Enemy Mine was really classic SCI-FI/Drama from old good 80s - unique visual effects, great acting, emotional atmosphere. Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. were impressive.

One of my fav's! Strange how things have new meanings to them later in life. The film seems to be a metaphor- that we also have enemies because we are taught to have them, but if we unveil the illusion of conflict we aren't that much different from one another, mostly just ignorant, worse- easily led.

christ, i hated this movie. not because it was especially bad, but because my older brothers took to calling me "zammis" or whatever the alien baby's name was, after we saw this. they found it so hilarious, they kept calling me that for the next three to four years.

ultimately, the idea of lou gossett jr. giving birth to an alien baby proved to be even more traumatic.

I loved this film when I was a kid growing up in brazil, as many others here. That means the message of this film goes beyond borders and language and culture, and could teach a lesson to the nowadays humanity! If an alien and man can get along, why the human beings themselves cannot??

The spanish version of this movie is called "ENEMIGO MIO" which translates to "MY ENEMY" in english

The movie is based on a short novel published in Issac Asimov's Sience Fiction Magazine in 1979. By Barry Longyear, it should read 'Enemy, Mine' changing it to a possessive reference. He couldn't publish under 'My Enemy' since the mag already had a story with that title earlier that year. He has since written two sequels 'The Last Enemy' and 'The Tomorrow Testament' As well as several short stories in the same universe collected in 'Manifest Destiny'. Won a hugo award for 'Enemy Mine', too
