  • lexus = luxury toyota.

  • aye dickhead were you paid by buick to do a review? lexus let you have it coz they knew the consumers would speak for themselves and tell you how much a sc is better than ya shit riviera .. and no both dont have good looks .. only the SC does .. you think both have performance? bring out the V8 version against ya shitty performance ..

  • I had a Buick riviera sc and it was very unreliable. It was a POS! I now own a Lexus sc300 and I love it!!! I got 240,000 miles on it and runs like new. I cant believe anyone can say the riv is beter than the lexus, thats bullshit! Not hating just calling it like I see it.

  • did he just call an inline 6 a v6 what a dumb ass he knows nothing about cars

  • ive owned both cars

id have to say the Lexus was the better car

  • The Lexus: Ultimate car for feminine men with "size issues".

  • You can drift in a Sc300...

  • It's still a piece of shit just like you . I'm bad with spelling but I ll tell you something thu I sure know how to spell go fuck yourself . How about now? Did I stay in topic ? Idiot

  • Pure propaganda.

  • the lexus wins i seen a bunch of riviera in junk yards

  • i hope the LF-LC is anything like this and a LFA sex child lol

  • Hating on the Lexus. Sc300 is way better

  • lol i watched this and said WTF,but then i seen its a Buick division sales training video, but they forgot to say the Riviera is a POS and in 10 years it would be worth 800 dollars!!!lol 2JZ all the way!!

  • It literally offends me reading these comments and some of you fucking retards are cheering on the Buick Riviera? Is this some kind of sick joke?? The Riviera is a piece of shit compared to the Sc300. I personally own an Sc300 and its a LUXURY BRAND, SUPRA ENGINE, DRIFT CAR. Unlike this piece of shit Riviera. You can find one of these " 97 rivieras" for like 500 bucks on craigslist."Fuck all of you Riviera owners who are attempting to downtalk an SC300 your fucking poor and stupid.

  • @D15TUR83D1

LOL Calling the soft Lexus suspension Drift Car. Shows what you know. :p

  • this was an unfair comparison lol atleast run it against an eldorado they did the riviera dirty on this because the riviera is a nice car but puting it up against a sc is just like putin a 7 series bmw against a deville its not an even comparison

  • if they were 8 cylinders, simple math came out to

    Sc 300 300 hp

    Mark 8 280 hp

    Riv 272.8hp

    Riv SC 312.8 hp

of course if the mark and Sc300 had same supercharger extra lets say 35hp.

lets get 3 cars for old fashion drag race then put it all to rest =)

  • If you old and don't want to look nice, buick is the way to go

  • sc300 not v6 its a inline 6

  • Ok, so I've learned that Buick beats Lexus because its roomier and cheaper. I can make the same argument with my Kia Sephia ~GOTCHA Lexus I'm better than you!

  • Comment removed

  • I really do not know what they are talking about when they say that the SC300 is stylish..... that is a vile, disappointing looking machine. I've seen more style in a Ford Focus then that SC300. If someone were to say to me "i've just bought you an SC300" i would either laugh at them and tell them to take it back (though that's mean) or i would accept the gift of a fucked up looking R-tarded car then take to the nearest person dumb enough to buy it and use the money to get a Riviera, case closed

  • Okay lets be real here, the guy might be 5"10 but he moved the seat back like hes 6"10. Im 6"3 and own a 98 sc and there is enough room for passengers in the back. Also the sc's looks are still modern, and people always ask me what year it is bc it looks so new, while the riviera looks like a car from the 80's.... SC ALL THE WAY! ohh and did i mention that with regular maintenance this cars engine will not die on you? Fact.

  • Then why don't you buy a Supra?

  • @Bboyblackout

    Here are the SC300 fails:

1.Its made in Japan, and parts for it are retarded expensive, contrary to the L67.

2.Lexus is just a glorified Toyota, always have been period.

    3.You can't tell me you'll enjoy a long drive in an SC300

4.Longevity??? They only made a limited number of Riviera's over the course of 4 production years 95-99.

    5. I don't see any 97 SC300's on the road anymore.

Not downing on Lexus... well okay maybe a little...

  • @TheKlixer

Dick head, its made in Japan hence more reliable then plastic American toy cars,

Lexus is a glorified Toyota... Thats why they are still in Market today with super sports cars such as LFA,

Can't enjoy SC300... afford one, drive one to Know,

Logevity.... The Styling was so impressive That it continued 91 - 2000, n still one on the best things on Four wheels unlike vomit face Riviera,

Don't see SC300 on road.. May be u blind or living in a pot Hole.

    Soaring Lexus... Hell Ya !!

  • @ahujaprateek "1997 SC300" if I must re-iterate because your to stupid to comprehend then I will put it more plainly. I don't see ANY 1997 SC300's. Last time I checked Riviera's aren't made from plastic, point of fact they never were. Secondly how can you equate the LFA in to this discussion, you'll never afford 1 and its not even close to an SC300 aside from the badges it wheres. So enjoy your glorified Toyota. Toyota/Lexus recall any1? Watch that sticky gas pedal it only killed sum people.

  • @TheKlixer BWAHAHA! ...nice! btw, the "sticky gas pedal" was cause by a damn floor mat that was 2 inches too long (per - vp engineering dept of Toyota) Still... I just love the 92 SC300 thanks to it's 2jz "Supra Engine" :-)

  • @TheKlixer Craigslist riviera and sc300 or or 400 and get back to us. Btw the sc is mad compfortable. I daily drive a 400.

  • The smug reviewers also forgot to mention that the Buick is front-drive while the SC300 is rear-wheel drive. And then there was calling the Lexus engine a V6 instead of an inline-six that shared the same exact architecture as the Supra.... which was at the time still campaigned in Japanese racing series.

The Buick really competes with all that, huh?

It's just sad that this video represents the prevailing attitudes America had about cars at the time. Then we lost all the best sporty cars for

  • "The SC300 features a 3liter DOHC v6." #Fail.

  • If you got this POS over a 97 M3 E36 back in 97 you failed!

  • cmon who would really take a riviera over a sc300 lol maybe grandpa

  • @shadowspiyre99 Maybe your grandpa, but not mine.

  • @genericallyaccepted lol i guess it all depends on the age if i was old enough to be a grandpa id still want the sc lol

  • I was gonna come on here and trash the Buick, but the Riviera really isn't a bad GT coupe at all...it's just that this model SC is such a great car even today

  • Fuck buick

  • The Only Advantage a Rivera has over a SC is it's Huge....so the interior is roomy.....compare them overall and the Rivera looses..

  • The SC300 has a 2JZGE and that is not a straight 6, not a V6, kind of a big difference...

  • @oddguy314 inline 6

  • look at vid in line 6

  • Truly the SC300 takes a back seat to none of it`s competition, to this day I think the SC series is the cleanest car Lexus has ever built and their owners absolutely Love them!......Buick looks clueless by calling out a legend, how many of those Riviera have you seen lately?

  • I'm sorry to say how idiots can they be . First of all you can't compare a Lexus with a domestic disposable vehicles . I'm sorry to say again that domestic vehicles are just disposable and they lose value the first year. The SC300 or 400 that I have seen has will above 200k miles . The rivera is available in all junk yards . Go to the junk yards and everything will explain itself. See how many domestic cars in the junk yard compare to imports . I have owned Lexus all my life I couldn't b

  • who the fuck compare a toyota to a buick??

buick is garbage and always will be

that heavy piece of shit that they think there comparing a toyota soarer to is bullshit

the buick looks like a deformed whale

i would rather walk than drive one of the pieces of garbage

plus we all know toyotas and japanese cars in general are much better than american garbage

  • @norcal2jz buik wasnt so bad i liked the regal gnxes and the new regals look sexy

  • Notice the reporter is wearing a buick jacket !! racist bastard the SC had no justice

  • all they do is talk about Riviera's torque, but what about the extra 200 kg of weight it has to haul?

  • 2JZ > 3800 Series II

  • Last time I checked, the SC300 in an INLINE 6, and not a V6. Great research boys.

  • They're different cars. SC300 is a sporty gt while the riviera was a strong cruiser. I just bought a riviera and so far I've loved it. I like the look of the SC300 and the idea behind it but as used cars.....no contest, the supercharged V6 is a real screamer to boot. I also like the uniqueness of the riviera. The SC looks handsome for sure....but a tad plain. The Riv just has a level of presence you don't get in a lexus.

Also I'm 6'2" and the SC was not what I want to be in for long distances

  • I had a Riviera in 99. My buddy just bought a 96 SC300 as a beater car. No contest - the Buick was the better car.

  • its a coupe not a fucking family car who cares if the kids dont fit in the back of the sc..

  • what the hell is a "personal choice" option? ...driver lumbar support? the sc had that since 92..lol

  • Note that the only interior comparison presented is "roominess." This is actually a smart sales strategy, since any reference to fit-and-finish would cater to a Lexus strength. Notice how there are no close-up shots of the Riviera's interior. Even from the one wide-angle shot in the video, you can tell how much shinier the Buick's plastics are. Shiny=cheap. The Lexus was built to the standard of European luxury cars of the time, that's why it was more expensive.

  • I've experienced both ends of the spectrum, from the Buick (1997) to my current vehicle, my Lexus (1992).

Both cars had similar lives. Bought by retirees, well maintained, and driven responsibly.

By this time, both cars are still around. I sold my Riviera to my stepbrother, and bought my Lexus. Both at $1K.

My Lexus has only 15K miles more on it than the Riviera, but the Lexus runs much stronger.

You want a reliable car for the long run? Lexus.

    A wheel-spinning toy? Rivera.

  • there is no comparison. buicks are shitboxes and lexus are reliable vehicles that inspire confidence

  • WOW!! The riviera's supercharged 3.8L V-6 only manages a measily 15 more hp the the lexus's N/A 3.0 L I-6?!?! That's pathetic. Alot of GM fans love the 3.8 V-6... I don't see why, they deliver pitiful performance #'rs and sound like shit while doing it.

  • The SC300 definitely has a 3.0L I6 not a V6. dipshit..

  • I like American cars and all but the riviera looks ugly and why would they even compare the sc300 to the supercharged riviera compare the sc400 to it and it would destroy the riviera. You can have a sporty Lexus or your grandfathers buick I choose Lexus

  • And another thing, how much passion went into the design and engineering of the SC series? Listening to Erwin Lui and Dennis Campbell talk about the artistic design and emotional effort that was put into the car makes me want to be a part of it. A car built by people who "get it". Gm continues to push cars to market to mass produce; plastic dashboards, cheap materials, horrible design cues, lack of character. The Riviera is a cheap production car. The SC is a work of art.

  • One of the most biased reviews I have ever seen. Watching a Riviera slalom cones... right... It's a soft suspension luxury liner, which uses the reliable 3800, its not in any way a sports coupe. The 2JZ is extremely comparable to the N/A 3800, and both are incredibly reliable and stand up extremely well to boost. How are they not going to compare the supercharged 3800 upgrade to the Lexus equivalent upgrade - the 1UZ? I'm a GM person, but I was face palming through the entire segment.

  • hahaha, Man those guys can almost sell those cars seriously. Wait, which company went bankrupt again?

  • Here are the Riviera's fails.

    1. Its Fwd!

    2. Its not as stylish as the SC.

    3. Even with the supercharger ts underpowered.

    4. The transmission were garbage on those cars.

    5. And longevity. How many SC's do you see compared to Riviera's?

Im not downing the Riviera, im just stating facts.

  • @BboyBlackout then why is it proven better????

  • @ianater900 Ok. It was proven a bit better then but what about now. I do not see many rivieras on the road now a days. I do see sc300's and 400's.

Now since the Buick was fully loaded why didn't they compare it with the sc400?

Also let's talk about the new buicks. If they were such good cars why did gm turn to Toyota to build them? Yup. That Buick regal that they are hyping up is just a Toyota camry with Buick badges. Now let's sit and think about those few things.

  • @BboyBlackout now listen, i really do not like the new buicks at all. but i think in the 90's they had a good selection of vehicles. and the sc300 looks like a bubble... the riviera dosent. it was designed for areodynamics, if you see. the sc300, just for looks... not speed.

  • @BboyBlackout The Buick Regal is made by Opel, its European not Japanese. The Japanese own the rights to the name Buick Century which was sold as the Regal in Japan, and the shittyest Buick ever. Get your facts straight.

  • @TheKlixer And where did they get the design from? Lexus. Look at the new regal and look at the es. Its the same car. also dosnt checy use vvti now a days? Hmm.

  • @BboyBlackout

    Here are your fails.

    1. You're an idiot.

    2. There's an apostrophe the word "it's".

    3. Learn how to spell the word "is".

    4. Understand how to use the word "was".

    5. Oh, and you're an idiot.

I'm downing you. I'm just stating facts.

  • @taker1z That's your ace in the hole? My spelling and grammar? Your an idiot because you cant stay on topic. Now that is another fact. Oh and btw, way to go trolling the topic reply's just to start beef. Wow, i love internet thugs.

Back on topic, the upkeep on riviera's are bad. I had one. I also had a gtp. With the gtp i had less headache and better performance. I now own a sc400.

  • @BboyBlackout Maybe you had bad luck with that car. I have never had any problems with my 1997 Riv.

  • Comment removed

  • @BboyBlackout Back on topic the sc400 (the car they should of compared) has a non-interface engine. It means if the timing belt snaps you can install a new one and re_time the motor. If the timing belt snaps in a riviera snaps its to the yard ya go for a new long block.

  • @BboyBlackout They didn't make that many Rivieras to begin with. the last year they were made in 1999, they only made 1800 of them.

  • @BboyBlackout love those haters

  • @BboyBlackout number 2 is not a fact, its can just be an opinion in taste =)

  • @BboyBlackout The only fact you stated was that the Riv is FWD.. the rest is opinion. That said, Idk how the Riv can be compared to a lux brand like Lexus. The advantage of the Rivieria in 97 was that it was a lot cheaper new, and had more passenger room. Prob also weighed 800 more pounds, and was a lot less sporty. The Lexus is made by a maker whose standards are a lot higher, while the Riv is a reach for a non-luxury brand who was trying to make something much nicer than it was used to. js

  • i love how he says it has a dohc v6, what a dumb fuck! L6 buddy.. god damn he is one stupid car salesmen. this is the most biased comparison ive ever seen. all they do is try to bash the SC to make their FRONT WHEEL DRIVE GRANDPA CAR SEEEM COOL!

  • I love my SC300.

  • Inline-six, moron. Ahahaha.

  • Buick Rivera compare with sc300 ? it's cool to try tell the American ppls buy American ..But....Buick Rivera ???? ...GTF outta here!!!

  • @UFCextra....are you stupid?, if you don't know go read a book or do research before you come online and type dumb shit. As stated before, how many revieras do u see on the roads, almost none, they're in the junkyards donating parts for other rivieras that's about to be in the junkyard. You obviously don't know about the Lexus/Toyota company, so please don't make statements about something you have no facts to support.

  • This guy should go back to school the sc300 doesn't have a v6 its a inline 6 cylinder. the riviera has to have a supercharger just to keep up with a stock 2jz-ge which is the n/a of the supra. plus gm engines are like shit cuz they r not made to last. the 2jz can keep going up to 300,000 or more miles with out an overhaul or rebuilt.

  • This guy should go back to school the sc300 doesn't have a v6 its a inline 6 cylinder. the riviera has to have a supercharger just to keep up with a stock 2jz-ge which is the n/a of the supra.

  • i like the Rivera's Exterior Styling just a little bit more than the 97 SC....however the interior of the Lexus, while smaller has a much better look to it.

for a Sporty Type car id prefer Rear Wheel Drive as Apposed to Front Wheel Drive of the Rivera....both cars are not bad but i think preformance on the Lexus would be higher....especially with the V8 Option.

  • @form109 ?? The 97 SC300 has an amazing exterior styling. Specially compared to a riviera...

  • @Slightlyevil the Rivera is also a Known Lemon......i like the Riveara's styling for being unique....the Lexus is much prettier....plus its a lexus....Definate Reliability.

  • @Slightlyevil the Rivera Certainly stands out,but the Lexus Wins in pretty much all area's....you dont see many and ive heard they were quite the Lemon.

  • either way the riviera is just an old grandpa car lol oh wow they threw a supercharger in it

  • riviera is FF layout, just like any GM car of the day.

SC is FR, and the difference in handling is abismal, just to mention that tiny detail.

Plus, the atmosferic inline 6 has more HP than the "supercharged" V6.

The lexus is more comparable to a 3 series, not with that POS.

And how many "rivieras" are in good running condition today, without overhauling the entire engine?

  • DID HE JUST SAID SC300 HAVE V6?

  • @steve088 Yes he did!!! WTF? HAHAHA Why is he even comparing these two cars??

  • its amazing the marketing that buick tried to pull over the eyes of the people back then. they obviously knew better than to compare the sc400 to the supercharged riviera considering that was both models "top" and equal match. either way the sc300 is undoubtedly the better car. i feel bad for the people that fell victim to such marketing and even worse for the people that still fall for it today.

  • Hmmm lets the the book value of these today. Way more SCs are still on the road today. Talk about biassed comments.

  • Hmmm lets the the book value of these today. Way more SCs are still on the road today.

  • only good thing to come from buick was the gnx

  • its funny how they chose the Sc300 istead of the SC400 because the SC4 would kill a rivera. The SC4 boast a V8 so seriously stfu cuz ur riverea is a pos and always has been.

  • @sexyboi142 your wrong.

  • shitty rice rocket company lol buick is a peace of shit no one likes buick only old people because its a cheaper luxury car. the sc300 is awsome they didnt mention the cruise conrol and climate control system and seat and steering wheel memory or the built in factory gps system developed in 1993 one of the first car to have itm nor did they mention factory 10inch subwoofer nor seat heater nor projector lights or 800hp capable stock internal engine all oldsmobile fags i can keep going on this..

  • Lexus is another shitty rice rocket company totally trying to copy Benz, just look at all the Lexus' 5 years ago...absolute shit cars that are soooo ugly and poorly made. Oh ya, how old is Lexus ? Just over 20 years old with a history for making shitty cars until the ISF, LFA and LS460 came out, each of which can be beaten easily by American Luxo cars

  • @UFCextra LOL Rice rocket? do you not know that the 2jz that a sc300 has under the hood can handle 800+ horsepower on the stock block with stock internals? i would love to see some one do that on a fully stock mustang, camaro, or Riviera (which is a total knock of car) blok

  • @UFCextra .LOL Rice rocket? do you not know that the 2jz that a sc300 has under the hood can handle 800+ horsepower on the stock block with stock internals? i would love to see some one do that on a fully stock mustang, camaro, or Riviera block. i definitely show my respect to American muscle but any car that has an engine that has a short block that strong deserves credit even if it is a toyota. And lexus is a totally reliable company, some people boost the 2jzge engine with 200,000 + mi

  • This guy is just stupid. Obviously trying to make you feel better about a much uglier car. The Lexus would smash that Buick, anyways.

  • fuck lexus its just a glorified camry with a difffernet badge buick is a true luxury car with heritage and buick comes with supercharged 3.8 V6 any1 who knows shit about cars knows these engines are bulletproof 1 of tha most reliable in the game

  • i ahve one and all i have to say that the back is fine unless the front driver is a super 7 feet long legged giant and im 5'10" and i can fit in the back with lots of leg room. it can extend the seat to the back but not needed.

  • do americans still say coup not coupé? silly fools...

  • like coupay is that who u pronounce it??

  • buick-4old people.

  • winning or not, I think the riviera is the best car.

  • Oh and for the Riviera fans, they had to review the base sc model vs the decked out riviera. =p

  • SC300 is NOT fast. At all.

  • "Even in the front seat, there's almost a closed in cramped type of feeling"

Is this guy serious? I am 1.89 m (6 ft 2 in) and I NEVER thought of the front seats of my SC400 as cramped. I can understand about the rear seats, but he is clearly biased opinion.

  • Yeah my sc400 is huge, and the back seats are fine, you only need ankle/lower leg room , you sit really reclined in the back seats and it is really comfortable, im mad that i never get to ride in my back seat lol, arm rests too. Im 6 ft btw, 160lbs, have had a friend who is 6'3 220ish lbs sit in the back seats

  • good thing I bought a sc300 lets see here homemade turbo kit pieced together off ebay and supra forums $1000-$1200, used V160 6-speed $2000-$3000, GS430 rear end $950

head gasket and necessary fuel system upgrades Roughly $750

and last but not least a nice clutch to hold the power $500-$950

making 650hp with ease on stock internals PRICLESS

  • you can make the same power with a rivi for the same price

  • dont even need the v160, go with an r154 and live with 5 gears and will cost you like 500 or so, im not really sure on their price but its not as jacked up as a v160

  • sc300 still better

  • You're full of yourself Brendonboy

  • IMO the buick just looks so plain and ugly and not stylish. the SC is luxurious and very clean looking and is just more attractive. thats why i got one :)

  • Well that's why we all have opinions. When I walk out of the job, the lexi don't even catch my eye. The Riviera is a pleasure to walk up on.

  • wat? lexus is nothing but glorified toyota fuck ur ricer with extra chrome cuz thats wat it is buddy lol

  • @devilledevil98 Well toyota does make them so yet, they are a glorified toyota......Genius.

  • Lexus is just an overpriced Toyota, real piece of shit.

  • Yeah... Toyota has a reputation for making shit cars. Good call.

  • The spokesman said the SC300 has a V6. No, moron, it's an inline 6. Funny how the 3.0 has 20 more horsepower than GM's 3.8.

  • funny how you only talk about horsepower and dont mention torque and didnt mention the supercharged engine that has 15 more hp and 70 ft lbs of torque more than the sc300

  • Gee wow... it takes GM a supercharger and .8 liters to gain 15 horse over Toyota's 3.0. Impressive. My SC300 is pushing well over 320 horsepower on the stock fuel system now that I added forced induction. The 97 SC400 (.2 liters larger than the Buick) makes 65 horses more than the NA 3.8. Why Didn't Buick compare it's Riviera to something with an engine closer to its own displacement? Hmmm GM is going bankrupt. Must be because their product is too good.

  • oh my god im so impressed that you are only pushing a little over 320 hp after dumping over $6000 worth of parts into your car. the ricer excuses begin. "well my smaller displacement engine almost kept up to your car"

  • What? No excuse as to why the Buick needs more displacement and forced induction to beat Toyota? Oh, and no dumbass, I spent $2000 and I'm capable of 550 horsepower, but it's useless on the street as anything over 10PSI causes my tires to spin at a 35 MPH roll. I see you weren't even smart enough to reply directly to me, but just posted another comment. Keep buying your GM crap. At least I won't have to deal with your stupid ass on the Lexus boards. Use condoms, don't pollute the gene pool.

  • Boy do you sound like the typical toyota owner. There's just something wrong with people who trash American cars. Good call.

  • Actually, I'm an educated consumer. I worked for Ford and I worked for Chrysler, and I even worked for Chevrolet. I used to buy nothing but American cars, but the quality just doesn't compare with the Toyota's and Nissan's I've had. I'm truly sad that the UAW has destroyed the American automotive industry, but my experience has taught me to avoid American cars.

  • :^P You may be an educated consumer, ifixipods, but I am an educated mech. engineer;^) I don't know what you did for these Yank companies, but this isn't as simple as reading the highly biased comsumer reports and generalizing all US car marques under one umbrella. Buick is the best GM brand, and far superior to a Nissan!? by any measure. Better than Toyota & Honda for reliability. Compared to the new Accord I just rented in PA, my 98 Riv is a vastly nicer car too.

    I am not surprised.

  • I worked in service, so I saw as much as I needed to see. You're right, they are not all crap. Everything Toyota makes is not the best. Every auto maker has their weak and strong points. I just see on average, the Japanese cars last longer. My 180,000 mile Lexus doesn't leak a drop of oil, doesn't rattle, and still has the original engine and transmission. 100% reliable. None of my American cars were able to make the same claim at that mileage. No doubt the Riv is a nicer ride than any Accord.

  • Interesting. Do you think that maybe working in service you saw a skewing of the data? You would see the worst of the vehicles. The better vehicles would not show up in your drive in.

Ignoring the cost/car advantage, that the Lexus is an unusually good Toyota. No expense is spared to reach for the highest reliability mark. Great advertising to steal a market! And our press crowed about that, yet the similar quality Buick was ignored. Initial quality=longevity. I buck the trend & buy US.

  • Funny how you only talk about the 3.8L with boost, every seen a 2JZ with boost? Haha not even a close comparison, not to mention that transmission in that buick is good for what 300hp or so? Thats what most boosted 2JZ's dyno at stock, the autobox in that SC can easily take 450-550hp with only a transmission cooler. To anyone who has driven both cars, watching this video is practically the same as somebody trying to convince me the world is flat.

  • I guess I should "trade up" my 5-spd SC3 for a nice FWD autobox Buick Riviera

  • Gee, you make it sound so charming. See other comment.

  • LOL, you GM fans do realize the Riviera was discontinued in Nov 1998, less than 2 years after this promo was made. The Lexus SC is still around today.

Go figure... I guess the planets weren't aligned

  • Why so happy? Is it that you are glad that the companies who showed the world how to give the average joe an affordable car are not in the least appreciated by you, the average joe.K

  • GM, Ford, and chrysler were arrogant back at their height in the early 1970s. they didn't give a shit what the consumers wanted; they told us what we wanted. not exactly a very good busy strategy, and that is why they failed. am i suppose to feel sorry for them?

  • Funny, I was there, and I didn't see all that arrogance you describe. Instead, I saw cafe laws, oil crisis, and emissions standards sprung on a car design that had to shrink in size rapidly to accommodate all those changes. The Jap cars already were small, underpowered butt pounders, so had little change to meet the cafe requirements.

No, I'm not saying feel sorry for them. I'm saying be reasonable. Let's try that first. Then we can look at a balanced perspective later.

    dude.

  • Fat fail for GM promo vid.

  • lol a buick vs a lexus...lexus all day everyday...go home buick...go home

  • just for ur info. the riv will beat that car 3800sc FTW

  • hell yeah, i have a 3.1 V6 malibu and i'm gonna bolt an M62 eaton onto it here in the next week, im looking forward to good numbers

  • that buick looks like an old man car. SC's are fukkin awesome. an SC300 would smoke that POS

  • To bad the Six cylinder engine isn't set up in a v format and in other words inline six, which can have the potential to produce massive torque. The SC300 is a better car, and lets not even get into the SC400 that would destroy the buick. There was only one great buick model The Grand National/GNX line. In my opinion that was the best.

  • who said there wasn't bias? it's a Buick commercial.

  • this "review" is so funny its almost lethal

  • The guy out in the field is wearing a Buick jacket during the whole segment.

Oh, but there must not have been any bias.

  • I've owned a '95 SC400 for 5 years now and the LAST thing the front seat is, is cramped! WTF? The car was pretty much universally heralded in the way it gave the driver comfort with perfect ergonimics and it's impressive sporty side. It's the car that came the closest to reaching Car and Driver's Perfect Score in a Road Test. All that said and I really do like the Riviera as well, the design is timeless and still looks fantastic today for those who took care of them.

  • I 2nd that.

My SC is a '93, looks brand new, and still gets looks all the time, 'cus it still looks like a 200*.

As far as roominess.. My regular rear seat passengers are tall people, and they all had complimented me on the spaciousness of the rear, when I got the car (I had a Lancer before)

especialy cus the front seats are grooved in the back, to add space at the legs.

Atop that.. No Buick BS engine is gonna top the all mighty 2JZ.

    Fuck this video.

  • Are you trying to say there is a better engine than the 3.8? And it's the Toyota 2JZ? You should learn to punctuate your sentences so they can be read correctly. There should be a comma between is and the, duh.

  • You retards have obviously never driven a buick before. The 3.8L superchared in unbeatable. There is no engine better than the GM 3.8>

  • um yea there is the toyota 2JZ

  • what about the northstar 4.0liter thats a great one also

  • i agree i had a Granprix gtp 3.8SC it was bullet proof i loved that car the guy i sold the car to totaled it in 1 week :(

  • ooookkkk........these idiots!!! How can they compare a family car to a sporty car about their space capacity. SC300 will own Riviera on looks and performances. Where's the SC400?

  • This program was made by by biast people,i cant believe they even compared these two cars.I have a 92 sc300 and it still runs like new with 240xxx miles, all revieras are in the junk yard by now.

  • isn't that guy wearing a buick jacket?

  • rivieras even look fast for a luxurary

sure maybe resale today isnt the close to the lexus but that 3800 engine series I or II is so reliable and sturdy.

and for as big as they are they handle so well and accelerate real nice w/ a supercharger

  • I hardly see riveras these dayzzz and I still see sc300 on streets.

  • What planet you on? Every 95-99 Riv in this area is still kickin. Now I'm not knockin on the sc300, it def handles better than my 95 Riv, and is more suited to aggressive days at the autocross, with style. I just can't help but prefer the straightline pull of my series 1 3800sc (and its incredible track record of reliability. I love buick engines, hard to hurt). To each his own, but you gotta have respect for a nearly 4000 pound boat that growls AND bites, with a ride to die for.

  • So you prefer a front wheel drive machine then? Just asking. I really do like the Riviera but am a SC400 owner. Both actually have bulletproof engines that very rarely have issues at all up into the 200 thousand mile range. I've put 70k on my car and have only had to 'fix' a power steering leak. Both are classy cars, I just don't see many Rivi's that have been taken care of properly around where I'm at unfortunately. Shame, as well cared for examples are fuckin sexy!

  • mine wasn't well cared for, lol. with my riv, I'm kinda glad its a front drive, it goes better in the snow (I'm smack in the snowbelt of ohio). I prefer a rear drive platform for mechanical reasons, but for everyday drving purposes (in a wintery commute) it is, for me, a lil more desirable. but yeah, I have yet to see a toyota engine bite the dust too.

  • Lots of one sided people on here... Ive owned supra's and an L67 powered Regal(3800 supercharged)and they are both well made, Buick is up at the top with lexus for overall quality.. GO LOOK IT UP! and the 3800 v6 has won multiple awards for its quality.. its just as reliable as the 2jz-ge even though its a V6 and not inline..

  • I'd say "Let the market decide" what is the best. Check out the resale values for either car on today's market:

  • idiot!!!

a '65 Riviera GS 425 2 x 4bbl engine switch-pitch transmission can decimate a stupid lexus. I have a LS400, and ALL my Rivieras are faster than his car!!!

  • Why would you compare the riv to a car that has a base price 15k higher? they chose the sc300 because it was the closest in its price range. besides most rivs came with a supercharger , whereas most scs have a v6.
