this song especially when sung in Gaelic. I sing the English version "The Last Glimpse of Erin" but the Gaelic is so perfect. My Gaelic is not perfect!! The singing is very sweet and absolutely delightful.
The Coolin by my late Father Bill Walters /watch?v=P8oGiCgaCG0 enjoy..

A lovely song. *****
The words of the second verse as sung differ slightly from those printed :-
An bhfaca tú an speirbhean si na sui ris an taobh
Fáinní óir ar a méara sí ag réiteach a cinn?
'Sé dúirt an Phaorach a bhí ina mhaor ar an loing
Go mb'fhearr leis aige féin í ná Éire gan roinn

Do you want to impose some sort of "copyright" on gaelic tunes?
Musicians everywhere have borrowed and adapted tunes [stolen them, if you like] from each other since time immemorial.
